ver since the very first ever issue of FlightSim magazine we have featured Captain Sim’s amazing add-ons in our publication. In fact the Captain Sim 777 was the first add-on to ever be featured on the cover of an issue of FlightSim Magazine. The Captain Sim 777 was also the first add-on to ever have been awarded the “True Aviator Award” which we give out exclusively to add-ons that far exceed our expectations and pass what we call “the real-world test” where we bring in a pilotwho flys said aircraft in real life and he gives the add-on his thumbs up of approval.

First we’ll kick this review, the first review in of FlightSim Magazines second year as a publication, and also one of the last reviews of FlightSim Magazines first year, we’re going to review one of my favourite parts. The Exterior.

The modelling that the team over at Captain Sim has done on this aircraftis absolutely amazing. As with any Captain Sim product the L-1001-1’s exterior is one of the most complete of any in the industry. Featuring every working part you could possibly dream up, and textured to perfection.

The interior. The interior of Captain Sim’s L-1001-1 is also of top-quality, and I beleive that it really deserves to be pointed out just how well Captain Sim did the 3d modelling on this add-on, not only on the interior but everywhere all-around. As far as looks go the Captain Sim can’t be beat, both the tex-turing and the modelling on this add-on are great both inside and out. As far as I’m concerned this is the definative best model of the L-1001-1 for flight simulator that is currently available on the market.

To conclude I must say that as far as looks go and flight dynamics the Captain Sim L-1001-1 is amazing, however to be honest the flyability of the thing just isn’t really there and many of the switches in the virtual cockpit don’t work. It’s certainly a great add-on though and if your a fan of the L-1001-1 I’d be sure to take a look at this one!

Carenado products first appeared in FlightSim Magazine in issue number 1when we had the honour of reviewingtheir representation of the Cessna206H Stationair. Overall the aircraftflew really well, and it lookedabsolutely amazing, inside and out! The add-on had a little lessFPS when you where using the exterior “spot” or “locked spot”view, but it was still a verypleasant little add-on to flyaround fsx in, and by far the best 206 for any flight simulator I personally have ever seen, from any publisher.

Carenado’s Phenom 100 is no different, it’s amazingto fly and looks absolutely amazing inside and out, it’s their first jet (to my knowledge)and trust me when I saythat you’d never knowby flying it! Carenado

First stop, the exterior! There are so many little hatches and doors on this add-on it’s insane, and really adds to the fun and realism when your out flying it. As always with a Carenado add-on the texture work is amazinge, and with this add-onthe sounds are great on the exterior too!

The interior. The interior. My personal favourite part of any flight simulator add-on, this is what makes or brakes the realism of an add-on, one of the most important parts of any aircraft, second only to the way it flys, and believe me when I tell you that you won’t be dissapointed with this little add-on. Absolutely grade A in my books, everything is 3dmodelled and most everything, if not everythingworks. I set out thinking I was only going to flythis thing the standard 4 hours to test it, but instead found myself logging over 100 in a week!

In my time flying it I was extremely pleased with Carenado’s Phenom 100, it was both a true ‘complex simulation’ with everything as realistic as possible, while at the same time being just a fun and easy-going add-on that’s great to just fly around sight seeing in, a truly versatile little plane!

We recently discoverered an amazing little story of a flight simulation company that we tought was worth sharing, mostly as an inspiration story. Currently NE-Leasing offers many diverse solutions to virtual airlines such as fleet painting, webhosting and graphics design, they have served hundreds of virtual airlines over the years...

“At NE Leasing we really know how to treat a virtual airline customer. After all, we started out as a virtual airline ourselves! Many wonder why we have the word “Leasing” in our name, and no it’s not because we offer a service called “virtual aircraft leasing”, that’s just a catchy name we’ve added to our re-paint-ing service. The real reason that we are called “NE-Leasing” is because way back when we first started in 2006 we were originally a virtual airline that “of-fered our services” to virtual airlines who needed certain aircraft to fly routes for charters, or needed a few extra pilots for the short term, these services helped to increase the realism of there virtual operations.”

