Directors Update

The first meeting of the year for the Directors involved a discussion on getting

funding for the club and how we are anticipating to grow as a club. With Carnegie

going BBL, we know how important it is to work even harder to keep new members

coming. Claude has established a Central Venue League for high schools and

primary schools across Leeds where the winners will compete for a champion’s

trophy at DYCA.

The second meeting of 2014 was about how to develop a coaching program for

coaches. We want to see a structured transition for players when they progress to

senior positions within the club. We want to develop strength and conditioning

programs in the summer for the U16s to prepare for U18s next season.

Leeds Tigers V Spen

Valley

Win - 63-52

Tigers lead Spen Valley

right from the start. But

after gaining a quick head

start, Tigers failed to pull

away by any more and

made a game out of it for

4th quarter.

Emmanuel Dore

Williams led all the

scoring with 14 points and

gave Tigers a boost to see

the game through to the

end.

Leeds League

January

Harrogate V Leeds

Tigers

Win - 70-64

Tigers travelled to

Harrogate for a fierce

head to head. A win

against Harrogate would

put them in the perfect

spot to finish the season at

the top of the league.

With this in mind Tigers

went out with something

to prove and Harrogate

put up a big fight but in

the end Tigers won.

Leeds Lithuanians v

Leeds Tigers

Win 54-49

Tigers travelled away to

the Lithuanians with 10

players and struggled

throughout. They won the

game through tough

defence from Lwasi

Ndlovu and Neil

Hennigan to seal the win.

However throughout the

game the points weren’t

dropping.

Leeds Tigers V Bradford Lithuanians Handicap

Cup (second round)

Win - 101-84

Tigers entered this game expecting a tough match as

the Bradford Lithuanians team are 3rd place in the

division above, although they had the comfort

knowing that Tigers get 1 point extra for each basket.

The Lithuanians put up a great fight.

Tigers struggled in the first quarter to get used to the

new intensity and let the Lithuanians get a 10 point

start. But Coach Cleeve called a timeout, rallied the

troops and Tigers brought the game back with the help

of the 1 point per basket advantage. Tigers had a 25

point lead on the Lithuanians in the 3rd quarter. But

the Lithuanians fought back but to no avail as they

couldn’t make a scratch on Tigers with the handicap in

place. Delight Mukaro led the team in scoring with

his three point shooting display getting 17 points.

Leeds Tigers V

Horsforth hustlers

Win - 68-54

This was a comfortable

win for Tigers against

bottom of the table

Hustlers with a great

performance by Jacob

Smith.

Leeds Tigers V Bradford

Maroons Handicap Cup

(Quarter Final)

Win - 84-82 This was Leeds Tigers toughest game of the

season against Maroons who are undefeated in their lower division.

Because of this, Maroons got one extra point per basket. Tigers brought out their strongest side to play Maroons and with Maroon’s advantage, they kept the game tight throughout. It came down to the wire in the 4th quarter with Maroons hitting free throws to tie the game with 33 seconds. Delight Mukaro timed his offence with a 2 man game with Lwazi Ndlovu's shot missing, but Jonathan Broodie picked up the rebound and scored to put Tigers up by 2 points with only a few seconds to spare. Maroons failed to score.

MVP Lwazi Ndlovu 20 points 13 rebounds and Jonathan Broodie 18 points and the game winner

Rotherham Hawks v Leeds

Tigers

Tigers returned from the

Christmas break with an away trip

to Rotherham. This side was in

the mid-table position so a close

game was expected. Tigers

fought hard to compete with

Hawks and trailed 15-12 at the

end of the first and 35 - 28 at half

time. The second half saw a

disappointing performance and the

Tigers lost 73 - 50 as only 11

points were scored at the end of

the third and fourth quarters.

January

Leeds Tigers v Gateshead Phoenix. With a hat-trick of

defeats, Tigers had ended

any chance of play-offs.

Confidence needed to be

restored, however, their next

opponents were second

placed Phoenix, who had

inflicted Tigers' first defeat

of the season. Tigers played

a tough defence but failed to

convert their chances and

trailed 17 - 22 at the end of

the half. However the

second half saw a strong and

determined Tigers

performance, with Robbie

Cumming getting 2 three-

pointers and top scored with

Leeds Tigers v Bradford

Dragons

This was expected to be a

tough game for Tigers as

they faced the in-form

second placed Dragons. The

first quarter ended with a 17

point lead for the Dragons

and by the end of the 1st

half, the game looked like it

was over with Dragons

taking an 18 - 44 lead.

Jamal Gatewood lead a

revival with one three

pointer as he lead the scoring

with 14 points. However his

performance was marred by

travelling and losing the ball

resulting in 9 turnovers.

Tigers took the 3rd quarter

13 - 08. Eventually Dragons

ended any hope of a

comeback, taking the game

49 - 83.

York Eagles v Leeds Tigers

A very poor start in the first

quarter meant that the Tigers

were chasing the game

throughout. The first quarter

saw Tigers score only 3

points. But the second

quarter

21 points. Tigers doubled

Phoenix's points in the third

and won the game 57 - 48.

U15 player Max Ngoji got 7

rebounds and Dennis

Amofah achieved 5 assists.

Bradford Dragons v Leeds

Tigers. Having suffered a

heavy defeat to Bradford,

Tigers faced them again to

try and restore some pride

against the league leaders.

Tigers fought hard in the

first half and kept it to within

8 points as they trailed 31 -

23. Unfortunately the third

quarter saw Dragons

dominate and dented any

chance of a comeback as

they won 71 - 54.

Hull Wasps v Leeds Tigers.

A few days rest and Tigers

were on the road again to

Hull. A high scoring first

quarter saw both sides not

defending well as the scores

remained close at the half -

33 - 35. But an impressive

offence and some neat and

tidy defending saw the

Tigers lead 43 - 56. Tigers

achieved another win against

Hull Wasps as the scores

ended 61 - 72.

ADVERTISE HERE!!!!

Claude has been working very hard to set up a

Central Venue League with schools across Leeds.

The idea is to have an Eastern and Western

Conference of Primary/High schools competing

against each other, after receiving 3 training

sessions delivered by our coaches/players. In a

round-robin style tournament, the top 2 teams in

each conference face each other at DYCA for the

title. This will be an opportunity for some of the

players to obtain a scholarship

like to wish Jarryd Moss a safe travel back to

Australia and lots of good luck at your season

with Energy and hopefully see you next

winter.
