Front End

It is the end that interacts with user and collects the input from the user.

Back End

It is the end that is not visible but that processes the user requests as received from the front end.

Conceptual Data Modeling

A model is an abstraction of a design that allows you to focus on big picture of a design without getting down in the details. Conceptual model is prepared keeping the view of the client. Techniques used to develop it are :

Logical Data Modeling

It represents the relational schema that will eventually be converted and stored in the database.

Physical Refinement

Once you have a relational schema, there are still a number of RDMS specific refinements that need to be considered such as : performance and implementation of some business rules. After these physical refinements, physical schema of the database is ready.

Physical schema is converted in the form of database objects such as tables, clusters, indexes etc. and database is actually installed ion the system.
