How to serve in Tennis

1. Bounce the ball on the ground (op4onal, but most

pros do it) and then rest the ball on your racquet.

2. Throw the ball up in the air (try to get it perfectly

above you because it makes it easier to hit).

3. Bend back to get maximum thrust when hi:ng.

4. Start jumping up to reach the ball while beginning

to bring your arm over your shoulder.

5. Jump up to meet the ball and hit it (make sure you

hit it hard enough to get it over the net though!).

6. A>er hi:ng the ball you must con4nue with the

follow through. Swing the racket all the way down to

your side.

7. Swivel around onto your side and get ready for

the return (if you haven’t aced them!).

CHRIS

JUDD

Chris Judd has con&nued to amaze us this year with his breathtaking

skills. We at Sports Mania talk to him about the grand final, his favour-

ite players and his Brownlow chances.

Sports Mania: So Chris, are you happy with Carlton’s progress this year?

Chris Judd: Yeah, I’m really happy with how far the team has come over the past few seasons,

with all of the younger guys maturing and becoming beEer players. I think we can go all the way

this year and not just be there to fill up the numbers.

S M: If Carlton doesn’t get there, who do you think will be in the grand final?

C J: At the moment it’s preEy hard to go past Geelong and Collingwood, but West Coast and Haw-

thorn have been in some preEy good form as well.

S M: What are your plans for the future?

C J: Well I’d obviously love to win another grand final, but I’ve won all of the other awards so I

don’t really mind if I win them or not, but another Brownlow would be good.

S M: Do you think you can win the Brownlow again this year?

C J: I don’t know, I probably could but I think Marc Murphy and a few other guys have stolen a

few too many votes off me this year (laughs).

S M: What are you planning to do a>er your career finishes?

C J: I haven’t actually thought about much. I would just play footy forever if I could, you just can’t

describe the adrenaline rush of when you’re running around with your mates.

S M: Who are the best players that you have seen?

C J: I thought Robert Harvey was a great player, I didn’t barrack for the saints, but I adored him as

a liEle kid and to play against him was a great honour. I also loved the big power forwards like

Plugger, Dunstall and AbleE Sr.

S M: What about the current players?

C J: AbleE Jr and Swan are standouts, but there’s also Hayes, Goddard, Pendlebury, Hodge and

heaps more.

S M: Thanks for your 4me Chris and good luck to you and for Carlton for the rest of the year.

C J: Thanks guys I really enjoyed my 4me here.

TOP 10 AFL PLAYERS OF THE YEAR

10: Adam Goodes. He has proved this year that he is one of Sydney’s greatest play-

ers. His record speaks for itself, 2 Brownlow’s, a Premiership player, 3 4me All-

Australian, Indigenous team of the century and the list goes on, but this year Goodes

has really made an impact. He has been unbelievably consistent, ge:ng 21 disposals

a game and kicking 36 goals, and he is one of the main reasons that Sydney have

made the finals again this year.

9: MaEhew Boyd. He may not be an awards junkie like Goodes, but the way Boyd

plays really helps the Bulldogs. This year he has collected the most possessions in the

league, bea4ng ball magnets Gary AbleE, Chris Judd and Dane Swan. He has guided

the Bulldogs this year, even though they didn’t get to the finals.
