B PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES Ability to diagnose and resolve technical problems that will normally impact at end-user level. Install, configure, upgrade and test IT&T equipment as required Development of technical specifications for new IT&T hardware and related products, including conducting research on IT related products as required Maintain User Accounts to ensure that access to the Faculty’s IT resources are consistent with University and Faculty policies Assist in the identification of end-user training requirements and provide impromptu one- on-one training in generic computing skills and desktop packages as required Escalate faults to external vendors for repair and support where necessary and follow through to completion Maintain records such as Asset Register, Configuration Item Database, and Master Lease Agreement assets, for Faculty equipment in an accurate and timely manner Undertake physical audits when required to verify information Manage purchases, and maintain IT Store room and workshop Maintain departmental admin filing system and recommend improvements where appropriate Coordinate documentation of training manuals and other documents with Arts-IT staff Source new software. Negotiate with suppliers to ascertain various licence arrangements, and provide cost comparisons. Make appropriate recommendations to the IT&T Manager Monitor and process timesheets for casual technical staff The incumbent will undergo job rotation with the service team on regular basis in order to build and retain appropriate knowledge about the scope of the Faculty IT Services,

building rapport with other IT staff and gain an understanding of different systems and service desk

• Perform support duties across all IT & Technology areas supported by the Arts IT&T as required

C REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS The Technical Officer reports to the IT&T Planning Coordinator. No position reports to the Technical Assistant. D ORGANISATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS On a day to day basis the Technical Officer works closely with Arts-IT&T staff to independently solve routine IT&T general support problems as a member of a team. E SUPERVISION AND INDEPENDENCE Independence to: • Investigate and find solutions to routine, non-discipline specific hardware and software

problems • Research hardware, software, and IT solution problems and contact suppliers for further

information • Diagnose complex hardware, software and IT solution problems as a member of a team; • Work unsupervised in the field The incumbent is expected to assist with the preparation and documentation of Faculty IT policies and procedures. F PROBLEM SOLVING AND JUDGEMENT • Apply existing policies and procedures • Exercise well developed diagnostic skills on sophisticated equipment or systems • Make appropriate choice from options to achieve optimal technical outcomes and make

recommendations on suitable Faculty standards. • Recognise and apply solutions that best serve users in an environment of constantly

changing technology • Reconciliation of records • Assist IT&T Planning Coordinator in all facets of technology implementation and planning G RECOURSE TO HIGHER LEVEL Reference would normally be made to:

• Faculty IT&T Manager • Faculty General Manager • Faculty HR Manager • Other Faculty IT staff • Other appropriate resources within the University

• Suppliers of solutions to the University as required. H DELEGATIONS None I QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS Essential

• An Associate Diploma level qualification in a related discipline with relevant work experience or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training

• Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills including the ability to prepare routine correspondence and documentation

• Demonstrated experience with computer network systems, software applications and web-based technology

• Demonstrated organisational skills including ability to plan and set priorities in order to efficiently handle a varied workload

• Demonstrated ability to undertake a range of tasks with competing deadlines • Demonstrated interpersonal skills with an ability to liaise with a broad range of

people • Demonstrated ability to contribute and participate effectively in a team

environment Desirable

• A thorough understanding of the University’s purchasing policies and procedures or the ability to acquire same

• Experience in similar customer service environment • CompTIA A+ certification • Experience with TRIM record management system • Experience with Finance1 management system
