THE OPENINg TIP: The Indiana mens basketball team earned a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournamor the third time in program history and advanced to the East Regional seminals ater beating No. 9 Tem58-52, and No. 16 James Madison, 83-62, in Dayton. IU advances to the Sweet Sixteen in consecutive seasor the rst time since 1994. The Hoosiers will take on No. 4 Syracuse with the winner acing No. 2 Miami or 3 Marquette on Saturday.
SYRACUSE: The Hoosiers (37 NCAA Appearances) and Orange (36 NCAA Appearances) will squareor the rst time in the NCAA Tournament since IU won the 1987 championship, 74-73, in New Orleans on KSmarts last second shot. Syracuse holds a 3-1 edge in the series, winning in 1998 in New York, and 1990 a1998 in Maui.
AgAINST THE BIg EAST: IU has won its last two contests against Big East oes. They deeaGeorgetown, 82-72, in overtime in Brooklyn earlier this year and beat Pitt, in 2009, 74-64, in the Jimmy V Clain Madison Square Garden.
MIAMI ANd MARQUETTE: Indiana has only played Miami once, in 2001 when they ell 58in Miami. IU is 7-2 against Marquette, including a 2-0 mark in the NCAA Tournament having won in 197Nashville, 75-69, and in 1976, 65-56, in Baton Rouge. Marquette won the last meeting, 50-49, at the Great AlaShootout when Tom Crean was the head coach o the Golden Eagles. He guided them or nine years with NCAA Tournament appearances, including the 2003 Final Four.
INdIANA IS ... : Ranked No. 4 in the nal regular season Associated Presspoll and was No. 3 inUSA Today/ESPNCoaches Poll. Director o Operations/Internal and ExtePlayer Development Calbert Cheane was a rst round pick in 1993 o the Washington Bullets and plaor the ranchise until 1999. COACH CREAN: Tom Crean is in his th year with the Hoosiers and has guided them to a 56-15 mark sithe start o the 2011-12 season and is 84-81 during his tenure at Indiana. He was named 2013 USBWA DistriCoach o the Year. He is 274-177 all-time as a head coach and has 13 wins over nationally ranked oes in the ltwo-plus seasons. a one point lead. Following another deensive stand,the Hoosiers worked the clock and Zeller ound
Oladipo open or a triple at the top o the key to seal
the game.
IU 83, JAMES MAdISON 62:Freshman yogi Ferrell scored the rst nine pointsand nished with a game-high 16 to lead the Hoosiers
to to the second round win. Ferrell also had eight
rebounds and six assists. Junior Will Sheeheadded 15 points o the bench as the Hoosiers built
a 43-22 haltime lead. Sophomore Rem Abell alsohad seven points o the bench. For the game, IU
shot 52.7 percent rom the eld and 39.1 percent
rom long distance.
OlAdIPO ANd ZEllER: For the rsttime since 1976 (Kent Benson and Scott May), IU will
put two USBWA All-Americans on the foor at the
same time. Junior Victor Oladipo was named rstteam by the USBWA and sophomore Cod Zellerwas a second team choice. Oladipo was named
National Player o the Year by Sporting News and a
First Team All-American, while Zeller landed on the
third team. Teammates D.J. White and Eric Gordon
earned All-American honors in 2008, but Gordon was
not named on the USBWA team.
TEAM NOTES: Indiana is second in thecountry in ree throws made per game (18.8), scoring
margin (17.3), third in scoring (79.5) and 3-point eld
goal percentage (40.8). They are also sixth in eld
goal percentage (.486) and 11th in rebound margin
(7.5). IU led the Big Ten in home attendance (17,412)
and sold out all 19 home games this season. The 7-2
record in road games is the rst winning season on
the road since 2007-08 when IU went 6-3. Overall,
the Hoosiers are 12-4 in games away rom Assembly
Hall this season.
NATIONAllY (PlAYERS): JuniorVictor Oladipo is tied or 17th in the country intotal steals (75) and ninth in the country in eld goal
percentage (.594) while ranking th in eective
eld goal percentage (.643). Christian Watord isourth in the country in 3-point eld goal percentage
(.483). Cod Zeller is ninth in the country in reethrows made (192) and tied or sixth in ree throws
attempted (253).
