SCHOOL MUSICAL— “Cinderella and Rockerfella” The Musical will involve 144 students from Years 4-6!!! This week we will be conducting auditions for the major speaking parts for the school musical and will announce which students have these parts at the end of this Term. I will then give those successful students an information sheet for their parents to read and sign, to say that they are willing to allow their child to participate in a Major Part of the musi-cal. What this means is that they are agreeing to the com-mitment that is involved in being part of the musical. The Musical “Cinderella and Rockerfella” will be pre-sented at the HIGHFIELDS CULTURAL CENTRE on Thursday 19 September. As next Term progresses, there will be more notes about costumes and other requests for help sent home. PREP ENROLMENTS 2020 Children born 1 JULY 2014—30 JUNE 2015 Parents at Fairview who have younger siblings that are eligi-ble to attend Prep in 2020 please contact the office as soon as possible to enrol your child so we can gauge our future numbers. PBL CELEBRATION DAY Next Friday 28 June our Free Dress Day for Chaplaincy is also our PBL Celebration Day. This term the students who have not received a Major for their Behaviour and who have the acceptable level of attendance will be attending our PBL Celebration Disco. The parents/carers of the students who are not participating in our PBL Celebration Day will receive a phone call from their child’s classroom teacher about their non-attendance at the PBL Celebration Day. Congratula-tions to all our students who have not received a Major Be-haviour for Term 2 and who have reached the benchmark for attendance. Well Done. FOOTSTEPS After the holidays, commencing Week 1 on a Thursday and continuing for 5 Thursdays, the children in the Musical in Yrs 4-6 who have permission from Parents/Carers to participate in the School Musical will participate in a Footsteps pro-gram, where they will be taught the dances for our Musical. This is of no cost to the students as it is part of our Musical preparation. This will happen between 1.45 to 3.00p.m. FREE DRESS DAY Our Free Dress Day for Term 2 will be held on the last day of Term, Friday 28 June. Could students please bring along a gold coin. The money raised will go towards our Chaplain cyFund, which is in need of funds to support the two days we employ Chappy Alan. PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!

P&C MEETING Our next P&C Meeting will be held on Tuesday 13 August, commencing at 7.00pm in the Staff Room. Everyone is welcome to attend. PARKING Parents will have noticed that there is a traffic monitor placed at the top end of the car park out the front of the school. I am also letting parents know that parking officers will be pa-trolling that area where cars have been parking in the tear drop area at the northern end of the school carpark. Please be aware of this, as they will be issuing parking tickets if your car is parked there as this is not a parking area. EVERY DAY COUNTS The holidays are fast approaching. While it may be tempting to let your child stay home for the last day or even the last week of term, our school would prefer to see every child on every day of every term. We strongly believe children need to attend school every day to receive the most benefits from their education. Did you realise that skipping the last day of every term adds up to more than a whole term of schooling missed throughout a child’s education? Skipping a whole week of school each term means your child will miss more than 15 months of their education! For further information on the importance of regular school attendance, please visit www.education.qld.gov.au/everydaycounts/posters.html

Julie Principal

Tash from Carbal Medical Services will be visiting the school on Monday 24 June (Last week of term) to test the Non-Indigenous students who have returned forms and have received appointments for this day.

Parents/Carers—Please contact the school office if your child is unable to attend their appointment with Carbal on this day.

MOUTHGUARDS Just wanting to give all parents some advance notice about the changes which have been made regarding mouthguards and sport. These changes mean that all students wishing to participate in these interschool sports or any rep sports trials MUST wear a mouthguard. For our school the biggest impact will begin in term 3 this year when we participate in Rugby League and Hockey. But if you attend any trials for these sports beforehand you will need a mouthguard.

The Department of Education Curriculum Activity Risk Assessment (CARA) guidelines mandate that mouthguards are now compulsory for students wishing to participate in a school sport for the sports listed below.

• Australian Football (AFL) • Rugby League/Rugby Union • Hockey

The Department of Education strongly recommends that students wear custom-fitted mouthguards. Parents / Carers are requested to refer to the Australian Dental Association website in order to make an informed choice about the different types of available mouthguards. https://www.ada.org.au/Your-Dental-Health/Teens-12-17/Mouthguards If a student is unable to wear a mouthguard for medical reasons, then a signed medical clearance certificate is required prior to participating in the event. Failure to comply with the process will mean that the student will be unable to participate at the specific school sport event. WEST ZONE ATHLETICS Congratulations to those who participated in a miserable, freezing, cold day on Tuesday 4 June. Special mention needs to go the brave people who stayed all day to run the 800m as the last event. Five students: Jake Wilson, Andre Diem, Theo

Aston, Beau Martin and Tasha Hall have been selected in the West Zone team to compete in the DD trials on Tues-day June 18. Good luck! BADMINTON Last year we were fortunate to receive Sporting Schools funding which allowed us to purchase some Badminton equipment. Vinnie from Qld Badminton dropped in last week to take the year 5 students through some skills and drills. All upper school students will get the chance to learn Badminton at some stage during this year. The year 5 & 6 students are already enjoy-ing the game. If you are interested, the Toowoomba Badminton Association holds social games for anyone of any skill level at St Ursula’s hall on weekday afternoons. I believe it only costs $2 to go along and try. Check out their Facebook page or website for further details. RUGBY LEAGUE DEVELOPMENT CUP On Friday May 31 we entered one boys and one girls team in the Development Cup competition. Both teams played 3 games each and they both came away with zero losses for the day!! What an amazing effort. Most pleasing was the leadership shown from those students who are experienced at playing. It was really heart-warming to see how they helped and guided those players who were new to the game. The behaviour of these team leaders really went a long way to making it a posi-tive day for everyone involved. Well done to all. Al Aston PE Teacher

