Greetings from GCCI!

Finance Minister presented Budget for 2018-19 predominantly a rural sector budget to address discontent over falling farm income and slowdown. Measures like reducing in IT rate from 30% to 25% for MSME, highest ever allocation for Indian Railways, National Logistics Portal, increased allocation for Exporter’s Interest Subsidy Scheme, significant focus on health care, education & rural upliftment are appreciable and laudable. However, the budget missed on the start-up, relief on MAT for SEZ, rate of interest on loan to MSME etc. It is well for consumer goods companies as likely increase in disposable income of rural population will boost consumption. Shipping including Sagarmala got least allocation thereby, raising concern & question on take-off of Sagarmala Project to achieve the Govt.’s ambitions goals.

The Govt. deferred the launch of E-Way Bill under GST due to failure of the portal and now implementation may be gradual phase-wise. However, business fraternity should continue its trial to get familiar with the system.

As expected in Bi-Monthly monetary policy, RBI maintained status-quo by keeping key rates steady. However, RBI warned on five levies on capital and fiscal slippage resulting the Govt.'s turn to counter the headwinds. Higher inflation outlook is very much a matter of concern for the exporters which result into increase of net borrowing cost for the exporters and further pressure on working capital due to pending GST refund.

The Gujarat Government while presenting budget for the fiscal year 2018-19, went all out to please most cross-sections of the society, especially the youth, students & farmers.

Major Ports registered positive growth of 4.58% during April’17 to January’18 with the contribution of 90.98 Million Tonnes of Deendayal Port (Kandla Port).

Our Chamber is committed to follow-up vigorously with the Govt. to make policies conducive for the business environment.

As Chamber’s E-News Letter evolves itself with new features we look forward to your valuable feedback & contribution.

With best wishes………
