AWARDS FOR PHOTOGRAPHIC MERIT IN AUDIO VISUAL

Following the launch of the revised criteria for the Awards in AV we have not been overwhelmed with responses and it is now unlikely that there will be an Adjudication in 2014. Perhaps setting a date will encourage a more positive response? Every Adjudication in Audio Visual has the potential for financial loss and the PAGB Executive have accepted this. We have been fortunate, in the past that the Administrator was able to call in a few promises, cajole colleagues and twist arms in order to keep within a very tight budget and we have run Adjudications with a very small number of Applicants. We cannot operate in the hope this will continue in the future. The fee to enter for AV is the same as for a still photography but we do fewer in a day. Hence the need to increase the number seeking an Award. We are aiming for 12 Applicants The PAGB are planning to schedule an Adjudication in AV in early May 2015 and we hope to use a venue near Oxford. The specific details will be announced after they have been discussed and agreed by the PAGB Executive Committee on 4th and 5th October 2014. It is likely that the Closing Date for Applications will be 29 Dec 2014 with the entries required in Spring 2015. Let us hope we will get lots of applications and AV enthusiasts coming forward. The APM Secretary has been badgered for several years by people asking when the next AV APM will take place but they seem to have melted into nowhere now that the time has come to act!

WE HAVE PUT IN A LOT OF EFFORT TO MAKE THIS WORK SO PLEASE USE IT, OR IT MAY DIE

Richard Graham Jolley (RGJ) is a self-taught British cartoonist raised in Cheshire where he attended the local comprehensive and went on to study Philosophy, Politics and Economics at University College, Oxford, an education which resulted in no employment. He has worked as a cleaner in a factory where they thought he was mentally retarded, then sorting ancient books in the Bodleian Library, as a production manager for accountancy training manuals and as a barman before becoming a freelance cartoonist in 1994. His first cartoon was published in Private Eye in 1990 where he has since been a very regular contributor. He also contributes to The Spectator, The Oldie, Prospect and Mail on Sunday and has been seen in The Times, Telegraph, New Statesman and many other august publications.

JOHN HODGSON EFIAP/b FAPS AV-FAPS ESFIAP Hon. FAPS and JUDITH HODGSON LAPS AV-AAPS will show sequences about various aspects of life in Australia, and different areas of Australia. They will also be showing a few of their more unusual and intriguing sequences. The evening should be equally appealing to those with an interest in Australia, or of travel in general, as well as Audio-Visual workers. Bring your friends! Visitors are welcome at all WGAVG meetings, but we are promoting this evening in particular because of its wider appeal. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

The RPS Journal has been published continuously since March 1853 and is the world’s oldest photographic periodical. With the ending of the publishing contract The Society recently undertook a review of its journal and surveyed members as a result a new publisher was appointed. As e-news noted last issue the RPS Journal has changed much, for the better. With three issues now published The Society is again surveying members on feedback on the new look and content. Initial results look very positive and the survey remains open for all RPS members until the end of September at: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/journal0814

If you’re not a member of The RPS and would like to see a recent issue free, please email [email protected] giving your name and address and put PAGB/RPS Journal in the subject line. We think 12 monthly issues each of 84 pages of the RPS Journal is worth the Society subscription alone, but please make up your own mind. GB CUP 2014 Sponsored by www.paperspectrum.co.uk

The DVDs for each of the Three GB Cup shows were despatched by second class mail on Tuesday 26 August 2014 and most of you should now have received them. They have been addressed to the person who made your entry to the GB Cup so, if you haven’t yet received yours, please check internally before writing to me. Last year I handle quite a number of queries from Club Secretaries when the DVD was already in the possession of the Club. [email protected]

AWARDS FOR PHOTOGRAPHIC MERIT (APM) WORKSHOP

Pictures from successful CPAGB entries

The NCPF is hosting an APM Workshop on behalf of the PAGB Clara Vale Community Centre, Stannerford Road, Clara Vale, NE40 3ST

Saturday 18th October 2014 from 10am. Clara Vale Community Centre is situated between the villages of Ryton and Wylam near to

Ryton Golf Club and is fully accessible for the disabled.

The workshop will be led by Rod Wheelans with other members of the PAGB APM Team and, in the morning, will clearly explain the various PAGB Photographic Awards and the standard of work necessary to achieve the CPAGB, DPAGB and MPAGB Awards.

In the afternoon delegates will get the opportunity to have an initial panel of work assessed to give an overview of their current standard plus guidance about which level they might aim for and what they will need to do to get there.

The cost of the event is £5.00 which will include a buffet lunch and refreshments.

Numbers will be limited so an early application is recommended. Please contact Richard Speirs at [email protected]. Applications must be received by no later than Friday 26th September 2014.
