Paul Beedle has a Ph D in Social Anthropology from University of Cambridge. His dissertation, Citizens and Strangers in aGambian Town was based on fieldwork in The Gambia, West Africa. After gaining his Ph D, he held a Research Fellowship inSocial Policy and Administration at the University of Kent at Canterbury, investigating Public Opinion about the Welfare State.Paul has dedicated most of his career to research and development in the field of Educational Assessment, in which he holds aMaster of Education degree from the University of Bristol. He was a Senior Research Officer at the City and Guilds of LondonInstitute, responsible for research into policy and practice in the field of vocational qualifications. He joined CambridgeAssessment in 1987, and Cambridge International Examinations in 1998, where he has been responsible for the development ofa wide range of international qualifications for general and vocational education, with a particular interest in skills assessment.Working with experts such as Bob Burkill, he has created and manages the Cambridge International Certificate and Diploma forTeachers and Trainers, and other international qualifications for educators around the world. He has presented papers atInternational Association for Educational Assessment (IAEA), EuropeanCouncil for International Schools (ECIS), and numerousother international conferences, and has a number of publications, including A Case Study of the Development on anInternational Curriculum in the SAGE Handbook of Research in International Education. With Dean Roberts and the examinerteam, he has designed and manages the portfolio arrangements and external examining for the ITC. Paul works closely with theCourse Leader at ECIS to ensure the quality, effectiveness and success of the ITC as a whole.

Dean RobertsChief Examiner and Instructor for the ITCCambridge International Examinations (CIE)

Dean Roberts, who is British, has been involved in the teaching profession since 1990. His first teaching post was at an overseasAmerican school in northern Thailand. He found this to be a very positive and fulfilling experience, and his four years at theschool provided the initial motivation for him to further his development as a teacher. On returning to England in 1995, Deantook up a post at a large secondary school a very different educational context and one in which he gained valuable experienceof the relatively new English National Curriculum. It was during this period that he first became involved in teaching adults, as apart-time trainer of computer-based office skills. He also began a Masters Degree in Education, focusing on further, adult andhigher education. Since 1999 Dean has been a consultant for University of Cambridge International Exams (CIE), as well as aPrincipal Examiner and Principal Moderator of IGCSE English. He continues to develop support materials for teachers of IGCSEESL and he has conducted many face-to-face training workshops outside the UK during the past 9 years. Dean has alsoinspected schools for CIE and in addition to his work for CIE, he is a Coursework Moderator for AQA (Assessment andQualifications Alliance) in England (for GCSE English) and he works as a Team Leader of the A2 Orals for the InternationalBaccalaureate Organisation. Dean has also been involved with CIE's Diploma for Teachers and Trainers from the outset and hashelped with its development over the past few years. He works as a Diploma Examiner - and has done so over 10 years. It was hisposition and experience with CIEs professional development department which led to his involvement with ECIS and the ITC.With Paul Beedle, Dean was responsible for designing the structure and content of the ITC syllabus and its supportingdocuments. Together, they hope that they have put in place a program of professional development for internationally-mindedteachers which has rigorous and reliable assessment at its core. Dean is the Chief Examiner of the ITC, leading the team ofAssistant Examiners who assess the portfolios of all ITC student teachers.

