September 9, 2009 School of Architecture College of Architecture Arts and Humanities Clemson University ARCH 251 L – Architectural Foundations I Fall 2009, all sections Interpretation part 2_ Itinerary Due on Monday, September 14, at the beginning of class Translating drawing to constructed space b. Final Model: Scale – gives a measure and precision to the construct. Scale allows the architectural proposal to relate to the human body, as well as giving us a sense of place and orientation. Layers – give a depth to the proposal and an additional sense of measure to the construct. Transparency is a technique that can also heighten the sense of depth and dimension. Create a final model where the frames are doubled from the study model (6” x 9”). Create a scale figure to use in your model. All openings and paths of movement should relate to the normative human figure. For example doors can be no less than 2’-6” wide and 6’-8” tall. Ramps and stairs can be no less than 2’-6” wide. Your architectural proposition should convey movement and narrative. The final model should be well-crafted and precise. c. Review: The entire 2 nd year class will take part in a gallery walk for the review of this project. Models and drawings will be presented as a group in studio pairs. Three reviews will take place simultaneously with instructors moving between sections through the afternoon in the following format: Review location: [approx 1:25 – 4:15] Group A: Sections: Lee and Mitchell Location: Mitchell studio Group B: Sections: Silance and Montilla Location: Lee Studio Group C: Sections: Garland and Nocella Location: Nocella Studio Critic schedule: 1:25 – 2:45 [Garland/Nocella; group A] [Lee/Mitchell; group B] [Silance/Montilla; group C] 2:55 – 4:15 [Silance/Montilla; group A] [Garland/Nocella; group B] [Lee/Mitchell; group C] 4:25 – 5:25 all studios meet in their normal section location with their instructor *Reviews will begin in their assigned locations promptly at 1:25. b. Final Model:

Scale – gives a measure and precision to the construct. Scale allows the architectural proposal to relate

to the human body, as well as giving us a sense of place and orientation.
