Reuters reports that the pins could break as they did not have adequate anticorrosive coating—but the directive also states airlines don’t need to act immedi-ately as inspection is only required after 56,000 flights.

India Travel AdviceMFAT has reviewed its travel advice for India, warning women not to travel alone in the country following reports of sexual offences against foreigners there. There is some risk to Kiwi travellers’ security in India including in New Delhi and Mumbai from continuing threat from terrorism, and extreme risk in other parts including Jammu and Kashmir.MFAT continues to receive re-por ts of planned terror ist at-tacks in India which in the past have targeted public places fre-quented by Western tourists, it says. Kiwis should avoid walking alone at night in less populous and unlit areas, and women should not travel alone following a number of attacks including in major cities and tourist destinations.

It seems a case of when, not if, Hawaiian Airlines will move to a year-round fourth service a week between Auckland and Honolulu. The carrier announced ear-lier this year its plans to move to a seasonal fourth service a week over the holidays peak later this year. Follow-ing ‘strong support’ from the Kiwi market, HA is now hint-ing at a year-round fourth service.“Nothing would make us happier to expand to four, five or even daily services, and I think we can be highly successful,” HA chief commercial officer Peter Ingram told Travel Today at the Harvey World Travel conference in Waikiki last weekend. Ingram says he is optimis-tic about increasing the frequency on the route but would not be drawn to timeframes.

. . . A Good StartCalling Auckland an untapped mar-ket that used to generate a lot of Hawaii visitors, Ingram said he was amazed that a city the size of Auck-land has not been served by a US car-rier until HA’s return last month.“We’re pretty pleased how things have built up, we’re learning about season-ality...we’re happy how things are looking so far,” he said. “We’ve already added [seasonal] capacity, and we are expecting demand to build as people start to experience the product.”

HA, A Fourth Service and Mainland Focus?

While attracting inbound traffic to New Zealand is essential to the sus-tainability and growth of the service, Ingram said growing the number of Kiwis travelling outbound to Hawaii and the US was the most critical seg-ment to the equation.

. . . US Mainland FocusSpeaking to agents at the HWT con-ference, Ingram called for their sup-port to sell HNL and the carrier’s 11 mainland US destinations, to make the routes a success for agents and the airline. He said Kiwi travellers were known for their ‘great’ length of stay, and that HA’s dual destina-tion proposition would resonate well with Kiwis. “It’s a great way to break up a journey in Hawaii, and New Zealanders tend to travel for longer vacations.”HA has specifically timed AKL-HNL to connect with all of HA’s 11 main-land US destinations bar NYC. Those 10 flights have connections both ways, while the NYC flight connects northbound, and requires a stopover southbound. Ingram said one of the opportunities with HA’s North Amer-ican network is that some seasonal downtimes coincide with the South Pacific travel peaks.

Hawaiian Airlines chief commercial officer Peter Ingram is pictured centre with HA’s Kiwi sales manager Russell Williss and Stella boss Greig Leighton.
