Acoustic Performance

IWS-FAST® Board was tested at UKAS accredited test laboratory BPAC for acoustic performance in relation to separating walls.

The tests were carried out by acoustic experts from Edinburgh Napier Uninversity.

The IWS-FAST® Board Single Leaf separating wall (as shown above with 15mm plasterboard on either side) achieved Building Regulations 56dB RW

Vapour Resitivity

IWS-FAST® Board was tested at the Centre for Research on Indoor Climate & Health, School of Engineering and the Built Environment, Glasgow Caledonian University. Tests were carried out according to BS EN ISO 12572:2001 Hygrothermal performance of building materials and products — Determination of water vapour transmission properties.

The results indicate that the IWS-FAST® Board has a lower vapour resistance than OSB.

IWS-FAST® Board = 87 MNs/gm OSB (typical) = 150 MNs/gm

The lower the vapour resistance the more vapour can pass through the material for any given set of conditions.

Customer Information Details1. Identification of Product and Supplier:

Product Name: IWS-FAST® BoardSupplier: Intelligent Wood Systems c/o Glenalmond Timber, Shore Rd, Harbour, Perth, PH2 8BD, 01592 630774

IWS-FAST® Board is a Magnesium Oxychloride board with silicate developed specifically to be used as a robust sheathing board in timber frame construction.

Applications:External sheathing board for open panel timber frame• External sheathing board for closed panel timber frame• Sheathing board for SIPS panels• Separating wall configurations• Fire board in party walls• Fire board in spandrel panels•

2. Composition

IWS-FAST® Board consists of magnesium plate: active high-purity magnesium oxide (MgO), high-quality magnesium chloride (MgCl2), alkali-resistant glass fibre fabric, silicate, timber fibres and perlite filler.

3. Manufacturing process

IWS-FAST® Board is manufactured through a low-energy process, forming through chemical reactions. Ensuring that IWS-FAST® Board has a low environmental impact.

ISO 9001 approved factory, ensures a consistent high quality is maintained with IWS staff resident for quality checking.

4. Hazards identification

IWS-FAST® Board is classified as non-hazardous. It contains no radioactive substances, asbestos or formaldehyde.

5. Disposal

IWS-FAST® Board is general waste. It does not fall under plasterboard regulations. It can be crushed and re-used as sand blinding where a pH of between 8 and 10 is acceptable.

6. Handling and Storage

a) IWS-FAST® Board must be stored flat on pallets (to ensure raised from the ground), under cover. They should not be leant upright for extended periods of time.b) IWS-FAST® Boards must always be lifted by 2 people. c) IWS-FAST® Boards must not be dragged across each other as this could cause unnecessary scratching or damage.d) Any moisture allowed to infiltrate between the sheets may cause permanent surface staining. Although this will not affect the physical properties of the IWS-FAST® Boards. To stop staining they should be protected from the weather at all times.e) When cutting always use dust extraction and wear face masks. IWS recommend that IWS-FAST® Boards are cut using a utility knife, such as a Stanley knife.