“After about 2 years of serving the virtual airline community in this way, we decided we could add a new service to the NE outfit. This service was a free aircraft re-painting service in which we did fs-paints for virtual airlines on select add-ons free of charge on the condition that the tail said “NE Leasing” on it in rather large text, a little like our “leasing plan” today. This service really “took-off ” and we were able to really get our name around the commu-nity, the only problem being the high cost to operate the service with absolutey no monetary reward. This led to the addition of several other services to the NE outfit, including webdesign, webhosting for va’s, and graphics design all offered for a small fee (aircraft paints were still free). As times changed and NE grew we eventually outgrew our server(s) and were forced to make a switch which ended up costing much more than we had anticipated, this led to what seemed to be the ultimate destruction of NE Leasing. With our servers swamped, and our website going on and off-line constantly we were forced to close the doors (so it seemed for good). We passed all of our current webhosting customers off to another host and ceased to offer all services.”

“After being off-line for almost a year it was decided by 2 enthusiastic graphic designers that NE would eventually fly again. After gaining permission from the original owners to use the name the 2 graphic designers set out on a mission to re-launch both the graphic design service and the webhosting service to the public, only to find that the costs were much too high. They eventually decided that the costs were too high and they took down the website and ceased services once again.

It wasn’t until 3 months after that the original owners of the virtual airline NE Leasing got together and relaunched NE Leasing as a service to virtual airlines in 2011, offering aircraft repaints, and banner design for a small fee. Eventually word spread that NE was back and eventually business once again started to soar.”

“Ever since we re-launched in 2011 NE Leasing has been the flight simulation communities premier virtual airline service, offering services such as graphic design, pilot recruitment services, fleet painting and most recently webhosting. We are regarded by many as one of the best fleet painting service for virtual airlines and one of the top phpVMS hosting providers reselling webhosting from Orange-Cloud which serves many large internet companies across the globe.”

...We just thought that it may be worth sharing this little story to help and motivate anyone who has a dream, and let them know that “if you can dream it, you can do it!”.

As some readers who have been withus for a while may know, FlightSim Magazine started as an extremely small time publication, which was home-made and produced in our founder “John’s” basement. John originally founded the magazine hiring a team of 4. The original team was made up of 2 writers, 1 public-relations/marketingdirector and of courseme, the magazine editor.

We began work on issue 1 of FlightSim Magazine on the 15th of April 2013, and released the first issue on July 27th 2013. Issue one was crued, and lacked some of the design “perks” that other publications did, however the content was okay, and the magazine actiually took off at a fairly good rate. By the time issue 2 came around we had 1000+ readers for issue 1 and a little better grasp on how to work Adobe Indesign (the program we use to produce the maga-zine). We launched issue 2 along with a small ad campaign and saw a large increase in readers from issue 1 to issue2. We then continuedto release issues 1-3.

When it came time for issue 4 it was the holidayseason and we had grown to be a considerably large publication with a good-sized following, and we wanted to do something special for our readers. With the generous help of the guys at Carenado we were able to do our second contest. We were able to give away a Carenado Malibu Mirage and a copy of X-Plane 10. Our firstcontest was in issue 3, when we gave-away a copy of the Quality-Wings Ultimate 146.

Although at this point we had a steady number of 1400-2000 readers, the contests never really got too many entries and we had a few repeat winners, so our last contest was in the holiday issue with the Malibu Mirage and 2 copies of X-Plane 10.

Up until this point (issue 5) we had worked with the same team as when we first started out, however with the announcement of issue 5, some other larger companies started to take an interest in FlightSim Magazine and we eventually made a deal with the VistaSim Network who currently owns/runs Fsxreview.com, FlightSim Magazine, Aviationer and TruckSim.info. With the sale of FlightSim Magazine to VistaSim came a few staff changes. the pr/marketing “department” was shut down, and a new editor, and 2 new writers were hired. Currently this is the team that brings you FlightSim Magazine.

Now we proudly celebrate1 year of being one of flightsimulations most loved publications, as wehope to be for the next years to come.
