For the next 5 weeks, our Kids Matter Program will be teaching us about Responsible Decision Making. This week the students looked at Snap Decisions. Students were asked to wrap a present with a partner with many challenges thrown in. Students learnt that in less than 30 seconds, we make over 500 snap decisions when wrapping a present. We also looked at what can happen when we make a wrong decision. We listened to the Kate Miller-Heidke song which expresses her shame and regret about having turned her back on a friend who was being bullied because she was fearful for her own social acceptance. She made a bad decision that she has to live with. Her song ‘Caught in the Crowd’ can be viewed at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HLHKia4PTKQ We looked at a clip that talked about making a good decision to speak up if anyone needed your help. ‘Say Something’ can be viewed at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tyukkOiayt4 The following clip is another way students can speak up and make a positive decision. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NIeQ8NZPoOc If you have any questions or positive feedback about the program, please see your child’s classroom teacher.
