GENERAL INFORMATION

Since 1993, Panteco has been dedicated to manufacturing water soluble film and bags according to their European and American patents. Our water soluble material is made from PVA (polyvinyl alcohol) film. PVA is a non-toxic environmentally friendly 100 % biodegradable material that dissolves in water. PVA is commonly used in packaging of a variety of goods, such as plant and vegetable seeds, textiles and clothing, unfinished embroidery items, fresh foods and also in making of water soluble laundry bags for better hygiene and easy handling of soiled washable items. The water-soluble film is green environmental Product. It is verified by microorganism tests that PVA is non-toxic and doesn't restrain from the growth of microorganism and can be degraded totally. It has no any bad effect on environment. Once PVA is dissolved in water, specific microorganism will cause it to degrade. When treated with activated sludge, solutions of PVA will be decomposed into water and carbon dioxide.

Polyvinyl alcohol films is also use to make small dose packaging of detergents, water treatment chemicals, agrochemicals, and dyes. Those small water soluble doses provides ease-of-use and avoid human contact from the inside material.

Water-soluble PVOH film is made from water soluble polymers, having the appearance of a common plastic film. It has unique characteristic of completely dissolving in water at room temperature. The dissolved film disappears in water like sugar or coffee and the ingredients of the film change their appearance but remains present as dissolved solids in water.

The rate of dissolution depends on agitation, water temperature, amount of water and thickness of the film.

The PVOH has proved to be a revolutionary film with its multiple uses which has been acknowledged and hailed by not only satisfied users but also ENVIROMENTAL PROTECTION AGENCY (E.P.A.) strongly recommends in packing agriculture chemicals and pesticides in this water soluble film as it is completely biodegradable and safe for environment and with time to come the use of this film not only going to increase but also indispensable because of its biodegradability, eco-friendly with multiple uses.

Panteco engages every day to provide an efficient, fast and accurate service to the satisfaction of its customer. With our experience we know that today is important to produce a quality product. We choose Italian or European raw material in order to do a product purely MADE IN ITALY. In addition to the quality we keep very punctual delivery.

Printed Water-soluble PVA film can be easily printed without previous surface treatment. It has strong polarity and the excellent printability so as to gravure print is beautifully completed without spark-treatment. Presently it has been widely used in the field of special printing, for example, water transfer printing. Time of dissolution According the time of dissolving, the film has three types, quick, middle, difficult, all depend on its thickness and water temperature. Thicker film makes slow dissolving, high temperature makes fast dissolving. PVA film: Thickness: 15-80 (micron)

LAUNDRIES, HOTELS AND HOSPITALS

Perfect for healthcare, our bags avoid contamination and prevent infections with our

environmentally friendly and hygienic solution to minimize contact between staff and infected

laundry. Isolate, store, transport and clean soiled clothing, uniforms, bed linens, etc. without fear

of airborne bacteria, infectious body fluids or blood-borne pathogens - our bags dissolve

completely and are highly resistant to most organic solvents, greases, fats and oils.

We realize water soluble bags colored and printed. They are produced in several sizes, depending on customer’s requirements.

Water Soluble Laundry Bags are suitable for care institutions and domestic use.

Closed Laundry Bags can be placed directly into the washing machine. During washing, the water

soluble transparent or colored bags dissolve, releasing the contents into the wash.

IN STORAGE: Once a bag is removed from the pack, keep the remaining bags within the over-wrap material to protect against accidental exposure to moisture.

HOW TO USE IT

Handle the bags with dry hands only. Avoid any contact with moisture to preserve the film's strength and integrity. For Hot and Cold water soluble bags, do not place overly wet items in the bag at any time. Remember the bag is sensitive to moisture in any form.

1) The closed water soluble bag should be placed in the wash wheel or tunnel. 2) During the initial cold flush cycle, the bag will open and begin to disintegrate, allowing

contact with the linen by the wash water. FOR COMPLETE LIQUEFACTION OF THE FILM WE URGE THE FOLLOWING: -Do not overload the washer beyond its rated capacity. -Be sure the water temperature reaches at least the appropriate temperature during the wash cycle. -The water should swirl around the bag linens for 40 seconds before the wash chemicals (detergent, alkali, etc.) are injected. Wash for 15 minutes minimum.

