It’s Racing Recorder Season! Skip Saratoga and race on up to Warrensburg To mellow-out at a ”no sopranos” Workshop. Get on track with deep breathing and lovely low recorder tones. Richie and Elaine Henzler will guide you through the music. The day begins with a Chi gong breath workout lead by the inspiringmartial arts teacher Roland Lavigne. Once we are breathing deeply we’ll begin the music with Arvo Pärt’s Da pacem Domine, 2004 which is built on simple bell-like tones, Arvo says “I discovered that it was sufficient if a single sound was played beautifully…” From there we will play music from the Renaissance to Contemporary specifically composed or arranged for the lower recorders alto, tenor, bass, great bass and contra bass. One such work is Night Pieces, 2001 by American composer Ann McKinley. Ann writes about the first movement Moonrise “it serves to let listeners adjust to the fairly deep sound of the group. I always found it profoundly satisfying to hear the great bass enter on its low D.” Join us for this thoroughbred event!!!
