Israel: Defended against her enemies: The King is coming and He will save His people. Zechariah’s prophecy is primarily given to console and comfort weary Israel. The nation’s initial enthusiasm for rebuilding the Temple and resettling the land had greatly diminished. The Lord sent Haggai and Zechariah to give the people a “booster shot.” The people have been given a second chance. The Lord used Zechariah in a very positive way. God Remembers! (Zechariah) He has not forgotten His people and His promises to them, neither should they! The Lord has planned a wonderful future for His people and Zechariah is given the charge to re-inspire the rebuilding project. There is a very noticeable change in the material of the book at the end of Chapter 8. Chapter 9 speaks of future events. By the time we get to Chapter 12 we are in the Book of Revelation! “Behold, I will make Jerusalem a cup of trembling.”
