Dry Lining

The OPTIMA Dry Lining SystemWhat is OPTIMA?

OPTIMA is the high performance solution for insulating new and older houses from the inside. Essentially, it’s an innovative dry lining system developed by insulation specialists ISOVER to significantly improve thermal and acoustic insulation.

Our insulation products are renowned for their quality and reliability. OPTIMA is designed specifically for homes where outer facade or wall cavity insulation is simply not a viable option.

OPTIMA addresses this with an easy-to-install, cost-effective alternative for renovating and insulating external walls from the inside.

Where to use Optima?

Why choose OPTIMA?

There are several key features that make OPTIMA dry lining insulation system the perfect solution for interior thermal and acoustic insulation of walls:

• Excellent thermal and acoustic performance

• Eliminates thermal bridges

• Adjustable system addresses all wall types and issues

• Dry, clean, lightweight system with minimal waste, enabling rapid construction times

• Optional airtightness & moisture control feature

• Economical

• Ideal for use in conservation of old buildings where there is solid wall construction, as it uses traditional natural material mineral wool insulation and gypsum board, which does not need to be glued and thus, does not impact on the existing structure.

Renovation - Older exposed brick and stone Some older unrendered walls can cause challenges for the Optima system:

With these wall types we recommend that an external treatment is applied to the outside of the existing wall to minimize moisture ingress from external sources whilst retaining breathable properties.

This is the key document that is the backbone of NSAI, SEAI and Building Standards for Retrofit in Ireland.

Practice for Retrofit 2014

Unrendered brick walls

Two storey (or more) rendered brick walls

Unrendered stone walls

Porous external wall Where the wall is porous enough to cause a problem with the joists in upper floors. These can rot back due to internal wall insulation.

Highly porous external wall where the wall is too porous and condensation can accumulate and cause problems, causing a need for a ‘breathable water repellent, externally’

Exposed brick home c. 1880 e.g.

Redered brick 2 storey home c. 1930.

Old cottage built rubble / stone fronted walls.

Clancy Quay, former Clancy Barracks, Islandbridge a mix of apartments and townhouses, including conversions from the original stables.

Project Overview - Challenges: As this scheme included a protected structure, it was imperative to find the right drylining solution so that the buildings were allowed to breathe to avoid possible hygrothermal issues.

The original buildings were built at different times with specific characteristics in terms of construction material and water absorption.

The external walls are constructed of a variety of Flemish bonded brick with lime mortar joints. The south wall is a thirty seven bay (infilled) brick arched composition with corresponding piers on the north wall and a variety of smaller windows at first floor level.

The building is constructed of random rubble stone, probably Dublin calp limestone with a small amount of granite, mainly in sills and areas here alterations have been undertaken. The mortar joints appear to be lime.

Each protected building was finished to a very high standard, with the comfort of the future resident kept in the forefront of the architects minds. Optima helped in ensuring this comfort, whilst also preserving the character of the protected structure.