OlAdIPO: Junior Victor Oladipo was namedSporting News National Player o the Year anda First Team All-American by Sporting News and
the USBWA. In addition, he was named Big Ten
Deensive Player o the Year and First Team All-
Big Ten. He is also one o 14 nalists or the Oscar
Robertson National Player o the Year Award, among
the 15 up or consideration or the John Wooden
Award and was the Big Ten Deensive Player o the
Year. The Big Ten leader in steals (2.1) is always
given the toughest deensive assignment or the
Hoosiers.

Oladipo has improved his eld goal shooting
percentage rom 47.1 to 59.4, his 3-point eld goal
percentage rom 20.8 to 43.3 and his oensive
rebounds rom 1.8 per game to 2.6. He had a career-
high 26 points and added eight rebounds against Ohio
State in Columbus. He scored six points in the nal
minute at Michigan State and nished with 19 points,
nine rebounds and ve steals against the Spartans.
In the nal game o the regular season he had 14
points and a career-high 13 rebounds or the second
double-double o his career. Added his third double-
double with 12 points and 11 rebounds in a win over
Illinois in the Big Ten Tournament. In Sundays game
against Temple, drilled a 3-point eld goal with 15
seconds let to seal the win. Two days prior he had 11
points, six rebounds and three assists against James
Madison.
He is averaging 13.6 points and 6.4 rebounds. His 75
steals this season set a new single-season record at
Indiana, surpassing Isiah Thomas 74 in 1980-81.
ZEllER: All-American Cod Zeller loggedeight double-doubles in Big Ten play and is averaging
16.7 (3rd) points and 8.0 (2nd) rebounds on the year,
including a 25-point, 10-rebound perormance in the
regular season nale at Michigan. The 7-oot orward
went or 24 points and nine boards against Illinois in
the Big Ten Tournament and then posted 13 points
and 11 rebounds against Wisconsin the ollowing
day.
He was named First Team All-American by Sports
Illustrated. The Washington, Ind., native was
also named First Team Capital One Academic All-
American. The three-time Big Ten Player o the Weekleads the league in ree throws made in all games
(192) and ree throws attempted (253). Both o those
totals are the second-most ever by a sophomore at
Indiana (Don Schlundt).
He had 11 points against James Madison and 15
points and six rebounds against Minnesota.
HUllS: Senior Jordan Hulls leads all seniorsnationally with a career 3-point eld goal percentage
o 44.6 percent and has made 254 career 3-pointers.
This season, he is shooting 45.5 percent rom long
range, second in the Big Ten. An honorable mention
All-Big Ten selection, he has also scored 1,303 pointsin his career, the most ever by a player who is a
Bloomington native. His assist-to-turnover ratio this
season is better than 2-to-1 (104-to-41).
Entering the regional, he has played in every game
(134) since he set oot on campus as a reshman,
the most games ever played by an Indiana player,
breaking the previous record o 133 held by Randy
Wittman and Je Newton. He had 10 points and
three assists against James Madison and added ve
key second hal points against Temple.
Hulls is a nalist or the Senior CLASS Award and has
been named a Third Team Academic All-American.
WATFORd: Senior Christian Watord is theleading active scorer in the Big Ten with 1,717 points
and rebounder at 770. The Birmingham, Ala., native
and Third Team All-Big Ten pick has ve double-
doubles to his credit this season, giving him 17 or
his carer. He enters the NCAA Tournament with 129
games started, which is the second-most all-time at
Indiana. Calbert Cheaney is the career leader with
130 games started.
He had a key block with 2:18 let to help uel a 10-0
run giving IU the win against Temple. He had nine
points and eight boards against the Owls and nine
points and ve boards versus JMU.
The senior is averaging 12.3 points and 6.3 rebounds
per game overall this season and is connecting at a
81.8 percent clip at the ree throw line. He has also
increased his 3-point eld goal percentage rom 43.7
last year to 48.3 percent this season, which ranks rst
in the Big Ten.
Watord had 12 points and a critical conventionalthree-point play late in the win at Michigan State to
help the Hoosiers overcome a our-point decit with
just over a minute remaining. He was huge at Ohio
State when he had 20 points and six rebounds, and
made 4-o-5 rom long distance.
