On Saturday 23rd April, the 400th

anniversary of Shakespeare’s

death, members of Year 7 went to

the West Yorkshire Playhouse as

part of the Children’s University.

They were given a drama workshop,

practising Shakespearean insults

and developing some of the most

famous characters from his plays.

Students were given the chance to

use props and perform a speech in

front of other schools. Afterwards

students were given a backstage

tour of the theatre and discovered

that putting on a performance

involves lots of different jobs and

skills in getting everything ready

for an audience. The visit was

organised by the “half-faced

hugger-mugger” Miss Storey and

the “beslubbering boar-pig”

Indonesia Visit

In April the Holy Family School celebrated 10 years of partnership with

Pondok Pesantren Darunnajaj in Jakarta , Indonesia. This is essentially a

partnership between a catholic school and an Islamic boarding school, whereby

teachers and sometimes students from each school have visited the other

country each year for a two week period. The aim has been to find out about the

two different cultures , the education systems and the similarities and

differences in the two religious.

This year Mrs Llewellyn and Mr Verfuerth from Holy Family travelled to

Indonesia to take part in celebrations attended by the British Ambassodor to

Indonesia and the British Council.

We are looking forward to welcoming back staff and students from Darunnajah in

Autumn 2016.

The English Faculty embarked on an adventure with 83 Year 11 students to

Bradford’s Alhambra Theatre on Wednesday 4th May, to watch a stager production

an Inspector who drops into the esteemed Birling family one evening and turns their

lives into turmoil. But who is it that learns from their mistakes? ‘The famous younger

generation’. When the Inspector leaves the Birling family think they have got away

with their hideous crimes, until the phone rings and a real Inspector is on his way to

pay them a visit. The students enjoyed the trip and will hopefully remember all they

had seen and read for their exam on Friday 27th May. Good luck Year 11!
