Jacinto Zamora Biography Jacinto Zamora was one of the three martyr priests of the Secularization of the Filipino priests, the Gomburza. Zamora was born in Pandacan, Manila on the 14th of August, 1835. Don Venancio Zamora and Dona Hilaria del-Rosario were his parents. He had his early education there and later transferred to Real Colegio de San Juan de Letran then transferred again to the University of Santo Tomas after finishing his Bachiller en Artes. He graduated on the 16th of March, 1858 with the degree of Bachelor of Canon and Civil laws. After being ordained, he handled parishes in Marikina, Pasig, and Batangas. He also handled the Manila Cathedral on the 3rd of December, 1864. Then, together with Fray Gomez and Burgos, continued the mission that Padre Pedro Pelaez left... the Secularization of Filipino priests. Their (Secular priests) reason is racial discrimination but the regular priests' (the Spanish priests that has joined a religious order such as the Franciscans or the Dominicans) reasons are; first, there are few secular priests and, second, the secular priests do not know all the things a priest must do. He had a habit of playing cards after saying mass. No one knew this habit was going to be one of the reason why they were executed. Once he had an invitation that says his friend has "Powder and Munitions" but this invitation fell to the hands of the Spaniards and, what is worse, it was the night of the Cavite Revolt led by a Filipino soldier, Sgt. Lamadrid. In a gambler's language, Powder and munitions meant they had much money to gamble. This invitation is one of the reasons why the Spaniards blamed the three priests. The court play accused the three Filipino priests of starting the revolt even though the evidences were few. The witness was bribed and the lawyer of the priests did not defend them. They were sure to lose this case. They were sentenced to death by Garrote. "He was insane!" wrote a witness. He became insane because of death threats given so he didn't complain nor say anything before nor during his execution.