FERREll: Freshman Kevin yogi Ferrellwas named Honorable Mention All-Big Ten by the
media and to the Big Ten All-Freshman Team by the
coaches. He is averaging 4.2 assists per game, which
is third-best in the Big Ten. In Big Ten play, he upped
his production to 8.6 points.
On the year, he has 146 assists, which is second-mostall-time in program history by a reshman, trailing
only Isiah Thomas 159 during the 1979-80 season.
Like Hulls, he has a better than 2-to-1 assist-to-
turnover ratio (146-to-71).
He reached double gures or the 12th time this
season with 16 points against James Madison
in Dayton, while also grabbing eight boards and
handing out six assists. He had a season-high 19
points against Iowa, while also handing out ve
assists. Against MSU at home, he had 11 points and
three assists.
SHEEHEY: Junior Will Sheehe, who wasnamed Big Ten Sixth Man o the Year by the coaches,
is averaging 9.5 points per game o the bench while
playing an average o 22.1 minutes per contest. He
has scored in double gures in 17 games this season.
He is the rst Hoosier to be Big Ten Sixth Man o the
Year. He had 15 points against James Madison and
10 versus Temple. He set a new Indiana single-game
record by going 9-o-9 rom the eld against Purdue,
scoring a career-high 22 points to help IU sweep the
season series.
Sheehey is shooting 49.2 percent rom the foo
and has set career highs in eld goals made (123)
3-pointers made (28), rebounds (3.5 rpg) and assists
(45).
He hit a game-winning basket against VCU in the
third round o last years NCAA Tournament.
HOllOWEll: Freshman Jerem Hollowelhas shown improvement o the bench and stepped
up in a big way at Michigan in the regular season
nale, scoring ve points and grabbing ve rebounds
in just 12 minutes o action. He connected on his sixth
3-point eld goal o the season in the game agains
the Wolverines.
In 32 games played this season, he is averaging 1.9
points and 2.1 rebounds. But in his last ve games, he
is playing an average o 10.0 minutes and contributin
1.8 points and 2.4 rebounds.
His season-high in scoring came in the second game
o the season against North Dakota State when hepoured in 14 points in 19 minutes.
ETHERINgTON OUT: Sophomore AustinEtherington underwent surgery in Indianapolis onSunday to repair a ractured patella he suered in
his let leg during the Hoosiers game Dec. 8 agains
Central Connecticut State University. He will no
return to action this season.
CREEK: Redshirt junior Maurice Creek haplayed in 23 games this season and is averaging 1.9
points and 1.0 rebound per game. Earlier in Big Ten
play, he stepped it up and averaged 4.0 points and 1.5
rebounds over a two-game stretch against Nebraskaand Purdue.
ABEll: Sophomore Rem Abell has beenanother regular o the Indiana bench, playing in
all 35 games to this point. He is averaging over 12
minutes per game in addition to 4.1 points and 1.5
rebounds on the season. His season-best scoring
output came against North Dakota State on Nov. 12
dropping 14 points while also grabbing ve rebounds
Most recently he had seven points o the bench
against James Madison in the second round o the
NCAA Tournament. For his career, Abell is shooting
46.8 percent rom beyond the 3-point line, including50.0 percent this year (16-o-32).
ElSTON: Senior Derek Elston, who wassidelined early in the season ater let knee surgery
did not play in the Big Ten Tournament due to
lingering injuries. The Tipton, Ind., native is averaging
1.2 points and 0.9 rebounds or the season.
He is a career 37.5 percent shooter rom 3-point range
and shot 55.2 percent rom long distance last season

ACAdEMIC All-AMERICAN:Sophomore Cody Zeller (Washington, Ind.) was
named a First Team Academic All-American and
senior Jordan Hulls (Bloomington, Ind.) was named a
Third Team Academic All-American. A business major
with a 3.44 G.P.A., Zeller is the lone sophomore on
the Capital One Academic All-America Division I
Mens Basketball rst team.
