page where she continues to regale us with her amusing exploits and adventures.The Divine Miss ‘M’, with her big-as-saucers eyes, perpetual ‘smile’ and captivating personality continues to enthrall the hearts of the world. Marmalady’s Facebook page now has 2,200+ friends from all around the globe. Every day people post photos of their cat(s) and share their amazing stories of feline rescue. You can order Marmalday themed merchandise at www.zazzle.comAs a special treat for our Marmalady fans; a personal note from the Divine Miss ‘M’ herself;

Hi there! Marmalady the tri-pawed kitten here. My friend Jackie asked me to write something for the newsletter, so I decided to reflect on Christmas.This is my first Christmas and Mom talks a lot about the presents we’ll be getting. I know I’ll get some cool new toys on Christmas morning, but I believe I received my best Christmas present earlier this year. This gift was my life and all the other good things I have are a direct result of this gift.So, this Christmas is one of gratitude for me. I am grateful to those who intervened, viewed my life as valuable, and nursed me back to health. I am grateful for my forever Mom who loves me with all her heart. I have furry siblings to play with and I will never want for anything ever again. I have a wonderful life but I know many others still wait for homes or help.I have a wish this Christmas. I wish for more people to help animals in distress. This help can take many forms such as financial support, adopting, fostering, or helping a local rescue agency. I plead with you to get involved in whatever way you can.One way you can help is to buy my new book! It is called “Marmalady, The Tri-Pawed Kitten” All the proceeds from the book will go to the Cat House on the Kings. You can order it at www.blurb.com or from iTunes. Merry Christmas Everyone!Love, Marmalady

Waiting for Santa...

An Angel in Our CornerThe Cat House on the Kings was blown away when we received a $3,000 riding lawn mower. The main-tenance crew was ecstatic! But we did not know who sent the magnanimous donation. We were finally able to put a name to our generous benefactor, and his name is Charles Paddock from Southern Cali-fornia. Charles caught our show, The Lady with 700 Cats, on NatGeoWild and was “overwhelmed” by what he saw. Like Lynea, Chuck was not allowed to have a cat as a child. Chuck currently has two senior ladies named Jasmine and Jade, both 18 years old. Chuck has donated over $11,000 this year in items from our Amazon Wish List and has promised ad-ditional donations in 2013. “I truly feel the most comfortable with The Cathouse on the Kings for my giving. I feel the funds are put to best use by truly caring people” Chuck wrote in an email to Lynea.We feel extremely blessed and fortunate to have an angel like Charles Paddock in our corner. We thank you Charles, there are simply not adequate words to express how grateful we are for your staggering generosity. We look forward to meeting you in the near future!

Cats and Dogs Go Airborne!On a warm September morning, Bonny Schumaker, of On Wings of Care, landed her airplane at the Reedley, California airport. Waiting for her arrival was a van from the Cat House on the Kings with a cargo of 50 cats and 7 dogs. These animals were bound for rescue groups in Oregon and Idaho where cats and small dogs are in high demand, but in short supply. In return, the Cat House accepted 5 cats deemed un-adoptable due to age or illness. The Cat House paid for the fuel and On Wings of Care picked up the remaining expenses. Our fuel costs were hugely offset by a $1,000 donation from one of our staunchest supporters, Leni Mortensen. Thanks to all for making this exchange possible. It was a good trade for the Cat House on the Kings.

Do You Have A Cat From Hell?Animal Planet’s “My Cat From Hell” is accepting applications for their show. If you have a cat whose behavior has you at your wit’s end, you should consider applying to be on the show. For complete details on how to apply for “My Cat From Hell” go to www.animalplanet.com/mycatfromhell

Puppy 4065 aka CookieIn the fall of 2001, the Erwin’s lost their beloved dog Molly to cancer and old age. Their 3-year old Boston Fox mix, Ginger, was mourning the loss of her lifelong companion. They began searching for a new friend for Ginger, knowing right off the bat that they would be adopting a rescue dog. While viewing animals on the Cat House website they came across puppy #4065 and instantly, they fell in love. They drove out to the Cat House on the Kings to see the dog in person. Once they met the sweet girl, there was no way they were leaving without her. Cookie and Ginger became great friends and are now inseparable. Cookie really likes cats and the Erwin’s attribute that to her spending her early life surrounded by kittens. Catherine Erwin said; “We are thankful to Cat House on the Kings and that they were able to rescue Cookie so that she could be a permanent part of our family!”

