TENSIONS between the AbaThem-bu King, Buyelekhaya Dalindye-bo, and his former right handman, Chief Jongisizwe Jonas ‘JJ’Ndzambule, of Mthatha West,

have reached boiling point.

JJ, as he is affectionately known, is chiefof Mthatha West that comprises MandelaPark, Slovo Park and Polar Park.

He and King Dalindyebo united in the fightagainst President Jacob Zuma after Pres. Zu-

ma sent a letter to Bumbane Great Place re-questing that theKing explainwhyhe shouldnot be dethroned as king. Ndzambule also ledthe delegation that served Zuma with a peti-tion requesting him to stay out of Bumbaneaffairs.

Ndzambule was very vocal in his supportof the king and was always present at eventsandmeetings hosted by the King. Ndzambulewas also elected as the Public RelationsOffic-er (PRO) of the AbaThembu Royal Council.

According to sources, recent tension be-tween Ndzambule and the King had reachedboiling point, to such an extent that the King

had sent his envoy called Eye of the Child,a non-governmental organisation, to Mt-hatha West to register each and every homeand promised them title deeds fromKomkhu-lu (Great Place).

In addition the Eye of the Child also wentand collected rental from some institutions,such as Ecatu, that were renting land fromMthatha West.

In an interview with Express, Chief Nd-zambule said he had no problem with theKing but said it seemed that “it was the Kingwho has a problem with him.”

“He is not God. I respect his status as he

is bigger than me, but it does not mean thathe can come and interfere in my areas with-out consultation because I am the one whoallocated the sites in all the areas of MthathaWest. He must give me the respect that I de-serve and must not be booing me because Iserve under him. He must learn not to crossthe boundaries,” said Ndzambule.

He reminded the King to respect his bailconditions because “what he is doing incitesterror in the area.”

He denied that he had received a letterfrom the king. “If they say they had givenmea letter they must produce the acknowledge-ment letter from me.”

Ndzambule revealed that they had submit-ted petitions to the Department of Tradition-al Affairs, National Prosecuting Authority,AmaDlomo Royal Council, AbaThembu Roy-al Council and to the speaker of the KingSabatha Dalindyebo Municipality warningthem that the King’s actionsmay possibly in-stigate violence among members of the com-munity.

It was also reported that the King had firedall the Chiefs ofMthathaWest. But theKing’sspokesperson, Reverend Siphiwe Thafa, de-nied these reports and said if the king wasintending to dismiss his chiefs he would firstcall a meeting.

He said the only thing the King did, wasto write three letters to Ndzambule askinghim to come to Bumbane Great Place and ex-plain why he was no longer attending meet-ings of the AbaThembu Royal Council as amember.

“Ndzambule has not attended about fourmeetings, with no report or apology, so thatis why the king wrote these letters to him.

“But he never turned up – even after thoseletters.What we heard from themedia is thatthey took a decision to quit from the royalfamily and the king never expelled them,”said Thafa who refused to comment on theissue of Eye of theChild,which allegedly trig-gered the whole matter.

A man (22) was arrested for rape at MtPhakathi Coffee Bay near Mqanduli after heallegedly raped girl (19) in the area on Octo-ber 22.

It is alleged that the victimwas on her wayto her boyfriend when the suspect raped herat his home.The suspect was arrested and is expected to

appear before the Kwaaiman periodical courtsoon facing a rape charge.

Ngqwarha for dealing in dagga weighing1.176kg with a street value of R2 000.The suspect was arrested when the police

were doing their normal duties. She will ap-pear in theMqanduliMagistrates’ Court soon,charged with dealing in dagga.

. A man (27) was sentenced to 5 years and7 months in prison for house breaking andtheft.This follows a burglary at the FET College

in Coffee Bay on September 2. Clothes and gro-ceries were taken.He appeared before the Kwaaiman periodi-

cal court on October 21 and was found guiltyas charged.

AMAN from Beaufort West, who is resid-ing in Cape Town, is blaming MthathaCentral Police Station Officers for failingto givehim information about hismissingfirearm.