What’s been happening in Year 2? Year 2 students have been having a fantastic time AND learning while studying our "Toy Factory" science unit. We have been designing, posing questions and evaluating toys made from a variety of materials. The students were creative and pre-cise when planning and creating their push/pull toys. Well done Year 2! In English we have been learning about characters in stories and what makes us prefer them over other characters. We have learnt about push and pull toys in Science and how to make toys that spin in Design and Technology. In Art we have learnt many different techniques that we can apply to other artwork. We created turtles, penguins, beehives and have enjoyed doing some guided drawings that teach us how to draw things that we normally would find quite tricky.

In our Big Write time we have been talking about VCOP. This stands for Vocabulary, Connectives, Openers and Punctua-tion. We have been trying very hard to use these in our writing, especially using new vocabulary and punctuation to make our writing more interesting for our readers.

The Handsome Knight and the Dragon By Cassidy Nolen

One day a handsome knight wanted to fight a huge dragon. The knight said, ‘ I will win because he/she is weak…’ Then out popped a bad mas-sive dragon!! The knight dropped his sword and ran away. The dragon said, ‘I will rule the world …MUHAHAHA!’ The dragon flew to the knight. Then the knight said, ‘Stop! We can be friends.’ So the dragon stopped, ‘Yes!!!” said the dragon. Then the knight said, ‘What is your name?’ ‘Eve,’ said Eve the dragon. ‘My name is Eli,’ said the knight and they lived hap-pily ever after.

The Dragon Tale By Lesly Boothby

Once upon a time there was a kingdom. It was a lovely castle. There was a King and a Queen and knights. The queen sent the Knight to the dragon to get the Princess. So the Knight went to get the Princess but the dragon woke up. He got the Princess and told her to go to the castle. The Knight fought the dragon then the dragon died. So the Knight and the Princess got married and the Knight became a Prince. The Dragon Tale By Paige Clough

Beau the Knight was in the castle having a lovely, delicious snack…but the Princess and the Queen said, ‘Oh Beau! A drag-on’s coming!!’ So then the Knight set off and went to get that dragon…then the dragon noticed them and he went to eat them all for dinner! The Knight was frightened and told everyone in the ginormous castle and told them all to run and hide! The Knight tried to kill the dragon but he failed and ran for his life. When the dragon lost him he went to sleep and Beau the Knight woke up and asked if they could be friends and the dragon said, ‘Yes and sorry.’

The Dragon kills the Knight By Max Pearson

The fearless Knight went to fight a dragon. He slayed the dragon when he fought it and he had to go through the dark forest and thick mud. He had to fight animals while he was in there to get to the dragon. He got to the dragon and he was too tired to fight the dragon and the dragon ate the Knight and that was that.

The Dragon’s Snack By Eli Prior

One day a Knight went to fight a dragon. But the dragon woke up… The dragon had a mid ‘knight’ snack!

The Dragon and the Knight By Amarah McIntosh

Long. Long ago the Knight was going to get a dragon and when he got there the dragon was asleep. He woke it up. The dragon chased the Knight…he was scared! He ran and ran until he got there. The dragon was angry and evil and selfish…the Knight was anxious and aghast. He was nearly there but there was another dragon. He stopped. The dragons were sur-rounding him. He was fearful. He couldn’t cross because the dragon was in the way. The knight nearly got eaten by a drag-on. He was so, so scared. He was not brave. He couldn’t cross. He was outside for 25 minutes…as the dragons were out-side too for 24 minutes until the two dragons went home and the Knight finally got in the castle.

The Alien By Elliot Prior

One day there was a faraway planet called Ticking Time Bomb. It was no joke it was a real bomb. Then one day it exploded. There was an alien called Elliot he is a nice alien. Elliot was sad because his best friends are on the other side of the earth. They are sad too. It is not fun being alone but Elliot found them and they had fun together. The Alien By Kobe Brown

In a dark world lived a little crazy alien named Mr Wings. Mr Wings was powerful and ferocious. He had amazing wings and he was slinky stretchy and funny. He loves to stash a lot of massive things and if you touch them he will zap you. He wants to invade earth because he is lost and looking for a green goblin.

The Alien By Eden Ott

In a dark, spooky planet called planet Bong there lived an alien named Monstrogon. One day Monstrogon was in a space ship then he heard a crash. He went outside and saw a planet that he had never seen before. It was magnificent but when he turned around his spaceship was broken. Monstrogon said “I can make friends” so off he went looking for some friends. He saw lots of people he didn’t know who could be his friend. He tried to blend in. A boy looked at Monstrogon and the boy said “I love aliens”. Monstrogon said “do you want to be my friend?” “Yes!!” said the boy, I love alien friends”. The alien and his friend lived happily ever after.
