New and returning Staff in 2017
I am pleased to provide an update regarding 2017 staffing and school structure In 2017 we look forward to the part-time return from family leave of Ms Chloe Gannan
Mr John Petrie is retiring. The continued high standard of work and student achievement in
all the classrooms and specialist areas is testament to the hard work of our teaching staff and the support the children get from home. John has done a wonderful job over the
years, always putting in more than expected to ensure the children in his care receive the very best education, socially, emotionally and academically. Hopefully he will still be involved with SNPS.
New strain of norovirus and hand hygiene policy A new strain of norovirus, which may lead to gastroenteritis, has been detected in Victoria. We
are reminded of the importance of using good hand hygiene in order to prevent the spread of disease. For this reason the school is providing antiseptic hand gel in all rooms.

2017 Students who receive support from the Camps, Sports and Excursions Fund and who will start
prep and Year 7 next year are eligible for a Uniform Pack from State Schools’ Relief. Secondary schools need to apply on behalf of parents in year 7 2017
Grandparents and Special Friends Afternoon Our Grandparents and Special Friends afternoon was a huge success. We had a wonderful turn out and we were
very fortunate to meet our extended school community. Our visitors were invited into our classes to join in our

Seaford Wetlands Fun Run
3/4 Ballarat Science Camp Earth Ed Students had a very exciting day, where they got to explore different types of rocks and soils. They further built their understanding of how rocks are formed and the features of different types of rocks. Students got the opportunity to look closely at different types of rocks under a microscope, explore which rocks glowed in the dark, floated or were magnetic. They tested the density of different rock types, and used soil from their gardens at home to inquire into the types of soil found in the Seaford and surrounding areas.
3/4 Ballarat Science Camp Ecolinc
Students explored the Ecolinc wetlands, which featured a range of plants that Indigenous people used for food, medicine, fibre, tools and weapons. Students learnt about the various uses for each plant type and about the resourcefulness needed by the Indigenous people to survive. Students got the opportunity to explore the Ecolinc wetlands/grasslands and identify a range of bush food plants, discover and identify parts of bush food plants that were used by Indigenous people, propagate bush food seeds/cuttings in the glasshouse and use parts of bush food plants as materials for tools and weaving.
Welcome Stranger Caravan Park Students got to participate in a range of activities once we got to the camp site, including minigolf, circus skills and a jumping pillow.
