2 CAUTIONS FOR USING NETWORK APPLICATION FUNCTION The Internet Facsimile function performs transmission and receipt of data via a mail server. It does not directly communicate with a destination. The transmission is treated as completed upon termination of the communication with the server. If transmission of a message fails due to some problem between the main server and the destination, an error mail will be sent from the server. An error mail may not be sent due to some problem. If a secure transmission is required, make sure that the message is received via a phone call. Because communication via the Internet/Intranet provides low security, we recommend you to transmit important documents via a general subscriber line. A telephone call via the LAN is not available. Depending on congestion of the Internet/Intranet lines, it may take some time for a message to be transmitted. If you send many pages or large image data, transmission may not be available depending on the capacity of the mail servers used for transmitting the data. The LDAP search function may be restricted depending on the server environment used. 3 FUNCTIONS NOT AVAILABLE WITH NETWORK APPLICATION FUNCTION The following functions are available in normal facsimile communications but not in Network Application Function. Batch transmission Polling transmission Real-Time transmission Confidential transmission Remote copying Bulletin board registration On-hook Remote retrieval of bulletin board Password transmission Non-reduction mode Note Confidential transmission, password transmission, and remote copying can be specified in operation, but they will not function if the destination is an Internet Facsimile destination. The following functions can also be used for Network Application Kit Function. Image quality specification Density specification Scan area specification 2-in-1 2-sided transmission TX marker stamp (optional) TSI (*) Dest. Insert & TSI (*) Forward the received facsimile documents (Document Management) Forward the transmitted facsimile documents (Document Management) Priority transmission Timer transmission Rotation transmission (*) Note (*) This function can also be used for Internet FAX (E-mail), Internet FAX (IP-TX), Internet FAX (IP Relay), PCFAX, and SIP-FAX. However, the Internet FAX (IP-TX), SIP-FAX, and the Internet FAX (E-mail) (When you specify 600dpi) cannot Rotation transmission. Dest. Insert & TSI cannot be used by PC-FAX.

4 CAUTIONS FOR USING IP SCANNER When the dial-up router is used When you use IP Scanner, set the IP address of the main unit correctly. If you use IP Scanner in an environment where the dial-up router is used, special care must be taken. If a wrong IP address is set in the environment where the dial-up router is used, the dial-up router may perform unnecessary dial-up. For some network setting of your PC, the dial-up router may perform unnecessarily the dial-up even if the IP address is set correctly. When a modem or a terminal adapter is used If a personal computer equipped with a modem or connected to a terminal adapter is used, dial up program may start. To avoid this, set the Dial-up Settings to Never dial a connection or Dial whenever a network connection is not present on the Connections sheet of the Internet Option property sheet by opening the Control Panel (Internet Explorer 4.0 or later). For details, see your Users Manual of Microsoft Windows Operation System. 5 CAUTIONS FOR USING SIP-FAX FUNCTION The following functions can be specified with the SIP-FAX Function. Priority Transmission Timer Transmission 2in1 Transmission 2-sided Transmission TX Marker Stamp Transmission TSI Result Report Note The SIP-FAX destination number can be up to 32 digits. (restriction item for SIP server) Consider this when registering One-touch dialing numbers. For machines equipped with a 2nd G3 port, you cannot connect and use two SIP-FAX Adaptors. You can use only one line. Also, specify the port for FAX over IP transmission and G3FAX transmission via SIP-FAX Adaptor. (since factory default setting for PSTN line selection is Auto)
