We are planning further development to our premises and you can read more aboutthis exciting project on page 4/5. As a small charity we rely on support from individualsso I would ask you to consider donating to our 20Jackdaws campaign. Just £20 for our20th birthday will make all the difference and enable us to carry out our important workfor another 20 years in premises fit for their purpose. We will take a donation in anyform but we do also have a Just Giving page which makes it very easy to add gift aid ifyou are eligible; www.justgiving.com/jackdaws

2013 saw Jackdaws deliver three important new projects with our local schools; TheYear of the String Quartet, Song Story and Nature & Nurture, as well as our annualprogramme of OperaPLUS, Jack’s Music Club, the Summer Production and Gifted &Talented sessions. Year on year we work with more young people than before (Springterm 2013 we worked with 3,000 children, not to mention the many more we helpedindirectly through CPD we provided for teachers, TAs and LSAs!) This is something setto continue as we announce that we are proud to have become a lead partner in the newmusic hub for Somerset - Sound Foundation Somerset

This year’s brochure has the usual glorious mix of styles and topics to choose from, andthere seems to be a bit of theme! There is a foray into the world of the ukulele with oneof our regulars, Michael Fields, which will bring some sunshine to February! We are alsodelighted to be welcoming back all of your favourite tutors including some who havebeen away for too long like Michael Pollock, also in February. And there will be severalnew faces, such as the inspirational singing teacher Michael Harper in November.Whether you are a fan of the name Michael or not there is something for everyone soplease come, take part and join us in celebrating our 20th birthday.

below: Plans for the new teaching studio.

The 20th AnniversaryDevelopmentWe are in the fortunate position to havereceived a legacy which has enabled us tobegin the development of our site to improvethe facilities we have available. We havebeen working with local architectsBatterham Matthews and have alreadycompleted Phase One to enlarge the diningroom, refurbish the kitchen and providemore toilets. We are now looking towardsPhase Two in which we plan to build, directlyadjacent to the existing building, a wonderful new teaching space. This will be singlestorey, monopitched and sympatheticallybuilt to reflect our beautiful surroundings, whilst being functional, fit for purpose andacoustically suitable on the inside. We arebringing the outside in; the far wall will opento extend the space onto our rose garden, fully capitalising on our unique naturalenvironment. It will also be equipped withrecording facilities and house a new office, entrance and toilets. The whole project is designed to strike a

balance to ensure that the facilitiesJackdaws has at its disposal to support anddevelop its work are suitable, accessible, professional and practical, whilst retainingthe homely, nurturing atmosphere that is an essential part of our organisation. It willtotally transform the way we are able todeliver projects and widen the opportunitiesfor participation, making us moresustainable as an organisation.

20JackdawsA clattering of Jackdaws! Sponsor your own Jackdaw in the new studioThe 2nd phase of development will cost£200,000 and Jackdaws is in the fortunateposition of already having raised threequarters of this sum. In order to raise theremaining funds we are asking oursupporters to support the 20Jackdawscampaign and purchase a Jackdaw for £20to celebrate our 20th birthday, (or £200,£2,000 or £20,000 - we would be verygrateful for all support). Each supporter willhave their Jackdaw displayed in apermanent installation in the new spacedesigned by a local artist. If we can achievea clattering of 2,000 + Jackdaws it will helpconsiderably towards the additional fundswe require to continue our important workfor another 20 years. Larger donations willbe recognised with larger Jackdaws! If you would like to be part of our new

development by sponsoring a Jackdaw, simply tick the box on your order form andadd the donation to your deposit whenbooking your course or go to our Just Giving(http://www.justgiving.com/jackdaws) site.Remember if you tick the Gift Aid box yourdonation is worth £25 as we are able toreclaim tax on the donation. If you are ahigher rate tax payer you can also claimrefund of higher rate tax.

Joy’s workcovers all musical possibilities andvariations, so that when the singer performsthere is nothing which has not beenexplored. Singers will use their imaginationand musicality confidently to singexpressively with beauty and freedom and, above all, to listen. Prepare two pieces fromany area of the classical repertoire.
