In recognition of the 40 years of partnership with Red Wing Shoe Company Inc (Red Wing), Leeden National Oxygen Ltd (Leeden NOX) held a dinner event on 30 November 2018, at Kallang Theatre. In response to the Malay cultural theme of the event, our guests arrived dressed in Malay costumes like batik and kebaya.

Attending the event were employees of Leeden NOX along with guests including Mr. Steven Tham (CEO of Leeden NOX), Mr. Kelvin Lee andMr. Teiichiro Sawa (COO's of Leeden NOX), Mr. Philip Chan (VP of Leeden NOX’s Safety Products), Mr. Mark Urdahl (President and CEO of Red Wing), Mr. Tito Warren (VP of Red Wing’s Global Sales and Distribution), Mr. Ralph Balestriere (Executive VP of Red Wing), Ms. Anastasia Kovardakova (Territory Sales Manager of Red Wing), Mr. Keerin Chutumstid (Managing Director of Leeden Thailand), Mr. Cheang Fook Sam (General Manager of Leeden Hercules), Mr. Peter Cheang (Deputy General Manager of Leeden Hercules), and Mr. Rudy Said (Country Sales Manager of PT Hengtraco Protecsindo).

Local delicacies in style of Asian fusion were accompanied by songs and dances by professionals as well as Leeden NOX staff. Other activities included were game and dance lessons that got everyone onto their feet. The event ended with a final toast as well as the cutting of cake.

Leeden NOX’s 40th Anniversarywith

On 2 March 2018, a larger Helium Centre was reopened in 21 Tanjong Kling, this was after the renovation to expand the centre’s capability. The new centre is a joint venture between Leeden NOX and Praxair, and consists of a production facility and a QC Lab. The production facility comprises of diving gas filling, industrial gas filling and Dewar tank filling.

For Diving Gas filling, the refilling manifolds are catered specifically for the refilling of diving gas in quads at a pressure of 300 bar. The types of Diving Gases are: Heliox (mixture of Helium and Oxygen), Nitrox (mixture of Nitrogen and Oxygen), Diving Air, Diving Oxygen.

Industrial gas refilling caters for balloon gas refilling, Helium, Pure Helium, HP Helium and UHP Helium refilling, Pure Oxygen, UHP Oxygen and Nitrogen refilling, and finally Air and Synthetic Air refilling.

Gaseous Helium is used in applications such as lifting, breathing, leak detection and shielding. Liquid Helium is used for cooling purposes and also for MRI machines. Many industries can benefit from helium's inert and unique properties to optimize performance in productivity, reduce labour costs and improve operation safety.

Leeden NOX refurbished a warehouse located at 21 Tanjong Kling, to allow it to store electronic gases. It now consists of three rooms, and is able to store NF3, inert gases/mixtures, and toxic and corrosive gases. This warehouse has been approved by NEA after they have physically inspected it this year.

This warehouse is equipped with a gas detector system interlocked with an emergency wet scrubber system, to handle and mitigate any gas leak situations. It is also designed with heat detectors and fire fighting equipment to detect and extinguish small fires. This design has been approved by SCDF as well.

Electronic gases are mainly used in the microelectric and semiconductor industries. They can also be used in measurement and process control applications. Electronic gases can either be pure or in mixtures, and these mixtures can be used for wafer fabrication and crystal growth on wafers.

On 20 April 2018, Sabah Oxygen Sdn Bhd officially expanded out to two new facilities, one located at Industrial Zone 12, Kota Kinabalu Industrial Park, Sabah, while the other at Harmony Broadway warehouse, Menggatal. These two locations serve to replace the older Jalan Kolombong office, with the new premises including the new ASU and DA Plants. The new ASU Plant is capable of 1,000 cu.m per hour, while the new DA Plant is capable of 100 cu.m per hour.

While the new plants are already in operation since day one, the move of the other departments and operations like cylinder maintenance, ramp and refilling, will commence shortly after, once the operators and administration and sales staff are reallocated to the new locations as well.

Upgrade of Anti-Tow Away System

Moving a bulk delivery vehicle, with the product delivery hose still connected to a storage tank can lead to serious incident, and may create potential damage to the flexible hose, pulling down of interconnecting piping within the facilities and also likelihood of personal injury.

Thus Leeden Gas evaluated the effectiveness of existing tow-away protection methods to enhance its safety and reliability level. This can also improve maintenance effectiveness, reduce downtime and the many attributes that are prone to failure and misoperation.

