tion efforts — — are a logical step

toward meeting the business objectives for change.

An example, as noted in “Autotrader’s Car Buyer of the Future” study, released in 2015, “By mod-

ernizing with Red Hat CloudForms, Red Hat Enterprise Linux®, and Red Hat Virtualization, Cox

Automotive saved nearly 10 years in developer wait time and cut the time to receive IT resources to

under 15 minutes.”

ACCELERATED APPLICATION DEVELOPMENT

Organizations that want to enable enhanced customer experiences need a more agile infrastructure

to host rapid application development and improve service delivery. Intel and Red Hat — with perfor-

mance-tuned Intel® Xeon® processor hardware and software based on open standards — offer interop-

erable infrastructure components well suited for the design, development, and deployment of new

products and services.

Through the advances available with a modernized IT infrastructure, organizations can automate

application deployment. Processes that formerly took months to develop and deploy can often be

launched in just a few hours. Tools that provide centralized management of the virtualized infra-

structure make it easy to evaluate and balance resources, as well as to control provisioning in

response to varying workload demands.

FAST PATH TO STREAMLINED SOLUTIONS

A key aspect of the streamlined and automated approach is easy access to the infrastructure for

virtual environments, private clouds, public clouds, and containers enabling single-point control

over complex hybrid IT. This offers an incremental step from traditional virtualization to provide

self-service, automated provisioning and policy controls. CloudForms creates a management bridge

A financial summary of three-year risk-adjusted results for a large US software company determined

that deploying and using Red Hat CloudForms achieved a 97 percent return-on-investment, a net

present value of $5.95 million, and a payback period of 6.8 months.1

Automation of workflow processes based on company policies, another characteristic of this com-

puting architecture, adds to operational efficiency and simplified management tasks. Ansible and

Ansible Tower by Red Hat provides simple, agentless IT automation technology that can improve

current processes. With these automation tools, IT professionals can connect with Red Hat Satellite

to provision and configure systems, manage and upgrade an OpenStack cloud, deploy JBOSS prod-

ucts across a range of different infrastructures, and perform baselining and management of an

existing Red Hat Enterprise Linux environment or heterogeneous virtual environments. All of these

tasks contribute to substantially improved efficiency across the infrastructure.

INTEL AND RED HAT COLLABORATIVE MILESTONES

An Intel architecture-based infrastructure provides the building blocks and framework for IT mod-

ernization and serves as an ideal platform to support the advanced technologies needed to deliver

applications and services securely and more rapidly. To support software-defined networking (SDN)

and network functions virtualization (NFV), the Intel® Open Network Platform (Intel® ONP) provides

a blueprint for building a flexible, scalable infrastructure. Red Hat collaboration with Intel has helped

ensure that pilot projects and commercial deployments of SDN/NFV-based architectures perform

optimally in the field and function reliably long term. Improved interoperability is also one of the key

objectives of this collaborative work and numerous projects and deployments confirm the reliability

and effectiveness of this architecture.

Ongoing partnering between Red Hat and Intel has led to other improvements to IT infrastructures

and cloud security as well. For example, Intel® Trusted Execution Technology — a layered security

approach grounded in a hardware root of trust — is integrated across the entire software stack, pro-

viding an exceptionally safe and secure cloud infrastructure. Accelerated data encryption/decryp-

tion based on Intel AES-NI protects data and privacy. Solutions co-engineered by Red Hat and Intel

support a unified approach to the IT environment, using the same platforms, tools, and skills, for

easier development and simplified management. Ultimately, the collaborative work between Red Hat

and Intel has made it possible to rapidly set up and provision resources and develop innovative appli-

cations and services in a competitive way that opens many paths to IT modernization.
