A system of satellites, computers, and receivers in

which traffic data is incorporated in the map, the

driver can get the fastest route, can know the

position of the signals ahead, predict traffic jams,

    etc.

    ELECTRONIC PAYMENT SYSTEM

In line with the Governments policy to implement e-commerce,

the deployment of electronic transactions in the transportation

sector on tolled highways and public transport has progressing

well. Highway toll collection nationwide is currently eithertransacted through a common smart card system, or by manual

    collection.

The same smart cards, which can be reloaded through

Automated Teller Machine are also acceptable by various bus

services, parking services and light-rail transit services within

the Klang Valley , where Kuala Lumpur is situated. Effort is

being made to accept the same for all modes of transport

    within the region.

    TECHNIQUE USED

There are several existing modesof sensing:

    static sensing, where sensors

    are statically placed on theroad,

mobile sensing, wheresensors are placed in the

    moving vehicles

    hybrid sensing, where bothin-vehicle

    and on-road infrastructure areneeded

    Static sensing: techniques

Loops and magnetic sensors -Vehicle detection and counting usingmagnetic sensors or loops under theroad surface, and deployed systems

Images and videos - Videosurveillanceto monitor traffic statesand detect incidents and hotspots isfairly common gives a comprehensive

survey of the major computer visiontechniques used in traffic applications.

Acoustic sensors - Some recentresearch is beingdone to use acousticsensors for traffic state estimation, especially in developing regions, where traffic being chaotic is noisy .

RF sensors - Wireless radiosplacedacross the road have communicationsignals affected by vehicularmovement in between..

    Mobile sensing: techniques

GPS on public transport or fleet

vehiclesMany public transport andfleet companies have GPS installed intheir vehicles for real time tracking..

GPS on Smartphone's - With therecent proliferation of smart phones,Smartphone GPS is being studied forhotspot detection and travel timeestimation, after handling noise inGPS readings

Sensors on Smartphone's - Otherthan GPS, smart phones also have

sensors that can provide interestinginformation. [28] solved the problemof reorienting the accelerometer of aSmartphone to match the car axes.

Using ordinary phones - Some researchers have tried usingordinary cell phones, instead of Smartphone's, for traffic sensing.

Localizing ordinary phones based on only cellular tower and Wi-Fiinformation and adding sensors to ordinary phone hardware aretwo main research focus in this area This sensing using phones, popularly called crowdsourcing has related research on privacy andpower issues, as these would affect user participation.

Specialized hardware on vehicles - Some researchers have usedspecialized hardware in vehicles. which detects road anomalies andwhich tracks stolen properties are examples. which uses ultrasoundtransceivers to find empty parking spaces and which calculates fuel

usage, are applications for individual vehicle owners usingcustomized hardware.

Social networking- took a fresh perspective of getting informationfromcrowd through blogs posted via smart phones.

Hybrid sensing: techniques There are a set of techniques thatuse both static infrastructure and mobile sensors to gain

    traffic information.

    (1) Teledensity - Cell phone operators can give approximatevehicle

densities in the neighborhood of a given cell tower, based on

subscribers seen at that tower. There are commercial systemsand research efforts are based on this.

    (2) Bluetoothit is a system where roadside Bluetoothdetectors sense Bluetooth radios in phones inside vehicles.Correlating the sensed Bluetooth addresses among different

detectors, gives travel times of the vehicles between thedetectors.

    (3) RFID - Similar systems are being explored using RFID tags onvehicles and RFID readers on roads [
