Thanks Community
for Spring Fling
Support
Pioneer Memorial Hospital &
Health Services annual Spring
Fling event was very successful
and raised over $1,500.00.
Proceeds from this event will be
donated for summer youth
activities in the communities of
Viborg, Hurley, Centerville,
Parker, Irene and Wakonda.
During the Spring Fling Event,
22 units of blood were also col-
lected during the Community
Blood Drive. This will save
approximately 66 lives and our
community is to be thanked for
your act of kindness. In all, a
great event was held and we
thank everyone for their support
and generosity in supporting our
local youth activities.
At the beginning of this year, Pioneer Memorial Hospital embarked on an adventure inspired by our “Community Health Needs Assessment”. The details of this assessment can be found at www.pioneermemorial.org.
The beginning of this year, we began a three month community challenge for participants to try and reduce the amount of fat percentages of their body along with other body improvements. The goal of this challenge was to inspire and motivate our community to eat healthy and exercise.
Approximately 38 community members took advantage of our contest to win prizes for differ-ent categories. Each challenger was given a Total Body DXA scan at the start of the com-petition as well as at the end of the competition. This scan gives a very precise measure-ment of total body composition and muscle to fat ratios. The beginning scan was compared with the last scan and we had some amazing results.
Overall, our contestants lost a total of 172 pounds of fat alone for a total fat ratio percentage loss of 6.3%, so even many of those who didn’t place ended up winning by improving their health and fitness levels.
While the challenge may be officially over, we will always offer our DXA scan service. If you would like more information, check out the Pioneer Memorial website at www.pioneermemorial.org or call 605-326-3031. Congratulations to the winners of the following categories and to all who did so well!
DXA Scan Most Fat Loss by Percentage – Adam Buckneberg lost over 43.67% of body fat! DXA Scan Most Fat Loss -Brady Childress lost over 38 pounds of body fat! DXA Scan Highest Muscle Gain by Percentage – Kayla Jochims increased her lean muscle mass by 7.78%! Most Weight Loss by Percentage - Brady Childress lost over 22.12% of his weight! Most Weight Loss Overall – Brady Childress lost over 53.4 pounds total!

Annual Polar Plunge Event! Annual Extravaganza Event!
The Pioneer Memorial Foundation hosted the “March Madness Extravaganza” on Saturday, March 26th, 2017. Music was played throughout the evening by “Evan Jones”, formerly of the band “Wakefield”. Evan did a fantastic job entertaining those in attendance. A big Thank You to Evan is given for helping and making this event such a success. During the event, a live and silent auction was held while guests enjoyed a variety of hors d’oeuvres. Thank you to Joel Westra, Auctioneer, for his help auctioneering. This year, the event raised approximately $4,825 for the Pioneer Memorial Foundation. Thank you to all of the supporters of the event, the table decorators, the volunteers who helped with the event, and all those who attended. We would like to thank our community for your support and look forward to seeing you at future events.

Of course we could not have had such a great turnout without the help of the wonderful donors who are listed below in no particular order.
The 10th Annual Pioneer Polar Bear Club Swan Lake Plunge was held on Saturday, April 8th 2017! While technically more of a “Solar” plunge with the postponed date and warmer temperatures, fun was still had by all. So many of our employees volunteered by serving food, setting up, raising and pledging money, spreading the word and especially—taking the PLUNGE! This has become a great event for our facility!! Total dollars raised for the event brought in approximately $2,700. A special thank you goes to all the plungers and staff that made the Plunge such a successful event this year. They all did great and all of our volunteers were wonderful. The Plunge committee organized a terrific event once again. A special thanks to the Turner County Emergency Rescue group and to the Viborg Ambulance for being onsite for the event, and to Swan Lake Christian Camp, Jerry and Judy Kroeker for hosting our event again this year!! Please congratulate all of the Plungers! The following individuals won trophies for their effort.
