About thePlatelet Disorder Support Association

The Platelet Disorder Support Association (PDSA) is dedicated to enhancing the lives of people with immunethrombocytopenia (ITP) and other platelet disorders through education, advocacy, research and support.Patient-founded in 1998 to educate and empower those impacted by ITP and other rare platelet and bleedingdisorders, PDSA is now a powerful force serving and unifying the global community of patients, practitioners, caregivers, advocates and key disease stakeholders. PDSA is committed to building awareness, educating theglobal community, and providing critical connections and resources that empower patients to take charge oftheir disease and encourage practitioners to exercise patient-centered medical care.

PDSA receives no federal funding. It never has. Charitable gifts from our individual and corporate donors, membership contributions, and inspiring awareness and philanthropic events coordinated by committedvolunteers energize, uphold and preserve our mission.

PATIENT EDUCATION - PDSA is home to the most extensive patient-focused library of current disease, treatment and research information available online and in print.

PATIENT SUPPORT - Our patient-centered programs and services connect ITP patients and caregivers, build awareness, promote community, and empower ITP patients to take control of their disease.

AWARENESS & ADVOCACY - We are committed to ongoing awareness, advocacy and collaborations withother patient advocacy groups, researchers and government agencies to drive public policy, develop newtreatment options and fund research to find a cure.

PLATELET DISORDER RESEARCH - We support investigations that examine the pathogenesis andmanagement of primary ITP and present the most promising outlook to significantly improve diagnosis, therapies, and patient quality of life.

Page 4: ITP CONFERENCE ALONE TOGETHER

So much can happen in a year. One year ago, we were beginning our first ever virtualconference, unsure of what the next few months would bring and how we could continueto combat the COVID-19 virus that had already done so much damage and continued todisrupt the lives of so many people around the world. We held out hope that our 2021 ITPPatient Conference could be an in-person event, but ultimately recognized it would not yetbe possible to safely bring the ITP community, PDSA staff, medical professionals, andindustry leaders together. As we gather once again on our unique virtual platform forPDSA’s 21st annual conference, we acknowledge the grief, loss, and fear the pandemic hasinflicted upon our community, and the world. But Virtual ITP Conference 2021 is also acelebration of hope, marking an emergence from the darkness of this past year as we turntowards the future, celebrating impressive scientific progress and the endurance ofcommunity.

In a year of so much uncertainty, PDSA continues to be the leading resource for ITPpatients around the world. We put our expertise, resources, and passion to work in newand innovative ways to address the unique concerns of the ITP community during theseconfusing and anxiety-inducing times, providing up-to-date information and resourcesabout COVID-19 on our website, adapting our local support group meetings to a virtualsetting, and ensuring the ITP community stayed connected. The availability of COVID-19vaccines brought a renewed sense of hope and promise, but new concerns from the ITPcommunity arose as cases of thrombocytopenia following COVID-19 vaccination beganappearing in the news. The PDSA office received a flood of calls and emails fromconcerned patients and caregivers, and our staff jumped into action to support, educate, and meet the evolving needs of the ITP community. We hosted townhalls with virologistsand immunologists to share the latest COVID-19 and ITP updates, and worked with ourMedical Advisors – leaders in the field and at the forefront of COVID-19 and ITP research –to provide you with accurate, up-to-date information as it became available.

Welcome to Virtual ITP Conference 2021!

We have faced a global pandemic, lockdowns and quarantines, vaccine opportunities andhesitancy, and the triumphs and trials that accompany living with ITP during a publichealth crisis. It has been our busiest year to date, but the purpose and mission of PDSA’swork has remained constant: serving you, the ITP community. We are stronger together.
