Massive rally commemorates Hamas anniversary and first

Intifada

08/12/2012

A massive rally has been held in Gaza City to

commemorate the 25th anniversary of the

founding of Hamas and the start of the first

Intifada (Palestinian uprising) in 1987.

Hundreds of thousands braved strong winds

and rain to attend. Those in attendance

included solidarity campaigners from around

the world.

The event coincided with the first visit to Gaza

of the head of the Political Bureau of the

Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas),

Khaled Meshaal. It was his first time on

Palestinian soil for more than 40 years. Joining

him on the platform was his deputy, Moussa

Abu Marzouk and the elected Prime Minister

in Gaza, Ismail Haniyeh.

Khaled Meshaal assured the crowd that the

movement will not give up "one inch" of

historic Palestine, "from the sea to the River

Jordan, from north to south". He called for the

factions to reconcile their differences and

come together for the cause.

More than 3000 international delegates from

Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Lebanon, Jordan,

Malaysia, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, Turkey,

Algeria, Egypt and Europe flocked into the

Gaza strip to attend the celebration and listen

to a keynote speech by its political leader

Khaled Mishaal. The delegations include

scholars, journalists, politicians, public

opinion leaders and peace activists.

London and Paris consider

withdrawal of ambassadors to

Tel Aviv

06/12/2012

Hebrew media sources have confirmed that

Britain and France are looking into the

possibility of withdrawing their ambassadors

to Israel, among other steps, in protest against

its decision to build 3,000 new settlement units

in the occupied West Bank and East

Jerusalem.

According to Haaretz newspaper, Britain and

France are concerned about the ongoing

construction and expansion of settlements in

the Occupied Palestinian Territories. Both

consider the latest announcement to be "a slap

in their faces and a crossing of the red lines",

not least because of the support given to Israel

by Paris and London during the former's recent

offensive against the Gaza Strip.

One European diplomat suggested that the

protests would include distinguishing Jewish

settlement-produced goods from Israeli

produce in British and French markets by

labelling them distinctively. Goods produced

on illegal settlements are themselves

considered to be illegal. Escalating trade,

culture and academic boycott campaigns

would also impose additional sanctions on

settlers.

Later on, Australia, Sweden, Denmark and

Italy have also summoned the Israeli

ambassadors to their countries to convey their

protest against the Israel settlement plan in

west bank.

The Israeli government decided to ratify a plan

to build 3,000 new settlement units in the area

between the huge Maale Adumim settlement

bloc in the West Bank and occupied East

Jerusalem. It would cut the West Bank in half

and isolate Jerusalem from its Palestinian

hinterland.

Jewish settlers vandalize Islamic and Christian sites in Jerusalem

12/12/2012

More than 70 Jewish settlers broke into the

sacred courtyard of Al-Aqsa Mosque on

Wednesday morning, performing Talmudic

rituals and writing racist phrases on the walls

before they left. According to Al-Aqsa

Association for Religious Endowments and

Heritage, clashes erupted between the Jews

and Muslim worshippers who tried to stop

them.

The Association also noted that settlers

slashed the tyres on three cars and wrote

slogans insulting Jesus Christ on the walls of

Al-Mosalabeh Monastery in Jerusalem. The

monastery has been attacked several times this

year, as has Al-Aqsa Mosque.

The Islamic-Christian Commission for

Protecting Jerusalem and Holy Sites

condemned the settlers' attacks on Islamic and

Christian sites. The Commission called for the

continuous violations by the Israeli settlers

against places of worship such as mosques,

churches and monasteries to be stopped.

Commenting on the timing of the attacks, Isa

said: "The Israeli authorities allow the settlers

to act in a way that hurts Christians in the run-

up to Christmas. This is unbelievable

extremism and racism."

Israeli soldier kills teenager on his 17th

birthday

12/12/2012

“Mohammad Salayme”, 17, was shot dead on

Wednesday evening by an Israeli female

soldier near to the Abraham mosque in Hebron

city. Mohammad had spent the day in school

and was on his way to buy some cake for his

family to celebrate his 17th birthday, when

suddenly his life was cut short.

