IUCN REGIONAL NATURE CONSERVATION FORUM 2015 - PACO 2015 OPENING CEREMONY OF THE PACO 2015 - FORUM: VALORIZATION OF

MALIAN CULTUREAt the opening of the 2015 IUCN REGIONAL conference, the host country took the initiative not only to entertain, but also to show case their culture in music. A group of 6 musicians entertained the distinguished guests and participants with Malian traditional songs and dances in the local language.

Each choir member took a turns to display a unique style, songs sensitizing and denouncing the current public health and environmental issues.

IUCN REGIONAL NATURE CONSERVATION FORUM 2015 - PACO 2015 : WELCOME SPEECH BY THE PRESIDENT OF IUCN NATIONAL COMMITTEE OF

MALI

In his welcome speech, the President of IUCN national Committee of Mali expressed gratitude to the Malian president and Malian government for accepting to be a co-organizer and a host of forum. Moriba Nomoko also recognized the precious contribution of the First lady of Mali who tremendously contributed to the organization of the 2015 Regional forum on Nature conservation.

He also thanked all other stakeholders for their support, especially, the CREMACO, the president of IUCN, IUCN members and partners and environmental organization for their valuable contribution.

IUCN REGIONAL NATURE CONSERVATION FORUM 2015 - PACO 2015 REMARKS BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE COMMITTEE OF IUCN MEMBERS IN

WEST AND CENTRAL AFRICA (CREMACO)Mr. Isaac Moussa, the President of the Committee of IUCN Members in West and Central Africa (CREMACO) emphasized on unity during his remarks. Indeed, he underlined the fact that PACO members most seize the opportunity of the congress to unite and prepare a high and effective participation in the international conference, look for partners and ensure visibility.

For the president of CREMACO, members should elaboration a plan of action for CREMACO, and the one program approach should be a reality and not a dream.

IUCN REGIONAL NATURE CONSERVATION FORUM 2015 - PACO 2015 REMARKS BY IUCN DIRECTOR, INGER ANDERSON

INGER ANDERSON, the Director of IUCN started her remark by expressing gratitude to Malian authorities, particularly the First lady, for their support and warm welcome on the occasion of the the 2015 Regional forum on Nature conservation. Her speech was also focused on providing key information on IUCN and thus declared that the organization has 107 members and over 1000 employees in the world. She also underlined the fact that the region (central and west Africa) is endowed with biological and cultural resources but faces great challenges with regards to climate change.  According to the Director of IUCN, this PACO Regional conference held for the first in Mali, is very strategic because this year marks the adoption of post 2015 agenda. She introduced the World congress, and presented its theme and objectives and made recommendations for PACO to be actively involved and propose good projects to partners so as to ensure a successful and fruitful participation of PACO in the 2016 World Congress in Hawai.

IUCN REGIONAL NATURE CONSERVATION FORUM 2015 - PACO 2015 REMARKS BY IUCN PRESIDENT, ZHANG XINGSHENG

At the opening of his remarks during the 2015 Regional forum on Nature conservation, the President of IUCN, ZHANG XINGSHENG, marked the audience by greeting in three languages, English, French and, surprisingly, in Bambara, the traditional local language.  He gave a brief history of Mali by talking about SUNDIATA KEITA founder of Mali ancient empire, civilization of human area, emphasizing on the hospitality of Mali «leave your home and feel at home in Mali». For him, this forum is timing as it coincides with the newly adopted sustainable development agenda for the next fifteen years. The president underlines the challenges and changes faced by the world and declared that it is important to ADAPT TO THIS CHANGES and that IUCN is the key stakeholder in bringing all these together.

SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT, REPRESENTATIVE OF THE GOVERNMENT OF MALI

The Representative of the government of Mali, the Minister of Environment, Sanitation and Sustainable Development, opened his allocution by welcoming all the participants on behalf of the Government of Mali.

He emphasized the importance of developing sustainable development policies and practices and sustainable measures in order to fight climate change, poverty. He talked about the environmental conventions backed by its government and the engagement of the Government of Mali to protect the environment and contribute to the attainment of sustainable development goals.

FORUMThe Guest of honor of the 2015 Regional forum on Nature conservation, the First Lady of Mali and promoter of the NGO AGIR, opened her remarks by expressing how delighted she was to participate in the forum, Mali is facing high challenges with regards to climate change particularly environmental degradation and deforestation.

She thanked the Director of IUCN for choosing Mali as a co-organiser of the forum and declares open the event.