BAG FOR INDUSTRIAL LAUNDRIES

Instructions for use:

1. Fill the bag, making sure to avoid a direct contact between particularly wet linen/underwater and the bag’s walls.

2. Close the bag using always the taper supplied, since it dissolves immediately and opens the bag for cold washing of blood.

3. Do nor tie the bag, because the knot would dissolve slowly and the washing would not take

place.

4. Put the bag into the washing-machine.

5. Pre-wash and pre-soak only with water, without detergent.

6. If the linen/underwear is washed for the first time(new garment),, after dying, firstly drain the water because the dye’s additives might delay the bag from dissolving quickly.

7. Let the water reach 60°C and add diluted detergent; by making so, you prevent the bag

becoming insoluble after a direct contact with pure washing powder.

8. Avoid any contact between pure detergent or caustic soda with the bag’s walls, since the parts in question might become insoluble.

9. Keep the bags in their packaging until usage and in a temperature not lower than 5°C.

10. The bags start dissolving between 35 and 40°C and dissolves completely between 65 and

75°C (bags in hot water type K63). It does not leave any waste or jelly in water as long as a direct contact of the kind described above (point 8) is avoided.

ACTIVATED CARBON Activated carbon is used in the treatment of drinking water, domestic and industrial sewage, in bleaching, purification of food and pharmaceutical products. The product is also indicated for the absorption of contaminants contained in the fumes produced by thermal combustion of waste R.S.U and R.S.O. Activated charcoal comes in black powder. The companies that produce it are using our water soluble to package their products. Once unpacked, you need to put it in a big bag of paper ready to be taken in the treatment plants or purifiers. Process: The operator opens the paper bag and throws it directly into the purifier. Activated charcoal has the task of killing the microbes. Once filtered, the water returns into the wells. Our water soluble bags do not pollute the water because they dissolve completely and are totally biodegradable. For more information see video: http://www.comelt.it/ The packs with water soluble bags avoid overdose and the volatility of the material. It mean that our bags not only respect the environmental but also the hygiene and the sensibility of the operator. Uses and dosages: The dosage of the product, dispersed in water, is extremely variable and must be checked from time to time through laboratory tests and/or plant. Packaging and storage: Companies that produce carbon usually delivered it in 20 kg bags of paper containing No. 2 bags of 10 kg in water-soluble material. Store in a dry place at a temperature below 35°C.

AGRICULTURAL FERTILIZER/PESTICIDE

PVA bag has been widely used in the packaging of fertilizers, pesticide, dyestuffs, detergent, water-sewer additives, mineral additives, cement additives, etc, for its biodegradability and water solubility. Pollutive residue will be left in the traditional fertilizer package like plastic bags or fragile glass, PVA bags will be fully biodegradated into water and carbon dioxide as a good replacement package with no pollutive ingredient left.

Seed : Seeds are packaged in tape-shape using water soluble PVA film. Because it germinates at the regular intervals when buried it in earth, the labor of the cull can be saved. It can not only prevent the seeds from being blown away by wind and eaten by animals. But also can keep moisture in the sand. In Normal operation, when the workers use plastic buckets or regular plastic bags, the following problems happen:

1. The used plastic bags become a lot of chemical wastes and large amount disposal cost incurred; 2. It requires large space to place such plastic buckets and large amount of cleaning cost incurred;

The advantage of using water soluble bags:

1. Improve the working environment to be clean and tidy; 2. Reduce the cost of labor and cleaning; 3. Keep secret of dyeing formula; 4. Increase production efficiency by simplifying the process; 5. Suitable for automatic operation process.

The advantages of water soluble packaging include:

User safety for hazardous materials, as many industrial accidents occur during the pouring stage.

Environmental safety is enhanced by eliminating contaminated secondary containers for applications such as agricultural chemicals and medical.

Large cost savings when contaminated containers are regulated with bottle deposits, or collected after usage. The film goes into solution, and the secondary container can be disposed of in the normal waste stream.

CEMENT ADDITIVES Panteco water soluble bags have been widely used in the packaging of cement additives in some western developed countries to avoid environmental pollution. By adding the cement additives directly into the mixing bucket with water soluble packaging, operator will make accurate measurement and the operation simplified. It is safer and more convenient to mix the cement additives without opening its package. Cement additives is of high concentration with the acidity and basicity, which will easily touch the operators' eyes and skin in outdoor use. We suggested to use PVA bag for the packaging of cement additives such as Iron Oxide pigment, Titanian Dioxide( Anatase), Chromium Oxide ect. Using PVA bag for packing will make exact measurement, avoid unsuitable dosage of cement additive. It could be used without open the packing bag, prevent operators from contacting additive directly. It is safer and more convenient.