The Israeli military claimed Mohammad

Salayme was carrying a fake gun, therefore

shot him. Mohammad’s father who rushed to

administer first aid to his son said he saw no

fake gun on him. Sound bombs, tear gas and

rubber bullets were fired at Palestinians who

tried to help the dying teenager.

The Israeli military closed off all the streets

around the area where Mohammed was killed

to prevent any journalists from reaching the

incident’s place. A press car carrying four

journalists was hit with several rounds of live

ammunition and their cameras were

confiscated.

After the shooting, dozens of Palestinians

began protesting in the Old City, with Israeli

forces used tear gas and live ammunition to

quell the demonstrations.

Sharawna

12/12/2012

The families of the two strikers Ayman Sharawna and

Samer al-Issawi called on the official and popular

parties to move urgently to save the lives of their two

sons "before it is too late", while criticizing the lack of

solidarity events with the striking prisoners in Israeli

jails.

condition of his son Samer is very bad, where he was

recently transferred to Assaf Harovih Israeli hospital

after sharp deterioration in his health, adding that his

The occupation puts 10-year-

old child on trial

17/12/2012

The occupation authorities have transferred today two

children from the village of Kafr Dan west of Jenin, to a

military Court for trial, to join dozens of other

Palestinian children held in the Israeli occupation jails.

The family of the two detained children appealed to

human rights organizations and to the international

movement for the defense of children to immediately

intervene and release the children.

According to a press statement issued by the family, the

detention of Ihsan Abed (10 years) and his brother

Ayman Rajeh Abed (12 years), who had been held in

Megiddo Prison, was extended by the occupation

authorities that have transferred them to the military

court on Thursday, under false and flimsy pretexts

For its part, the international movement for the defense

of children said that hundreds of Palestinian children,

under the age of 18, are held in the Israeli occupation

prisons, and are exposed to different forms of torture.

Israeli Foreign Minister

Lieberman resigns over fraud

charges

14/12/2012

Less than a day after insisting that he would

not step down as Israel's Foreign Minister in

the face of indictments for fraud and breaches

of public trust, Avigdor Lieberman has

resigned. A statement from the extreme right-

winger said that he had left his ministerial post

as well as his position as deputy prime

minister even though he knows that he "has

committed no crime" and despite his lawyer

insisting that he did not have to resign in such

a case. Lieberman said that he hopes that he

will be cleared of all charges before the

January General Election.

Investigations into Lieberman's activities

began in 2001 and spanned nine countries. The

most serious allegations included money

laundering and bribery. The Attorney General

said there was no chance of a conviction on

the more serious charges - yet.

Israel's Justice Ministry said on Thursday it

would charge Lieberman over alleged

irregularities tied to the promotion of an Israeli

diplomat who had leaked him privileged

information about a police probe into his

activities.

Avigdor Lieberman is not the first senior

Israeli politician to face corruption charges.

Former Prime Minister Ehud Olmert resigned

in 2008 after being indicted for corruption.

Hamas PM: Najib expresses wish to visit Gaza

11/12/2012

Hamas Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh said

Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib

Tun Razak had expressed his wish to visit

Gaza next year.

He said Najib told him this after he phoned

Najib on Tuesday to thank him for the aid

from the government and people of Malaysia

for Palestine, and he also extended his

personal invitation to Najib to visit Gaza.

"I personally invited him and hope for an

immediate visit from the prime minister of

Malaysia. He also stated that he would surely

visit Gaza," he said when receiving a courtesy

visit from the 1Malaysia Putera Club volunteer

group (KP1M), here.

The meeting was held at a small hall on the

fringes of Gaza beach, after his original office

was destroyed during the eight days of shelling

by the Israeli military on Gaza last month.

Haniyeh, in his speech also expressed his pride

in seeing the Malaysian flag waving together

with that of Palestine on the occasion of the

25th Hamas Anniversary recently.

"This shows the very close relations between

Malaysia and Palestine. It is not strange as this

relation has been built for so long. We are

proud because Malaysia makes the Palestinian

issue as a major issue in the country," he said.