The enhancement interlocks the access of the hose connection of the bulk delivery vehicle with the activation of the air braking system of the trailer, making it more robustly connected by stainless steel pipe to a 3 ways ball valves installed near to the bulk vehicle hose connection outlet and route back to the relay valve & air tank. The new system is not prone to tempering - not easily accessible to the undercarriage of the trailer & also any malfunction will lock the trailer brake system & prevent vehicle movement.

Leeden National Oxygen Ltd participated in OSEA 2018, the largest and most established oil & gas industry event in Asia, from 27 to 29 November.

Leeden NOX brought along multiple live demonstrations to our audience. Every day, our teams of professionals demonstrated the prowess of Hypertherm Powermax125 and Miller XMT 300 to display the acts and results of RMD Root Pass Welding, Flush Cutting, Plasma Gouging and Plasma Cutting. While at the same time, we have another team to showcase live CNC Plasma cutting demonstrations using Messer OmniMat T with Hypertherm XPR300.

The Leeden NOX Group is delighted to return to METALTECH 2018, from 23rd to 26th May 2018, at Putra World Trade Centre, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. With the global move towards automation, this year at METALTECH, we brought to the event the most exciting CNC Cutting and Robotic Welding Solution from our wide spectrum of internationally renowned brands such as Messer, Hypertherm, OTC Daihen, and many others.

One of our highlights was our live demonstration of an automated system designed with OTC welding and handling robots combined with Hypertherm plasma cutting system in collaboration with Messer table for a precision cut and faster welding process.

Visitors to our booth were also drawn to the CLIMAX flange facing and boring portable machines we set up running, as well as the augmented reality display that allowed them to view our products up close at any angle. The Leeden NOX Group also took this opportunity to showcase a variety of brands such as Shindaiwa, Fein, Auweld, Flexovit, ATA Tools, Procut and Miller.

With the extensive network around the world, built up from our partnered brands and clientele, we not only have the right products, but also the knowledge and resources to design the customised solution for our clients in industries such as oil & gas, shipbuilding and ship repair yards, building & infrastructure construction, manufacturing and many more.

The four-day event could not have been the success we now remembered had it not just for the collaboration between the Leeden Singapore and the Leeden Malaysia branches, but also our trade partners, industry players and customers who visited through their busy schedule.

SOLUTION: ENGINEERED SYSTEMS

1) Extract airborne wood dust at the source of dust creation:

Wood dust is listed as an explosive hazard and we offered them an ATEX solution to comply with regulations. We proposed a low vacuum system to extract airborne wood dust at the source. The system is designed with 100% simultaneous usage factor.

2) High vacuum of heavy wood dust at source and cleaning around work areas:

Another area is used for the preparation of wood materials for lessons. We proposed a high vacuum system to be connected to the machines to extract the heavier wood dust and chips. The system is designed with 6 manual valve dropper points at 30% simultaneous usage factor.

RESULTS AND COMMENTS

The school is very impressed with the system performance and Leeden NOX Safety’s know-how in ATEX dust extraction.

In response of the Seminar’s focus on the changes of the Fire Code published by SCDF on 21 August 2018, Leeden Fire Safety exhibited and demonstrated products that are aligned to the new requirements, from air diffusion products, fire door, to fire curtain, and more.

The 2nd Annual Leeden NOX Safety Seminar built on the concept discussed during the 1st Annual Safety Seminar. This year’s seminar focused more on the practical aspect of risk assessment and management, and classified the likelihood of risk level and their severity. The seminar also highlighted the reporting requirement of the group as well as to government authorities.

This seminar enabled factory and logistic Managers and staffs to have an in-depth understanding of risk. During the seminar, they were educated on how to assess risk, mitigate and control them, and also be guided on the emergency response requirement and training at the workplace. A checklist of Risk Assessment and emergency guide were developed for each major activity such as Cylinders Transportation, DA Manufacturing, Gas Refilling as well as General Workplace Safety to assist our operational staff.

Every year, NatSteel Holdings Pte Ltd holds an internal assessment on their 122 approved vendors and contractors – to grade each with the NatSteel 5 STAR Award for exhibiting high safety standard. The 5 STAR grade requires a more stringent assessment than the bizSAFE standard. Leeden NOX is proud to be qualified among the 8% of all 122 contractors being presented with this 5 STAR Award for our diligence towards workplace safety and health.

In commemoration of the 10 years partnership between Leeden National Oxygen Ltd and uvex, Mr. Andreas Dammann, Director Asia South-Pacific, uvex Safety, presented the token of acknowledgement to Mr. Steven Tham, CEO of Leeden NOX on 27 November 2018. Mr. Andreas also visited the Leeden NOX booth at the OSEA 2018 show to thank the Safety division for their commitment and hard work.