TEXTILE – EMBROIDERY Our company is producing 2 different revolutionary articles for the world of embroidery: Thermofilm and Watersoluble film. We produce them since a long time and with our patent. Our commercial policy is to distribute these articles only through local distributors and this is the reason of this contact with your Company. With the water-soluble film you have the possibility to create a temporary support for the realisation of embroidery with easy removal of the same. We have a particular type soluble film for this use. You know for sure the advantages of using films like watersoluble or thermomelting instead of “normal” synthetic nonwoven:

- faster cleaning of the embroidered fabric; - better result (no nonwoven residues that you cannot tear off..); - cheaper working.

Furthermore, our watersoluble film is 100% biodegradable and is soluble in cold water (from the tab). For special needs we can also supply films that are soluble in hot water. Thermofilm is needed whenever fabrics don’t need or “like” to be washed. We can say that our technology is the most attractive solution in case of embroideries on stretch fabrics, or fabrics (or threads) made of delicate fibres. Our patent in this article is particularly appreciated, because the melting temperature is the lowest on the market and is compatible with all most delicate fibres, or special applications like sequins. To melt Thermofilm, Panteco is offering a dedicated thermopress. For both articles, Thermofilm and Watersoluble, since Panteco is producer of same, prices, availability, delivery service, technical support, assistance for special problems and/or needs, are particularly interesting and attractive. Measure most popular in the world of embroidery: FILM: Lp.cm 100/30 gr.; Lp.cm 120/50 gr. ; Lp.cm 160/30 gr.; Lp.cm 160/50 gr. THERMOFILM: Lp.cm 60/50 my; Lp.cm 80/50 my; Lp.cm 120/50 my; Lp.cm 120/80 my.

THERMOFILM - by Panteco

Thermofilm is a thermomelting film by Panteco. It is the best alternative to the normal nonwoven backings for embroidery in cases when said nonwovens can put problems in cleaning because of small embroideries, or very light fabrics where tearing off could be risky. Thermofilm is also a very good solution to replace usual backings, even thermomelting or watersoluble, whenever these ones require high temperatures to melt or solve with consequent problems of yellow turning of fabrics and embroideries, or shrinkage. Thermofilm is easy to take off with a heated plate machine that can work with low pressure on the embroidery and with a temperature much lower than other similar products may require, that is to say with temperatures between 120 and 150 °C. Talking about removing of Thermofilm, we have a press that is specially studied for this purpose. Nevertheless it is possible to try with an iron; consequent cleaning of the melted film from the surface of the iron would be suggested. Thermofilm is made according with

- UE 90/128/CEE - D.M. 21/03/73 and followings for Italy.

Use of the heated press 1. The press is fitted with lower hot plate and with a Teflon upper part with soft towel. 2. Before using the press it is necessary to check that lower and upper surfaces can meet

together with a smooth soft pressure (or to adjust the upper part level by mean of the level handle).

3. Switch the machine on and “prepare” the lower plate putting on it 5-6 sheets of Thermofilm, in order to cover the whole area of the plate. Then set the temperature at 125-150 °C max. and close the press waiting for abt 20-25 seconds. Open and check that Thermofilm is regularly melted on the whole surface of the working area (lower plate). When the film will be regularly melted, the press will be ready to work.

4. Adjust pressing time between 5 and 10 seconds depending on weight of the Thermofilm you have to take off and start putting the embroidery with film just on the “prepared” lower heated plate. Make sure that all parts of the embroidery (the film under the embroidery) can stick to the lower plate and close the press. After set working time has expired, open the press and tear the fabric off softly with both hands.

5. The machine is ready for a new operation. 6. After 20-25 cycles (or 40-45 depending on the thickness of the film) check that pressure of the

upper part on the lower heated plate is smooth and, if necessary, adjust level of the upper part by mean of the level handle.

Important:

- If the machine doesn’t reach the correct temperature (as above explained) the film does not melt.

