Senate breakout group on IT/HPCC

• Key Focus –

IT Support for Faculty Research (access to and support for research computing).

Instruction (technology available to the faculty in the classrooms).

• Lack of IT resources in small academic units.

• Minimum standards could/should be set for the research, teaching and administrative needs of the faculty.

• A Survey could be used to

Inform the Deans of the satisfaction levels of their faculty with IT resources in an absolute manner and a relative manner.

Proposed ActivitiesA Survey should be created which is administered yearly at the

academic unit level:• Faculty satisfaction with IT for research needs.• Faculty satisfaction with IT for instruction needs.• Faculty satisfaction with IT for administration needs.

Other Concerns:• Systems integration• Data integration• Learning Management System (LMS) / Blackboard• Wireless expansion (continuing)• Quality of IT staffing and support is highly variable• Need better central measurement of IT licenses (a central

repository)
