Matthew 5:16 Passage of the Month KIDS COVE As God’s Son, Jesus deserved a palace with a throne, complete with servants waiting on His every need or desire. Yet for Jesus, it wasn’t about those things. He focused His attention on serving, not on being served. Mark records it this way—Jesus said, “Even the Son of Man did not come to be served. Instead, he came to serve others. He came to give his life as the price for setting many people free.” As we lean into God’s heart and discover what it means to reflect His character to the world around us, we soon discover that service is not just what people do for us, but rather what we need to be doing for the people around us. This month the Elementary Ministry will be focusing on service and what happens when we take the focus off of ourselves and lend a hand to someone else who needs it. Meanwhile, this month in the Preschool and Kindergarten Ministry, we are going to learn that God is always at work by studying the life of Joseph. We’ll see that God usually doesn’t reveal His plans all at once. Instead, like little pieces of a bigger puzzle, His work slowly fits together to reveal His will and love and plan for each of us. We’ll learn that, like Joseph, we can trust God even when things don’t yet make sense. Passage of the Month

KIDS COVE

As God’s Son, Jesus deserved a palace with a throne, complete with servants waiting on His every need or desire. This month the Elementary Ministry will be focusing on service and what happens when we take the focus off of ourselves and lend a hand

to someone else who needs it. Meanwhile, this month in the Preschool and Kindergarten Ministry, we are going to learn that God is always at work by studying the life of Joseph. We’ll see that God usually doesn’t reveal His plans all at once. Instead,

like little pieces of a bigger puzzle, His work slowly fits together to reveal His will and love and plan for each of us. We’ll learn that, like Joseph, we can trust God even when things don’t yet make sense.

Cuddle up with your child and pray: “Dear God, thank You for our family. Thank You for (name your family). Help us to forgive each other and help us take care of each other. Help us to trust Your plans for our life. Your plans are

always best. We love You, God. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

Bible Verse“The plans of the Lord stand firm forever!”

Psalm 33:11

Bottom LineGod has a plan for me!

This Month...This month, our preschoolers and kindergarteners are learning about Joseph. His life shows us that God has a plan for each and every one of us. Even when we are in the pit of despair, we can trust that God has a plan for us. We probably won’t understand the plan during those dark moments, but we can trust that it’s there. God not only has a plan for your child’s life, but He has one for you too. If you’ve never read about Joseph, take some time to read it this month. (It’s in Genesis 37.) As you read, think about how your life parallels with his. God has a plan for your life just as He had one for Joseph’s!

Bible Verse“Let your light shine before others, that they

may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”

Matthew 5:16

This Week...Week 1: In Mark 10:32-45, Jesus reminds his disciples that He came to serve and give His life for everyone. He teaches them that if they want to be great, they need to be servants to all.Bottom Line: Serve others because of what Jesus did for us.Week 2: Serving others has always been part of what it means to follow God, and Deuteronomy 15:7-10 remind us that it’s not just the act of serving that’s important; it’s also important that we serve others with the right attitude.Bottom Line: Have a good attitude when you lend a hand.Week 3: In John 6:1-13, Jesus has been talking to a crowd of over 5,000 people. The people are restless and hungry, but Jesus uses a young boy’s small offering to save the day.Bottom Line: Use what you have to lend a hand.Week 4: In 1 Kings 17, we learn that when a poor widow asks God for a way to help Elijah, God makes a way.Bottom Line: Ask God for what you need to lend a hand.Week 5: In Matthew 6:1-4, Jesus says when we serve it shouldn’t be in a way that is showy and puts all of the attention on ourselves.Bottom Line: Lend a hand without looking for applause.