Hulls is a graduate student with a 3.49 G.P.A. in
athletic administration. He earned a bachelors
degree in exercise science rom IU last May. IU is the
only school with two players among the 15 honored.
1,000 POINT SCORERS: Indianacurrently has our players with more than 1,000 career
points in the starting lineup, the rst time in school
history that an IU team has had our players surpass
1,000 points at one time. Senior Christian Watord
(1,717), senior Jordan Hulls (1,318), sophomore Cody
Zeller (1,147) and junior Victor Oladipo (1,101) make
up 4/5ths o the highest scoring active starting lineup
in college basketball.
HISTORY: This is Indianas 113th season ocollege basketball. The Hoosiers, who have won ve
NCAA titles, 21 Big Ten titles, including 11 outright,
have the best winning percentage in league game
history winning 58.6 percent o its conerence tilts
(877-619).
dEFENSIVE COMPARISON FROMlAST YEAR: Through 36 games this season(compared to 36 games last season), IU has improved
rom 42.6 eld goal percentage deense to 38.9,
3-point eld goal deense rom 34.9 to 30.3, rebound
margin rom +4.0 to +7.5 and points allowed rom66.4 to 62.1.
Through 18 Big Ten games, eld goal deense has
improved rom 44.5 to 40.6, 3-point eld goal deense
35.5 to 30.3, rebound margin rom +2.8 to +4.2 and
points per game, 69.6 to 64.4. The Hoosiers are also
tied or the largest point dierential in the nation
since the beginning o the 2011-12 season (+14.4).
THE IMPACT OF COdY: Since All-American Cody Zeller has joined the IU starting

The Hoosiers claimed the Big Ten Championship or

Guided IU to its rst No. 1 seed in the Big Ten
Tournament.
Earned the schools third No. 1 seed in the
NCAA Tournament since 1980 and rst consecutive
appearances in the Sweet SIxteen or IU since 1994.

Oladipo is just the third player in IU history (Scott
May, 1976 and Calbert Cheaney, 1993) to be named
Sporting NewsNational Player o the Year. Oladipo
also is just the second Hoosiers (Dane Fie, 2002) tobe named Big Ten Deensive Player o the Year. He
is a First Team All-American and a First Team All-Big
Ten pick.
Saw IU post a win at No. 4 Michigan State, the
highest-ranking road win in school history.
The win over Michigan State gave Indiana our
wins against teams ranked in the APTop 10 at the
time the game was played, the most in a single-
season since 1992-93 season (six).
Saw No. 3 IU deeat No. 1 Michigan at home, 81-
73, in a game that eatured the two highest teamsever to play in Assembly Hall.
On Jan. 30, 2013, Indiana topped Purdue in West
Laayette by a score o 97-60, the third-largest margin
o victory by the road team in a Big Ten Conerence
game. The loss was also the worst-ever loss or
Purdue in Mackey Arena.
IU was picked as the No. 1 team in the country in several
2012-13 preseason accounts includingthe ESPN/USA Today
Preseason Coaches Poll, Associated PressPreseason Top 25,

IU and Miami posted a national best 7-2 conerence
road record. The Hoosiers strength o schedule was
the ninth best in the country (RPI).
Signee Noah Vonleh has been chosen to play inthe McDonalds All-American game marking the third
straight year that an Indiana recruit (Zeller, Ferrell)
will play in the abled event. Vonleh and signee Tro
Williams also will play in the Jordan Brand ClassicAll-Star game, a rst or the Hoosiers.
2011-12 SEASON Guided IU to its sixth-winningest season in schoolhistory with a 27-9 mark and a berth in the NCAA
Tournaments Sweet 16 and a No. 13 national ranking.
Crean was named National Coach o the Year by
ESPN.com and Big Ten Coach o the Year by The
Sporting Newsollowing the 2011-12 season.
Led IU to a No. 7 and No. 8 national ranking in his
ourth season and guided the Hoosiers to wins over
the No. 1 (Kentucky), No. 2 (Ohio State) and No. 5(Michigan State) teams this season, the rst IU team
to ever do so in the regular season. IU was ranked
16th and 17th in the nal regular season polls.
Led IU to the largest turnaround among major
college conerences with a 15 1/2 game improvement,
tying or the best in Big Ten history.
