It’s a wonderful world
For our summer topic, we are doing things a little different. Previous topics were all linked to
one theme (the last one being Mount Everest). However, for this one, I’m going to try and
capture a little of the end of term spirit. That means, there will be a range of different
tasks for you to try. We’ll be covering aspects of science, design technology, computing,
transition activities and a few surprises! Hopefully, these will give you a flavour of some of
the varied activities we would have been been working on this last half term. Look out for
the red ‘Activity’ which marks a new task.
I hope you enjoy them!
Keep in touch and continue sharing your brilliant photos!
Take care

Science
Let’s start with some science. Over the next few pages you can learn a little more about
electricity and how to construct circuits. We’ll then move onto finding out about healthy
bodies and how to keep them healthy.
Science – Electricity
Activity
Your parents/carers have been given a log-in for Espresso. Access the site, click on KS2
science and scroll down to ‘Electricity Upper’. You will be taken to the page below. Watch the
videos, read the fact-files, then try the activities (you’ll find these option on the little menu
on the left of the screen).
Activity
If you have access to a laptop/computer, you can use ‘Engineering Interact’. You will
remember this resource as we have used it before for revision. You will find an adventure
that further explores Electricity’ called ‘Silicon Spies’. Feel free to visit some of the other
scientific adventures – they’re great fun! http://www-g.eng.cam.ac.uk/mmg/teaching/peterstidwill/interact/interact.htm
NOTE – this site does not work with IPADS.
Activity
Online circuit builder (laptops/computers only – not IPADS)
http://www.cleo.net.uk/consultants_resources/science/circuitWorld/index.html
Design and test your own circuits with this online resource. NOTE – to rotate wires into
different positions, first place it onto the board, then click in it until it rotates into the
required position.

Science
A healthy body and a healthy lifestyle
Again, log-in to Espresso, KS2 science and scroll down to ‘Bodies (upper)’. You will find videos,
information and activities all about key human body functions and the importance of a
healthy lifestyle.
Activity
Hopefully, you have learned a bit about human organs. Have a try at this challenge activity.
If you’re not sure of an answer, maybe a little Google research will help.
Colour each major
organ of the human
body. Use the code
below....
lungs – blue
large intestines – yellow
small intestines – yellow
stomach – yellow
brain – purple
heart – red
kidneys – green
liver – brown
eyes – light blue
ears - orange
Now label each organ
with the correct name.
What is the job of the heart?
What is the job of the brain?
What is the job of the lungs?
What is the job of the stomach?
Activity
Back to Espresso to learn a little more about the functions of the body, including the
digestive and circulatory systems. Click on Key stage 2 science and scroll down to this
section. Watch the videos and try the online activities.
Activity
Challenge – can you match the food group, function and examples.
Activity
Design a pie chart for the types of food you eat.
Activity
If you’re in the mood for some more simple experiments and design projects to conduct at
home, this STEM link has a great range to try out. Click on the link, scroll down and choose
one that looks like fun!

Sports!
Summer is a time for sports. Here are a few ideas and projects with a sporty theme. Have
fun!

Computing
Let’s develop some future skills!
Activity
Fancy trying a different type of coding? When you first log into Espresso, choose the coding
module Version 2 (the bottom option)
Then scroll down to the Python section
Enjoy working through the modules. I think you’ll find it a good progressive challenge from
the block coding.

Activity
Time to Ponder
Let’s think about how you would respond to a couple of unusual situations.
Activity
The six items Reasons for choosing them

The challenge:
You are going to spend seven nights alone on a desert island. You have a boat and a
rucksack. You are allowed to take six other items with you to help you survive.
What six items you will take and explain why you think they will be useful.
What might you need to survive?
Activity
Dffh
If you won a million pounds what would you do with it?
Remember, you can’t buy love or happiness, but it is interesting to see what you can buy.’
Fill in the chart – adding in as much detail as you can.
What is the very first thing that you would go out and buy?
What things would you like to do with your money?
Which family members would you give some money to and why?
Which friends would you give some money to and why?
At school what might you use your money for?
Which charity would you give money to and why that particular charity?
What places would you like to travel to or see with your money?
What foods would you buy or order?
What would you buy for your bedroom?
What clothes would you buy?
What problems do you think might be caused by having all that money?
Transition – Thinking about school life
This next section is a time to reflect on life at St Peter’s. It has been a very strange final
term, but we can all still think about the happy and challenging times we have experienced.
We will also look at some activities that help us to consider our next steps into the new
schools we will be starting soon.