“Mishaal” draws the liberation map for the Palestinians

By: Mo’men Bseiso / Aljazeera

Whatever were the political analyses to

Mishaal’s visit to Gaza, this visit has initiated

a new stage for the struggle of the Palestinians,

their national cause and their conflict with the

Israeli occupation. That was practically

translated through the comprehensive historic

speech delivered by Mishaal to hundreds of

thousands of Palestinians in the Gaza city who

gathered to celebrate the Hamas 25th

anniversary, added to his meetings with all the

Palestinian factions and civil society

organizations which truly form a real

liberation map and a perfect constitution for

the Palestinian people and their national and

Islamic factions throughout the coming stage.

Laying out the policies and stances

The first landmark in Mishaal’s map was

represented by gathering the Palestinian

people and factions on the adherence to the

Palestinian national rights and constants

without any abandonment or detraction,

considering that as the solid ground towards

liberation and as the basic foundation that the

Palestinian national project lies on.

Palestinian reconciliation as a priority

Mishaal realizes that any reform of the internal

Palestinian situation towards building a

comprehensive national strategy that leads to

liberation should begin with achieving a real

reconciliation and ending the Palestinian

division.

Mishaal’s visit to Gaza, his meetings with all

factions and his deep speech and statements

have all targeted facilitating the way for the

Palestinian reconciliation process to take place

and ending all the obstacles and difficulties

confronting it. He drew a road map for the

Palestinian factions showing the mechanisms

of achieving the reconciliation and regaining

the internal conciliation, starting with

providing a suitable atmosphere by ending the

ruction language in media, remembering the

culture of understanding and tolerance and

laying out the necessary bases to achieve the

reconciliation based on right foundations to

overcome the past gaps and mistakes.

The political and national options

The third landmark in Mishaal’s map was

filtering the Palestinian political and national

options that were mixed up during the past

stage following the Oslo agreement in 1993.

Mishaal statements regarding the “liberation

before the state” has returned the soul again

into the body of the Palestinian national

project and corrected the strategic

misconceptions. Where he tried to reformulate

the duties of the PA away from serving the

ARTICLES & ANALYSIS

occupation through security coordination

towards serving the national interest of the

Palestinian people and their national cause.

Besides, reforming the Palestinian Liberation

Organization (PLO) to represent all the

Palestinians in order to achieve a real national

partnership.

Mishaal believes that achieving the Palestinian

reconciliation and the national partnership will

bring the Palestinians closer to each others,

and will bring the PA away from the Israelis,

considering the fact that the Palestinian-Israeli

relations are tensioned after the achieved step

in the UN, the refusal of unconditioned

negotiation by “Abu Mazen” and threatening

the Israelis to bring the settlement issue to the

international court if the settlement procedures

have been continued.

Managing the conflict with the occupation

The fourth landmark in Mishaal’s map was

represented in laying out a strategic vision to

manage the conflict with the Israeli occupation

and to stop using random means and imposing

personal convictions and agenda rather than a

national agenda in the battle with the

occupation. These statements were said in the

right time after the great victory of the

resistance against the occupation in the last

war on Gaza, besides the diplomatic

achievement in the UN.

In his speech, Mishaal was trying to gather the

Palestinian national row on one vision to

manage the conflict with the occupation

politically and militarily. Where any vision

should gain a full Palestinian consensus, open

all options to confront the occupation, carry

out collective and effective moves at the

regional and international levels, choose to

quiet or escalate the resistance and choose the

means and forms of the struggle that suits the

nature of the stage and the higher Palestinian

interest.

A message to the regional neighboring and

international community

The fifth and last landmark in Mishaal’s map

was represented in a message to the regional

neighboring and international community.

In his message to the regional neighboring,

Mishaal has stressed on the importance of the

Arabic and Islamic role as a strategic

dimension to the Palestinian people and their

national cause, where he hinted to the great

support to Gaza during the 8-days war and the

level of the official Arabic and Islamic

interaction which was missing during the past

decades due to the dictatorships dominating

the region.

Mishaal’s message to the international

community aimed at creating a breakthrough

in the international position towards the

conflict with the Israeli occupation relying on

the Palestinian militant and political success

and the failure of the isolation policy that was

imposed on Hamas.
