Release & Deployment

Release - A collection of hardware, software, documentation, processes or other components required to implement one or more approved changes to IT services. The contents of each release are managed, tested and deployed as a single entity.

Deployment - The activity responsible for movement of approved releases of hardware, software, documentation, process etc. to test and production environments.



Release & Deployment Management – The process responsible for planning, scheduling and controlling the movement of releases to test and production environments. The primary objective is to ensure the integrity of the production environment.


Scope

The scope of Release and Deployment Management includes the processes, systems and functions to package, build, test and deploy a release into production and establish the service specified in the Service Design Package before final handover to service operations.


Objectives

• To efficiently build, install, test and deploy releases to a target environment successfully and on schedule

• Clear and comprehensive release and deployment plans

• Controlled deployment of a new or changed service into production

• Minimal unpredicted impact on the production services, operations and support organization