- With too high operating temperature, the film could melt and be absorbed by the fabric. In this case it would be impossible to take it away.

- Operators of the machine should get experienced and learn that every embroidery and/or fabric may require special small adjustments as for temperature and timing.

- Cleaning of the melting surface must be effected with normal working temperature. Use a spatula and wipe away the melted film. Then re-start from point 3 of above instructions.

- For any further information, please contact the supplier of the machine.

DYEING-PLANTS

Our water-soluble bags and films are used to solve pollution environmental problems during the process of handling powder colours or anything similar, particularly for the colours cooking of dyeing-plants, in the printing-works, tanneries, paper-mills, building, wastewater treatment, in agricultural sector and in any companies where there is a daily use of powders in the production cycle.

Furthermore they are mostly used in the industrial laundries, embroideries, sports and in the collection of pet droppings.

All water-soluble bags are supplied with a cold soluble lace, which offers proper closure and at the same time a sudden opening once in contact with water.

Dry cleaner’s (dye powders for textile dyeing, clothing, leathers, from the colours cooking to the dyeing machine). With Panteco bags you can avoid the spread in the air of the particles of powder and the contact between air and dye is minimal. So the dye is prevented from having any changes in the original humidity. In addition, the use of water-soluble bags helps to prevent the problems associated with the volatility of powders, both for the operator and for the goods. With our bags you can avoid special waste of the bag PE otherwise used.

Furthermore please note that the bags can be personalised following the customer-user requirements:

Product: MAVINSOL® HC – ( K63 – K75 – K80 ) – HOT WATER 1) PRODUCT DESCRIPTION: It is flat sheet of biodegradable MAVINSOL® film 25 g/m2 made of thermoplastic hot water soluble polyvinyl alcohol. 2) SPECIFIC PROPERTIES: The physical-mechanical properties of the film depend almost exclusively on those of the MAVINSOL® film whose composition is covered by international patents. 3) MECHANICAL PROPERTIES OF THE MAVINSOL® FILM Since PVOH is a very hygroscopic material, film properties are heavily influenced by temperature and ambient humidity. In the 20° to 40°C range and a RH ranging between 40 and 80% the values are within the following range.

Load at breaking ISO 527 specification at 50 mm/min N/mm2 25-80

Elongation at breaking ISO 527 specification % 100-300

Secant modulus at 10% (stiffness to traction) (load / elongation ratio % )

N/mm2 30.120

Load at breaking and elastic modulus decrease when ambient temperature and humidity increase. 4) SPECIFIC WEIGHT MAVINSOL® film specific weight is 1.25 g/cm2 at 20°C and 50% RH 5) FILM BEHAVIOR IN DIRECT CONTACT WITH WATER At temperatures between +1° and +50°C water does not melt MAVINSOL® HC. It soaks and progressively softens it. At equilibrium point, the film maintains enough mechanical resistance to allow its use as outside wrapping for bags containing water solutions. Between 50°and 80°C the film progressively loses consistence:it deforms quickly turning into a gelified and filamentous mass which becomes a solution completely at approximately 80°C. Once dissolved it remains a solution even after the liquid has cooled down to ambient temperature. 6) FILM WELDABILITY: Since MAVINSOL® is a thermoplastic material, it can be welded onto itself by adding heat.

The strongest and more long lasting welds, even to water, are those made with a hot bar (approximately 200°C) and those made with ultrasonic technology.

