THE JABIRU NEWSLETTER OCTOBER 2015
Captain’s Report
Frank Spurway - Captain
October sees our Men’s Club Championship qualifying rounds in A,B and C grades commencing on Saturday 10 October with the MatchPlay final on Sunday 1 November. This is held concurrently with theStroke Play Championship in A, B and C grades. For those of youaspiring to have your name on the Honour Board, may I suggest youmake a note in your diary accordingly.
Lake BattersThe Club has commissioned SESL Environment and Soil Sciences toconduct a Bank Stability Assessment on the 17 lakes on both ThePines and The Palms. This report has been tabled and is nowavailable for viewing on our website. Remedying the erosion to thelake batters is a long-term project and our Golf CourseSuperintendent, Paul McLean, who is prioritizing the required workand will be scheduling this over the next few years. Interestingly,TITLE of SESL Environment and Soil Sciences NAME noted, “thefield assessment also observed no evidence of fish or other aquaticfauna impacting the stability of the banks,” confirming that theprimary causes of the bank erosion are soil and water conditions.
EasterWe are starting to put together our program for the next EasterTournament, to be held from 25 to 28 March 2016. The Walker Cupwill be played on Friday 25 March and the Jabiru Cup on Sunday andMonday, 27 and 28 March. Traditionally, this has been the biggestClub event of the year, also offering the opportunity to showcase ourClub to friends and guests. We are planning a great weekend, sopencil it in for next year and make note of who you would like toinvite to join the party.
SaturdaysOur Saturday tee bookings are under some pressure and we areclosely monitoring the situation. Within moments of the tee sheetopening it becomes fully booked with all tee times reserved.
Inevitably, during the fortnight leading up to play, all players on thewaitlist are accommodated without exception and fortunately get agame on Saturdays. However, some Members are taking the libertyof booking in playing partners who are away and are not available toplay on the date booked. This practice is not fair to our Membershipand should cease immediately. Please confirm your playing partners’availability prior to booking your tee times.
The Match Committee is also implementing a shotgun start on oneSaturday per month commencing in October, with starting times of8.00am and 12.30pm.
PennantOur Seniors (over 50s) and Super Seniors (over 60s) are currentlycontesting their respective Pennant competitions. The Seniors havean impressive 100% record and the Super Seniors a competitive 50%record while constantly improving.
Good luck to all of you competing in the upcoming Men’s andLadies’ Club Championships.
Best Regards
Frank Spurway
Captain

9-1 The number of strokes a player has taken includes any penaltystrokes.
9-2b A competitor who has incurred a penalty should inform hismarker “as soon as practicable”.
This phrase is purposely broad so as to allow for consideration of thecircumstances in each situation, especially the proximity of the playerto his opponent. Thus, informing the opponent as soon as practicableof a penalty incurred does not, in all circumstances mean that theplayer must do so before the opponent plays his next stroke.
9-2- Match Play
a. Information as to Strokes Taken.
An opponent is entitled to ascertain from the player, during the playof a hole, the number of strokes he has taken and, after play of a hole, the number of strokes taken on the hole just completed.
b. Wrong Information.
A player must not give wrong information to his opponent. If a playergives wrong information, he loses the hole.
A player is deemed to have given wrong information if he:
(i) fails to inform his opponent as soon as practicable that he has incurred a penalty.
(ii) gives incorrect information during play of a hole regarding the number of strokes taken and does not correct the mistake before his opponent makes his next stroke.
(iii) gives incorrect information regarding the number of strokes taken to complete a hole and this affects the opponent’s understanding of the result of the hole, unless he corrects the mistake before any player makes a stroke from the teeing ground or, in the case of the last hole of the match, before all players leave the putting green.
A player has given wrong information even if it is due to failure toinclude a penalty that he did not know he had incurred. It is theplayer’s responsibility to know the rules.