In the win over Kentucky, junior Christian
Watordsgame winning 3-pointer was named GeicoNational Play o the Year and won an ESPY or Play
o the Year.
Saw reshman Cod Zeller earn APAll-Americanhonors and had Watord earn All-South Region
accolades at the NCAA Tournament. Zeller also earned
All-District awards rom the NABC and USBWA and
was a second team All-Big Ten choice.
Zeller was a nalist or the Waymon Tisdale Award
(Freshman o the Year) and a nominee or the Wooden
Award and the Oscar Robertson Award.
Watord, junior Jordan Hulls, and sophomoreVictor Oladipo earned honorable mention All-BigTen honors, and Oladipo was a member o the All-
Deensive team.
Saw IU lead the Big Ten in scoring, 3-point eld goal
shooting, eld goal percentage and nish second in
ree throw percentage. The Hoosiers were second
in the nation in 3-point percentage, th in overall
shooting and 11th rom the line.
In 13 years as a head coach, he has seen all 39
seniors earn degrees, and had Jordan Hulls, Derek
Elston and Matt Roth graduate rom IU in three years
and Tom Pritchard in three and a hal.
Since coming to Indiana, he and his sta recruited
one o the top 10 classes in the country or 2009, a top
15 class in 2011, and the No. 2 class in 2012.

OlAdIPO UP FOR SUTTON AWARdIndiana junior guard Victor Oladipo is among twelve
individuals who have been named to the seminal
list or college basketballs third annual Eddie Sutton
Tustenugee Award, to be presented by Tulsa Sports
Charities.
The players were announced Tuesday by Tommy
Thompson, director o Tulsa Sports Charities. Thedozen athletes were selected by a national panel o
media members who cover college basketball.
In the language o the Muscogee (Creek) Nation, one
o the Five Civilized Tribes that settled in Oklahoma,
tustenugee means warrior.
The Sutton award, according to Thompson, is
presented to the collegiate basketball player who
best exhibits the traits o tenacity and unselshness
that Sutton advocated during his Hall o Fame career.

ONE ACAdEMIC All-AMERICANSBLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Two members o the top-ranked Indiana University mens basketball team are
among 15 who were named to the 2012-13 Capital
One Academic All-America Division I Mens
Basketball Team, as selected by the College Sports
Inormation Directors o America (CoSIDA). IU is the
only school with more than one player recognized.
Sophomore Cod Zeller (Washington, Ind.) wasnamed a First Team Academic All-American and
senior Jordan Hulls (Bloomington, Ind.) was nameda Third Team Academic All-American. They are the
10th and 11th players in program history to earn
the honor and the rst since Luke Recker receivedthe distinction in 1999. In addition, both earned the
coveted Mr. Basketball Award as the top high school
player in the state o Indiana beore coming to IU.
I believe Cody and Jordan represent exactly what
we expect an Indiana basketball player to embody,
said IU Coach Tom Crean. I think their achievements
academically is in direct proportion to the success
they are having on the court. You cant have one
without the other. They are outstanding young men.
A business major with a 3.44 G.P.A., Zeller is the
lone sophomore on the Capital One Academic All-
America Division I Mens Basketball rst team. An
All-American as a reshman, he is averaging 16.6
points and 8.2 and ranks ninth nationally with a .598
eld goal percentage and eclipsed the 1,000-point
mark in his career with a 17-point eort at Michigan
State on Tuesday. The 2012 Big Ten Freshman o the
Year, Zeller is a candidate or the Wooden Award,
the Naismith Award and the Oscar Robertson Award.
The younger brother o UNCs Tyler Zeller, the 2011-
12 Capital One Academic All-America o the Year,Zeller is studying at IUs prestigious Kelley School o
Business.
Hulls is a graduate student with a 3.49 G.P.A. in
athletic administration. He earned a bachelors
degree in exercise science rom IU last May. He is
29th on the schools all-time scoring list with 1,261
points and is second all-time at IU with 240 three-
point eld goals made. He is second in the country
in three-point eld goal percentage making 48.9% o
his long distance calls. He is averaging 10.8 points
and is third in the Big Ten in Assist/turnover ratio.