Thermal pulse seals give acceptable results only when made in strict observance and tolerance of optimum working conditions. 7) ENVIRONMENTAL BEHAVIOR The MAVINSOL® HC film considered physiologically harmless with a toxicological tolerance on a rat measured as LD50,above 8000 mg/Kg. Furthermore, being made of 96% totally biodegradable organic material,it can be disposed of in biological tanks where it is immediately attacked and disposed of by the bacteria present in the tanks. The remaining 4% is not degradable and is mainly composed of alkaline compounds. According to the most credited technical literature available, polyvinyl alcohol is considered a toxicologically harmless product, virtually inert from an acute toxicological standpoint (LD50) on rats and fish. FDA considers it non irritating if in contact with the skin and mucous membranes and specify possible applications in various market segments under title 21 par.175105-175300-176170-177.1670. PVOH is also included in the CEE 90/128 EEC, Annex II,Sec.B protocol. PVOH is considered highly biodegradable in diluted water solution (0.5-1.5g/l) with C.O.D. (mg.02/g) decreasing from 1700 to less than 200 in 7 days tests according to the Zahn – Welleus test (Chemikerzeitung 98.228/1974). The film Mavinsol® HF film keeps these features pratically unchanged since the components chosen for PVOH thermoplastification are just as acceptable from a toxicological standpoint. When in contact with earth microflora (Pseudonomas SP,BacillusSP,ecc..)biodegradation was more or less high as a function of the specific concentration. Analysis performed on sedimentation processes of household mud and industrial waste disposal, have shown and demonstrated that bacteria can dwell in the product and that therefore in standard conditions obtainable in conventional disposal systems, both for sediment and for activated mud,and that PVOH can be disposed of above 95%. Disposal occurs by biodegradation not by simple biomass absorption. When delivered dissolved it has no influence on the development of earth bacteria population (bacteria, amniolitics, cellulosolitics, azotefixants, nitrosants, ammonizants, etc.)

Product : MAVINSOL® HF – F7 – COLD WATER BIODEGRADABLE WATER SOLUBLE FLAT FILM [POLYVINYL ALCOHOL (PVOH) WATER SOLUBLE FLAT FILM INTENDED FOR: PACKAGING OF PLANT PROTECTION PRODUCTS AND RISK CHEMICAL POWDERS IN ENVIRONMENTAL TERMS, CLOTHES, EMBROIDERY AND DYEING WORKS]

1)GENERAL DESCRIPTION Mavinsol® is the registered trade mark of the thermoplastic water soluble polyvinyl alcohol film produced with Italian technology covered by international patents. The main feature of this new industrial film resides in the conjunction of the known water solubility, atoxicity and biodegradability of biodegradability of polyvinyl alcohol (PVOH) with the mechanical resistance to traction, dimensional stability, machinability remarkably higher than of other water soluble films presently on the market, produced with plasticized PVOH according to the traditional Japanese technology. 2) PHYSICAL – MECHANICAL PROPERTIES The Mavinsol® HF film is a silked flexible translucid flat sheet of pre-set thickness according to the final application in the 15 to 100 micron range. b) DENSITY Approx.1,25 g/cm3 in a dry state c) PERMEABILITY The Mavinsol® HF is highly permeable to water steam but it is an exeptional barrier against any other vapor, natural or artificial gas. 3) MECHANICAL PROPERTIES The typical force-elongation graphs at 23°C e 50% relative humidity, generally used to determine and design the mechanical resistance of most currently used materials have little pratical significance for polyvinyl alcohol products, be it enough to consider its enormous sensitivity to ambient humidity: steam absorption raises from 5 to 25% of its own weight when air relative humidity raises from 50 to 90% at 22°C.Consequently all other mechanical properties change significantly reaching up to tenfold increases in film compliance when an equal load is applied, as a function of humidity and loading time. Due to the difficulty of interpretation and the low pratical significance of traditional tension-elongation graphs,we have opted to evaluate different films in rather unfavorable environmental conditions, though more strictly adhering to the climate present in the Mediterranean area i.e.: - Temperature 22°C – R.H.70 and 85%

In these conditions the following was calculated: - The unit load (tension) causing in one minute an elongation from 8 to 12%,i.e.in an almost elastic state,to determine the E secant modulus at 10% (E 10) as indicator of the film dimensional stability. - The load (tension) causing in 24 hours a 30% deformation only partially recoverable after release,as indicator of the resistance to incipient yield (CSI),i.e. the point beyond which it is not advisable to further stress the material. The results are shown in the following table:

TRACTION CHARACTERISTICS AT 22°C AND HIGH AMBIENT HUMIDITY

FILM E secant modulus at 10% Load borne for 24 hours at 30% THICKNESS elongation (E10)(N/m2) elongation CSI (N/m2) 34µ RH 70% RH 85% RH 70% RH85%

Mavinsol ® HF 80 43 8.5 7-

plasticized PVOH according to the 54 22 5- 1.2 traditional Japanese technology

Remarks : a)Traction is applied in machine direction b)If applied crosswise deformation doubles at equal load. 4. WATER SOLUBILITY: The lowest water temperature to achieve complete dissolution depends on the type of PVOH used and by the temperatures used during film manufacturing. Mavinsol® HF is soluble in cold water as from 5°C. Submerging in water a Mavinsol® HF bag,the material decomposes within 10-30 seconds and dissolves totally within minutes at a speed depending on film thickness,on water temperature and on water stillness. When filtering a water solution containing 2g/l Mavinsol® HF some microgels remain even after film dissolves. These microgels do not create any problems when spraying the solution even through very narrow nozzles (0.3 mm.) being highly deformable gelifield particles which draw and deformate under shear stress developing along the liquid flow lines in the maximum compression area of the sprayer and the nozzle.