Darlene FisherITC Course Leader and Intercultural Trainer

Darlene grew up in a multi-cultural environment in Singapore until she was 15 and then returned to her passport countryAustralia for a few years before going overseas to St Andrews University Scotland to study History. She returned to Australiaand completed a Dip.Ed at Monash University. She then began her career of more than thirty years as a teacher andadministrator in schools. She worked at all girls, all boys and co-ed schools in Australia, USA, Oman, Thailand, India and Turkey,all the while using her experience and understanding of being a TCK (Third Culture Kid) to help her students understandthemselves, whether from one culture or mixed cultures and backgrounds. Her own interest and research into internationaleducation developed an academic side as she pursued a Masters in Education at Bath University which then morfed into an EdD,where she is currently focused on research into culture and educational leadership in an international context. These studiesprovide an academic underpinning to the experiential nature of the knowledge and understanding she brings to educationalleadership. She has been an administrator in Oman, Thailand and India and most recently Director of Enka Schools for 6 years inIstanbul, Turkey. While working in international schools for the past 15 years, Darlene has been closely involved with the IBprogrammes as an examiner, workshop leader and consultant. In her leadership roles in schools, she has supported and trainedteachers from a variety of cultures who are developing their skills working with international curriculum as well as students,parents and colleagues of manydifferent nationalities. Darlene is currently working at ECIS supporting the development of theireducational programmes and as a consultant. She manages the ITC programme for ECIS and is responsible for the academicoversight of the ITC Discussion Forum. She will facilitate some course content, in particular the inter-cultural training, and isthere to assist and support participants with questions about the course content and to lead on-line discussion in areas ofinterest to the ITC.

Eileen PenmanITC Course Administrator

Eileen is the ITC Course Administrator (or Mother Hen). In recent years, Eileen Penman has been working as an EducationalConsultant in the UK, and with ECIS on the International Teacher Certificate program and other areas. Eileen has a BA in Englishfrom San Diego State University and an MA in counseling from University of San Diego. She is also a TOEFL Board Member andwas the first high school representative on the TOEFL Board, serving from 2001-2005 and has been a professional member ofAdvanced Placement Advisory Committee 2004-2006 and SAT Supervisors' Advisory Group 2001-2006.Previously, Eileen was a teacher of high school English and history in California, Nairobi International School and London (as aFulbright exchange teacher). She was also Counseling department chair at Valhalla High School, El Cajon California 1984-90 andCounselor and senior class dean at The American School in London 1990-2006. Whilst at The American School in London Eileenserved on the ECIS Guidance and Counseling Committee for 7 years, 4 of which she was Chair of the committee. She leads 8ECIS counselor tours of UK universities, and in 2006 was honoured by ECIS with the Award for the Promotion of InternationalEducation. She deals with the recruitment and admission (along with Sabina Mazurek) of new teachers into the ITC programme,and as the original ITC mother hen is available to any ITC participants who feel they need some guidance of a personal orpastoral nature during the ITC year.

Dr. Lori Langer de RamirezITC Course Facilitator

Dr. Lori Langer de Ramirez began her career as a teacher of Spanish, French and ESL. She holds a Master's Degree in AppliedLinguistics and a Doctorate in Curriculum and Teaching from Teachers College, Columbia University. She is currently theDirector of World and Classical Languages & Global Language Initiatives at the Dalton School in New York City. Lori is theauthor of several books, including Empower English Language Learners with Tools from the Web and Take Action: Lesson Plansfor the Multicultural Classroom and Voices of Diversity, as well as several Spanish-language books and texts. She hascontributed to many textbooks and written numerous articles about second language pedagogy and methodology. Her website(www.miscositas.com) offers virtual picturebooks, videos, thematic units and other curricular materials for teaching Chinese,English, French, and, Spanish. Lori has presented workshops at local, regional and national conferences and inschoolsthroughout the U.S. and around the world. Lori is the recipient of the Brooks Award for Excellence in the Teaching ofCulture, NEH grants, and a Fulbright Award. Her areas of research and curriculum development are diversity education,folktales and authentic materials, and technology in language teaching, with an emphasis on Web 2.0 tools.

Chadwick V.R. WilliamsITC Course Facilitator

Chadwick has taught ESL and Bilingual Education for over 15 years from struggling inner city public schools in the USA tointernational schools in Japan and in Austria. He is also chair of the ESL and Mother Tongue Committee for the ECIS whichorchestrates one of the world's most renowned educational conferences in the field of multi-literacy education. He alsomanaged and directed a language arts school in Guadalajara, Mexico for two years. He is trilingual in German and Spanish.Chadwick continues to be an adjunct professor for Endicott College for his fourth consecutive year for ESL, bilingual education,and mother tongue. He has presented his action based research on the theme of International Mindedness both at the ECISLeadership and General conferences as well as the AIE (Alliance of International Education) in Doha. He is also the founder of aNon-Profit Organization, Who I Am, for which he has written a curriculum for public and international schools that help youthembrace their mother tongue and cultural identity. As part of a global initiative Turn the Page Challenge he is currentlybuilding the first mother tongue library in a Vienna Public school consisting of over 100 different titles in 28 languages tosupport children who do not have access to literature in their first language. His work with Who I Am has receivedendorsements and/or support from various international organizations such as ECIS, UNESCO, UNICEF, OPEC, Room to Read,the American Embassy, as well as the Vienna Board of Education.

Dr. Helen FailITC Course Facilitator

Helen grew up in a British military family moving cross-culturally every two years. After a BA in French at Bristol University,followed by a postgraduate certificate in education, her first job was with Voluntary Service Overseas in Nigeria, teachingEnglish and French. After three years teaching in the UK she took up her first post in an international school in Jerusalem whereshe headed up the languages department (French, Hebrew, Arabic and E.A.L.). Meeting Dave Pollock led to an interest in ThirdCulture Kids and an MA at Oxford Brookes followed by a PhD at the University of Bath. Her area of research was investigatingthe long-term effects of an international school experience. She then spent 2 years working with Dave Pollock, based in the U.S,teaching the TCK profile and preparing teachers for cross-cultural transition. This was followed by another teaching post in anAmerican international school in Switzerland. After returning to the UK in 1999 Helen was appointed course leader for the MAin Education for Teachers in International Schools at Oxford Brookes University. Her teaching focus was on the language issuesinvolved in teaching students in international schools, developing reflective practice and supervising research into internationaleducation. Since leaving Oxford Brookes she has written about cross-cultural teaching and learning and the influence of our owncultural background on our teaching and expectation of learners. This has led to the development of on-line courses for teachersin international schools and now to the ITC. She has had articles and chapters published in the Journal for Research inInternational Education, Schooling Internationally and the Sage Handbook of Research in International Education. She loves the

international school network and the way that ECIS enables teachers to stay connected while enjoying an internationally mobilelifestyle.

Corinne RosenbergIntercultural Trainer and Instructor for the ITC

Corinne Rosenberg began her career as an EAL teacher and counsellor, and is now an intercultural and global diversity trainingconsultant. Her BA is in American Studies and her MSc is in Strategic Training and Development. She was trained as acounsellor, and has a diploma in EAL. She is a member of CIPD, IFAL and SIETAR, the Society for Intercultural training, Educationand Research. She grew up in the UK, has lived in Israel and the US, and currently resides London but maintains a transatlanticlife. Corinne has twenty years experience in the design, development and delivery of training workshops and seminars foreducational institutions, major corporations, and non-profit agencies in the United States, Britain and across Europe. She hascoached hundreds of expatriate families on managing effective overseas assignments, intercultural interactions and managingintercultural teams. Having a strong interest in creating long-term systemic change management, Corinne ran a longitudinalstudy over six months which demonstrated behavioural change through action learning in a team representing Europe, theMiddle East and Africa. She has published on this topic and is looking to replicate these results with action learning or smallgroup coaching in international schools. She works on informal intercultural interactions between stakeholders, not just aschallenges but also as opportunities for learning about tacit cultural assumptions and expectations. Her approach uses ongoingreflective practice to unleash the intercultural skills that international schools can develop to maximise intercultural learningand responsiveness. While working in the US for twelve years, Corinne developed and instituted a diversity training programmefor twenty-eight offices across the United States for the Anti-Defamation League as part of the nationally acclaimed World ofDifference Institute. She facilitated workshops and trained teachers across the US, as this project was focused on both studentsand parents in schools. Corinne has presented many sessions at ECIS annual November conferences. She runs PD workshops forinternational schools on developing intercultural skills through action learning and reflective practice. She also facilitatesseminars with senior managers on intercultural leadership and has presented on this topic to school principals and seniormanagers at the International Leadership and Management Program. Corinne has worked with ECIS and University ofCambridge International Examinations on the International Teacher Certificate since its inception, and participated in thepublication of the revised syllabus. She is a regular presenter at the ITC Institutes and stays in touch through the ITC DiscussionForum.

Muna AlyusufIntercultural Trainer and Instructor for the ITC

Muna Alyusuf is a cross-cultural training consultant/coach. As such she delivers a wide range of programmes, including Adult &Youth Cross Cultural Training, Adult & Youth Repatriation Training; Candidate Assessment; Business Briefings and GlobalAwareness Programmes. Muna is the Founder and Director of Cedrat el Dar, a cross-cultural training, coaching, and consultancyorganisation based in Al Khobar, Saudi Arabia. Prior to establishing Cedrat el Dar, Muna worked for eight and a half years as theEMEA Intercultural Training Manager for CARTUS Intercultural & Language Solutions. Based in London she managed aultinational/multicultural team of intercultural training consultants throughout Europe, Middle East and Africa. Additionally,she trained over 120 free lance training consultants worldwide. Muna has an MBA from the University of Northern London, andan M.A. degree in Sociology from California State University in Sacramento where she also taught courses in Oil & Conflict in theMiddle East, Middle Eastern Societies and Cultures, and Sociology of the Family. Muna also is a qualified OrganisationalRelationship System Coach and Co-Active Coach as well as a Myers-Briggs certified practitioner. In addition to her involvementin the intercultural training field, Muna has also done social work, counselling and management in Saudi Arabia, the United ArabEmirates, the United States and the United Kingdom. Whilst working as a Student Counsellor in Dubai, the United ArabEmirates, she developed and delivered an Intercultural Orientation programme to the staff and faculty of Dubai WomensCollege on understanding and working effectively with the Arab and Muslim cultures. Originally from Saudi Arabia, Muna haslived in Al Khobar and Riyadh as well as in the United States, the United Arab Emirates, and the United Kingdom. She is amember of the Society of Intercultural Education, Training and Research SIETAR UK, and a member of the Council for Arab-British Understanding UK. She is fluent in both Arabic and English. Satu KreulaIntercultural Trainer and Instructor for the ITC

Satu is originally from Finland, but she grew up in Brazil and the US, and she currently resides in Brighton, on the south coast ofEngland. Satu is an executive coach and facilitator working primarily with individuals and teams in improving their ability tomanage difference, increasing their intercultural sensitivity and enhancing cross-cultural communication to ensure overalleffectiveness and increased productivity. Her professional background is in leadership development and cross-culturalcommunication. She has worked in the private, public and not-for-profit sectors. Employers and clients have included: Nokia,Shell, EBRD, Laban University, Nordic Chambers of Commerce (London), Universidad de los Andes (Colombia), RaleighInternational, and Focus Expatriate Services. She is an associate at itim, Exetor and ASK Europe. Satu has vast internationalexperience. Shes lived and worked in six countries on three continents. In addition, her work has taken her to over 35 countrieson six continents (shes visited 67 in total). Satu is multilingual: she speaks English, Finnish, fluent Spanish, good French andSwedish, and basic Portuguese. She has a Masters degree in Organisational Behaviour and Intercultural Communication fromthe Helsinki School of Economics. She is a graduate of CoachU and a licensed Firework Career Coach, and she has been awardedthe designation of Associate Certified Coach (ACC) by the ICF (International Coach Federation). She is also a certified MBTI(Myers-Briggs Type Indicator) (C) administrator. In addition, Satu is a member of SIETAR (Society for Intercultural Education,Training and Research) and holds the certification to conduct and assess the Intercultural Development Inventory .
