A sudden bout of illness, or chronic injury reinforces just how much we had, when we no longer have. How often we go through life looking through a lens of what we don’t have. We focus on where we fall short, what we can’t afford, or what others have that we don’t. What we do have, the incredi- ble opportunities available, the freedoms we enjoy, the numerous blessings we have, often remain out of focus. Our Year 12’s were reminded last week to refocus on what they had even in the midst of a trial - two days of QCS tests. A past student recently shared in assembly of her school QCS experience, showing a photo of a single sparsely set trestle table displaying some cheap instant coffee, a bowl of tea bags, and a stack of foam cups. This was the morning tea provided to her year level as they sat their QCS tests. This year’s cohort enjoyed a relaxed a-la-carte breakfast; fresh fruit and muesli, croissants with ham and cheese, ice coffee and fresh juice, and warm raison toast. All in the setting and comfort of the senior lounge, overlooking the college lake. They sat the tests in a noise free, air-conditioned, carpeted hall, on padded seats. Looking through one lens revealed the pain and discomfort of rigorous testing. Yet another lens revealed much blessing! If you are at a place where you are focussed on the ‘what I don’t have’, here is another lens to look through and re-direct your attention. Everyday our students and teachers attend a Christian school in complete peace, safety and freedom. They are free from oppression, war, religious violence or imprison- ment for their faith. They have access to more resources than most other schools in the world. They sit in air conditioned classrooms and have access to flush toilets. They have running water and electricity. They wear shoes and can get breakfast each morning. Senior students can drive their own car to school. Other students use reliable and affordable public transport. As they get sick, they have access to the best public health system in the world. As they leave school they are faced with opportunities. They can get work and earn money. They have access to tertiary study. They can travel. They can one day buy a house. They have opportunities to study some of the most amazing and interesting subjects while at school. They get choice. They have teachers that care. Mueller College enjoys an abundance of blessings. We have much, and lack very little. This week I have been reminded to be thankful for what we have. That thanks goes to HIM, who has provided it all.

There is a very poignant quote that says

‘You only realise what you’ve got when

it’s gone!’ As one moves away from their

more youthful years, it could not ring more

true. A sudden bout of illness, or chronic

injury reinforces just how much we had,

when we no longer have.

How often we go through life looking

through a lens of what we don’t have. We

focus on where we fall short, what we

can’t afford, or what others have that we

don’t. What

we do have,

the incredi-

ble

opportunities

available,

the freedoms

we enjoy, the numerous blessings we

have, often remain out of focus.

Our Year 12’s were reminded last week to

refocus on what they had even in the

midst of a trial - two days of QCS tests. A

past student recently shared in assembly

of her school QCS experience, showing a

photo of a single sparsely set trestle table

displaying some cheap instant coffee, a

bowl of tea bags, and a stack of foam

cups. This was the morning tea provided

to her year level as they sat their QCS

tests. This year’s cohort enjoyed a

relaxed a-la-carte breakfast; fresh fruit

and muesli, croissants with ham and

cheese, ice coffee and fresh juice, and

warm raison toast. All in the setting and

comfort of the senior lounge, overlooking

the college lake. They sat the tests in a

noise free, air-conditioned, carpeted hall,

on padded seats. Looking through one

lens revealed the pain and discomfort of

rigorous testing. Yet another lens

revealed much blessing!

If you are at a place where you are

focussed on the ‘what I don’t have’, here

is another lens to look through and

re-direct your attention.

Everyday our students and teachers

attend a Christian school in complete

peace, safety and freedom. They are free

from oppression, war, religious violence

or imprison-

ment for their

faith. They

than most

other schools in the world. They sit in air

conditioned classrooms and have access

to flush toilets. They have running water

and electricity. They wear shoes and can

students can drive their own car to school.

Other students use reliable and affordable

public transport. As they get sick, they

have access to the best public health

system in the world. As they leave school

they are faced with opportunities. They

can get work and earn money. They have

access to tertiary study. They can travel.

They can one day buy a house. They

have opportunities to study some of the

most amazing and interesting subjects

while at school. They get choice. They

Mueller College enjoys an abundance of

blessings. We have much, and lack very

little. This week I have been reminded to

be thankful for what we have. That thanks

Are you facing challenges that you’re struggling to make sense of? Are you experiencing life changes, transitions or

loss? Loss is something we all experience sometime in our lives. Loss isn’t just losing somebody close, but can

include loss of home, relationship, job, health, dreams and expectations to name a few. Counselling allows a safe

place to voice your thoughts, fears and feelings. Voicing them to another often enables you to see things from a

different perspective.

Friends and family members can be a great support to us, but are often unable to provide an objective point of view.

A counsellor won’t tell you what to do, but may help you consider choices, decisions and changes to enable you to

live your life more fully. Counselling doesn’t need to be long-term – in fact a single session may be all that’s needed.

Sometimes, though, more is needed over a period of weeks or months. We all differ, face different circumstances

and have differing needs, so respect and confidentiality are assured.

Mueller Community Church Counsellor, Jenny Billingham is available for parents, families, students and

staff at Mueller College.

Phone 3897 2706 or 0427 876 396 for an appointment. (Please leave a message if the phone is unattended)