5) WELDING: The good dimensional stability of the Mavinsol® HF film, even with high ambient humidity, allows to perform powders packing operations with the standard forming filling and welding equipment used for cellophane-polytene without need for special temperature and humidity controlled areas. Both pulse and hot bar welding technologies are applicable provided some minor modifications already available by most known packing lines manufacturers are implemented in order to guarantee a suitable control of the welding jaws within very narrow limits. Working temperature ranges from 115°to135°C; the exact temperature depending on film thickness and humidity and must be found by trial and error. Once the point is found, it must be maintained within a ± 2°C accuracy at the lowest temperature giving a suitable welding, in order to avoid the random forming of steam bubbles caused by the film absorbing humidity in contact with the working environment. 6) COLOR PRINTING: Mavinsol® HF is very easily printable with any pigment based on highly polarized and acid solvents. The film does not require surface pre-treatments for ink fixation. Flexography is the most reccommended technology. 7) ENVIRONMENTAL BEHAVIOR: According to the most credited technical literature available, polyvinyl alcohol is considered a toxicologically harmless product, virtually inert from an acute toxicological standpoint (LD50) on rats and fish. FDA considers it non irritating if in contact with the skin and mucous membranes and specify possible applications in various market segments under title 21 par.175105- 175300-176170-177.1670. BIODEGRADABILITY TESTS

The biodegradability test was done under aerobic conditions, as suggested by the procedure reported in the ASTM D5209-92:”Test method for Determining Aerobic Biodegradation of Plastic Materials in the Presence of Municipal Sewage Sludge”. This procedure was based on the sturm test, originally proposed for the evaluation of biodegradability of surface-active agents and accepted by CEE ( OECD Test guidelines 301-B,Paris 1981) The same test was introduced into Italian legislation with the D.M. 3.12.1985,regarding the classification and the norms concerning the labelling of dangerous substances. The same procedure was also adopted from the D.M. 7.12.1990,relative to the definition of the biodegradability test of plastic bags for the transportation of goods. In accordance with the procedure described in the ASTM 5209-92 test an apparatus was used composed of a set of 6 flasks connected in parallel to a supply of air without CO2 and containing respectively:a) the sample to test in 3 copies (3 flask T),b)a sample of cellulose used as a reference (flask S) and c) two whites (flask C). The T copies were made up of 27,5 mg. of PVOH polymer, corresponding to a total carbon content (TOC) equal to 14 mg. ; this content is able to produce a maximum total theoretical development of CO2 (ThCO2) of 51,3 mg. Comparable values of TOC and ThCO2 were obtained from a sample of powder cellulose (35 mg.) supplied by Sigma under the trading name of Sigma Cell-100. All the flasks (T,S and C) were filled with 60 ml.of a defined mineral substratum, having the following composition per litre of solution in bidistilled water: K2HPO4 43,5 mg ; KH2PO4 17,00 mg ;Na2HPO4 37,5 mg ; NH4C1 3,4 mg ; (NH4)2SO4 40,0 mg ; MgSO4 7H2O 22,5 mg ; CaC12 27,5 mg ; initial pH 7± 0,1. The flasks were inoculated with 0,6 ml (1% in volume) of a mud sample coming from a paper mill purification plant. The development of carbon dioxide of each culture was then monitored through back titration of solutions of Ba(OH)2(0,025N) with HC1 (0,05N) using phenolphthalein as an indicator. The determinations were carried out directly in the absorbers placed at the exit of the flasks at intervals of 48-72 hours. After 57 days of incubation at room temperature,it was possible to see an average biodegradation of 71% for the PVOH sample compared to a value of 97% for the reference cellulose sample. The biodegradation curves regarding the PVOH sample and the cellulose samples are shown in figure 1, on the following page:
