KNOWLEDGE ENRICHMENT

AMAZING FACT WITH PYTHON PROGRAMMING

There is actually a poem written by Tim Peters named as THE ZEN OF PYTHON which can

be read by just writing import this in the interpreter.

# Try this

import this

Output:

>>> import this

The Zen of Python, by Tim Peters

Beautiful is better than ugly.

Explicit is better than implicit.

Simple is better than complex.

Complex is better than complicated.

Flat is better than nested.

Sparse is better than dense.

Readability counts.

Special cases aren't special enough to break the rules.

Although practicality beats purity.

Errors should never pass silently.

Unless explicitly silenced.

In the face of ambiguity, refuse the temptation to guess.

There should be one-- and preferably only one --obvious way to do it.

Although that way may not be obvious at first unless you're Dutch.

Now is better than never.

Although never is often better than *right* now.

If the implementation is hard to explain, it's a bad idea.

If the implementation is easy to explain, it may be a good idea.

Namespaces are one honking great idea -- let's do more of those!

CHINESE REMAINDER THEOREM

A Mini Correlation with the Traditional Broken Eggs Problem

According to D. Wells, the following problem was posed by Sun Tsu Suan-Ching (4th

century AD):

There are certain things whose number is unknown. Repeatedly divided by 3, the remainder

is 2; by 5 the remainder is 3; and by 7 the remainder is 2. What will be the number?

Oystein Ore mentions another puzzle with a dramatic element from Brahma-Sphuta-

Siddhanta (Brahma's Correct System) by Brahmagupta (born 598 AD):

An old woman goes to market and a horse steps on her basket and crashes the eggs. The rider

offers to pay for the damages and asks her how many eggs she had brought. She does not

remember the exact number, but when she had taken them out two at a time, there was one

egg left. The same happened when she picked them out three, four, five, and six at a time, but

when she took them seven at a time they came out even. What is the smallest number of eggs

she could have had?

Problems of this kind are all examples of what universally became known as the Chinese

Remainder Theorem

TATA CONSULTANCY SERVICES

Tata Group History

The foundation of the TATA group was laid by Jamsetji Nusserwanji Tata in 1868,

exactly 100 years before TCS was founded.

In 1938, JRD Tata was appointed as the chairman who led the TATA Group for next

his stewardship, Tata tea acquired Tetley, Tata Motors acquired Jaguar Land Rover

and Tata Steel acquired Corus, which have turned the TATA Group from a largely

India-centric company into global business. Ratan Tata retired from all executive

responsibility in the TATA Group in December 2012 and he is succeeded by Cyrus

Mistry. The present chairman is N Chandrasekharan, and he took over the

INTERNET OF THINGS

The Internet of things (IoT) is the network of physical devices, vehicles, home appliances

and other items embedded with electronics, software, sensors, actuators, and connectivity

which enables these objects to connect and exchange data. Each thing is uniquely identifiable

through its embedded computing system but is able to inter-operate within the

existing Internet infrastructure. Experts estimate that the IoT will consist of about 30 billion

objects by 2020. It is also estimated that the global market value of IoT will reach $7.1

trillion by 2020.

The IoT allows objects to be sensed or controlled remotely across existing network

infrastructure, creating opportunities for more direct integration of the physical world into

computer-based systems, and resulting in improved efficiency, accuracy and economic

benefit in addition to reduced human intervention. When IoT is augmented with sensors and

actuators, the technology becomes an instance of the more general class of cyber-physical

systems, which also encompasses technologies such as smart grids, virtual power

plants, smart homes, intelligent transportation and smart cities.
