Principal’s Words
As you know, the window for school choice opens on January 25. As District 5 parents, you have a
choice of schools for your children to attend and we appreciate your choosing Irmo High School! If you are
not zoned for Irmo High, you should have received a letter for you to confirm your intent to keep your child
at Irmo High. If you did not receive this letter, or did not return it, don't panic! It is for our own planning, but
is not required for your son or daughter to remain at IHS. Because we are a district magnet school,
students do not have to reapply from year to year to remain enrolled.
Even though you have chosen Irmo High School International School for the Arts, we hope you were still
able to attend our Arts Magnet Fair that took place on January 13. We had a number of fun and interactive
events for students to experience our arts and IB programs. If you were not able to attend, we encourage
you to continue to explore the many outstanding options that are unique to Irmo High, such as courses in
piano, guitar, world dance, world percussion, and many others, not to mention the exciting opportunities
presented by our International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme, which provides world class preparation
for university study. We are excited about the growth of all of our arts and IB programs, with increased
enrollment and high levels of student engagement and participation!
Even if you missed our Arts Magnet Fair, there remain many other ways for you to learn about our
programs. The first is to attend our next "Bring Your Parent to School" Day on January 29. Parents can
register for this event by calling the main office or by clicking on the link on the Irmo High home
page. While visiting your child's classes that day, be sure to also ask about the programs you are
interested in so that we can answer any questions you may have. Also you can attend any of our exciting
performances in the Center For the Arts. These shows highlight the exciting work that our students do in
their Fine and Performing Arts classes here at IHS. We recently packed the house for Shrek the Musical
and received rave reviews from all who attended! We will also be hosting information nights later in the
spring for parents to learn more about course offerings and programs at our school. We strive to make
these events fun and informational, reflecting our uniqueness as an arts-themed school. Finally, we are
always happy to schedule a visit or tour of our school to help you make the most of your child's experience
at Irmo.
Thank you again for making Irmo your home and for entrusting us with your child's education!
