• 1980s : Need of ITIL emergedEstablished earliest version of ITIL called GITIM (Government Information Technology Infrastructure Management)

• 1990s : Used in both government and non-government

• 2000: Microsoft used ITIL to develop MicrosoftOperations Framework (MOF)

• 2001: Version 2 of ITIL released• 2007: Version 3 of ITIL released