I Want 500 Cats for Christmas!Our children’s book “500 cats” would make an excellent stock-ing stuffer for your child or the cat lover in your life.. 20th Anniversary Open House-Purrfect in Every Way

Mother Nature truly blessed the Cat House on the King’s 20th An-niversary Open House and Fall Fundraiser with absolutely perfect weather. It was sunny and warm, but not too warm. Despite the fact that there seemed to be events going on everywhere in the valley, the turnout was truly wonderful! We must give a huge shout out, plus perhaps a standing ovation, to Lynea’s second in command, Tammy Bark-er. Tammy puts her life on hold for at least two months in order to expertly plan, coordinate and execute our fundraising events. Tammy and her crew go that extra mile to make certain every-thing runs smoothly and that our fundraisers are successful. Tammy relied on two of her great-est helpers, Harvie Schreiber and Eileen Romero to assist in the many aspects of planning our open house. Sisters Karen Rae and Christine Bagley were in charge of the silent auction. They begin collecting auction items months in advance. They procured white

cloth linens for the ta-bles. Their superb style and expertise in setting up the many items re-ally created a classy showroom feel for the auction.

There were many unique and desirable items on the silent auc-tion tables. The bidding started out a bit slow but

by the time the auction was about to close, the bidding became pretty competitive. Bidders scrambled to get in last minute bids as the clock ticked down.

Sandra Goodsoozian was the lucky winner of the handmade quilt donated by Phyliss Estee. Artist April Murphy came all the way from Texas to sell her colorful cat prints and for every print that was sold; April donated one to the Cat House. The 12 donated prints will be up for auction at our Spring F u n d r a i s e r. In the end a good chunk of change was raised to help keep the Cat House up and running. We thank everyone who helped make this fundraiser a tremendous success by volunteering, donating and/or patronizing our 20th Anniversary Open House.

We Are The Petco Foundations Grand Prize Winner!The Cat House on the Kings wishes to thank everyone from the deepest recesses of our hearts for taking the time and effort to vote for us in the Petco Foundations Facebook Challenge. It was a close race but our awesomely loyal fans and supporters always come through for us. The Cat House on the Kings was the winner of……..drum roll please………..$10,000! After being chosen as one of Petco Foundations “100 Celebra-tions” charitable partners, we received a check for $1,000 and automatic entry into the contest for the $10,000 grand prize. Petco already has the sign up at the Petco store on Blackstone, near Ashlan. Until then, the Cat House on the Kings will continue to hold adoptions on Fridays (4-7), Saturdays (10-3) and Sundays (1-5). Santa is Coming!

A Dedicated VolunteerIn mid-July, Burt Penner took advantage of our low-cost spay service to get his cat fixed. He was astounded by what he saw here, and he fell in love with the Cat House on the Kings. Every day since his cat’s surgery, Burt has come out to volunteer. He has yet to miss a single day. He loves to just sit and pet the kitties. Burt thinks we are doing wonderful things here at the Cat House. He encourages other cat-loving retirees to join him so that they too can “enjoy the Cat House and all the love the kitties have to offer.”

Tucker Crosses the Rainbow BridgeThe Cat House’s oldest original resident passed away peacefully in late September at the age of 19. He was surrendered as an 8-week old kitten in 1993 after being found behind the bathroom wall of a home under construction. Workers had to knock out a wall and remove the tub to rescue the tiny kitten. His rescuer, Joan Tucker, faithfully sent a check each month to support Tucker. Although he never found his furever home, Tucker lived a happy life at the Cat House. Rest in peace Tucker, we will miss you!

Donation in Lieu of Wedding FavorsDoug and Courtney of Fresno adopted two kittens-Simon and Moo, from the Cat House on the Kings in January 2012. When they got married the following September, Doug and Courtney Marmolejo decided that in lieu of wedding favors, they would make a donation to the Cat House on the Kings. They donated $1 for every guest at their wedding and gave the Cat House on the Kings a plug on their reception cards. Thank you so much, Doug and Courtney, for your thoughtfulness and generosity. We wish you a lifetime of wedded bliss!

Kaylie-Our Little AngelAround this time last year, the Cat House on the Kings was graced with a visit from the sweetest little girl. Kaylie Bergen, now 8-years old, has a rare form of brain stem cancer. Cuddling with kitties had been extremely therapeutic for Kay-lie during her chemo treatments. After seeing “Must Love Cats” and “The Lady with 700 Cats” on television, Kaylie wanted to come and visit the Cat House on the Kings. Kaylie’s mother, Christy, drove Kaylie all the way from their home in Seattle. They spent the night in our guest room and Kaylie spent hours petting and loving the kitties.It is with a heavy heart that we inform you that Kaylie’s condition continues to worsen and she is losing her valiant fight with this terrible disease. We ask that you please keep Kaylie and her family in your hearts and prayers as they endure this unspeakably sad time. The Cat House on the Kings is going to remember this purest of souls by erecting a granite bench in her honor. We will place the bench under the eucalyptus trees where Kaylie sat as the cats surrounded her with their overwhelming display of love and affection. The bench will bear Kaylie’s photo so that she may always watch over the kitties she loved and so that we never forget that Kaylie, our sweet guardian angel, will forever watch over us here at the Cat House on the Kings.If anyone would like to contribute to this purchase, (approx.cost is $1,500) you can mail in a donation or use PayPal. Put “Kaylie’s Bench” in the memo line so that we can apply your donation to this purchase.