Simphiwe Ntlabathi claims that hisfirearm has been kept by this Police Sta-tion since 2005. He said that the firearmhad belonged to his uncle (Velile Ngxawe-ni)whopassedaway.Ntlabathi thenalleg-edly asked Ngxaweni’s wife to give himthe firearm, since she said she did notwant it.“My aunt refused to give it to me, be-

cause I did not have a firearm licence atthe time. She then took it to Mthatha Cen-tral Police Station,” said Ntlabathi.He said he got his licence in 2011 after

his aunt had also passed away. When hewent to the police station to collect thefirearm, he was asked for a SAP 13 NU,which he brought to the police station.That was when he was told that his fire-arm had been taken by the National TaskForce to Pretoria.“But the problemwas that there was no

name, persal number and rank of the po-liceman or woman who took the firearmwhich was registered in the occurrencebook. That iswhy I amsaying this firearmis missing.”Ntlabathi said he had tried several

times to findhelp.Hehad evenphoned theprovincial office to ask for help. They toldhim that according to their records thefirearm was registered in his name.He was advised to open a case, but he

said the case was not being investigated.He said hewasworried about his firearm,because if something happened, he couldbe in trouble because it is registered inhisname.“I can end up in jail because of it. I am

appealing to anyone who can advise meon which steps to take now to please as-

sist. I had tried all the offices which Ithought would have been able to help.”Police Spokesperson for the Mthatha

Cluster, Warrant Officer Denoe Koena,saidNtlabathimust goand report themat-ter to the branch commander if he feelsthat his case is not being investigatedproperly.“He followed the right path by getting

They demanded that the mother of the in-fant be released from prison so that she cango and fetch the missing limbs as they willnever allow the baby to be buried in their ar-

ea.The gruesome discovery of the corpse two

weeks ago, on October 7, caused angeramongst community members, particularlythe young people.They demanded that the family of the 18-

year-oldmother, accused of killing the infant,leave the area. The baby was believed to beone-day old when it was found in a secludedarea in the village.After the discovery, elderly women in the

locality commenced a massive hunt for the

mother of the baby. All the women in the lo-cality were called to ameeting and eachwom-an was milked and and their private parts in-spected.During that inspection an 18-year-old wom-

an was allegedly found to have recently givenbirth. When she was questioned about thewhereabouts of her child she was unable togive a proper explanation. Community mem-bershandedher over to the police and shewasarrested.Police spokesperson CaptainMduduzi God-

lwana confirmed that community membersrefused that the baby be buried in their area.He said the family was ordered to leave the

area but the chief of the area rescued themby keeping them at his place.He said the police tried several times to in-

tervene by holdingmeetingswith communitymembers from the area but their efforts werein vain. A meeting on Tuesday last week wasalso fruitless as members of the communitywere still saying they don’t want the baby toburied in their area.

A MAN who is herding Mandela’s cat-tle at Qunu farm near Mthatha deniedthat the cattle who died during recentmonths were neglected.

MgcineniWisemanQingana said thecattle were not neglected because heand fellow herdsmen were looking af-ter them and they also have a supervi-sor to oversee the whole process on thefarms in Qunu and Ncise. Both farmsbelong to the late statesman, NelsonMandela.The man, who has been working on

Mandela’s farmsince 2000, saidheusedto share jokes with Tata Mandela

whilst they were on the farm, inspect-ing his livestock with him.He described him as somebody who

loved livestockwholeheartedly.Qinga-na’s utterances follow reports that Nel-son Mandela’s cattle at Qunu farm aredying from neglect.He revealed that the only thing that

hampers them was the late delivery ofthe feed to the farm. Delivery some-times takesmonths. Due to grass beingdry in winter, they depended on lu-cerne for feed.He said the lucerne supply ran out

some months ago and was only deliv-ered on Tuesday, October 21. “About200 bales were delivered. If it was doneaccording tomywishes, lucernewould

always be available at the farm be-cause there is no grass and the size ofthe farm is not enough for somany cat-tle.”Qingana confirmed that 10 cattle

died this year and he believed that itwas because of hunger and draught. Hesaid he and the other herd boy reportedeverything to the supervisor who is al-ways at the farm.He said the supervisor reports to the

manager, namedMimi,who is based inGauteng and Mimi reports to Makazi-we the eldest daughter of Mandela.The Qunu farm now has 1 790 cattle

plus many calves. Attempts to get holdof the supervisor, called Siya, as wellas Makaziwe, were fruitless.

The groupof youngmenwas establishedin 2009 when they met in Mbizana SeniorSecondary School.

“We are from different places and be-lieve in different things, but through mu-sicwe came together and sang,” said Tape-lo Ntshothovu who is a group member.The group reported that their music is forall age groups as they believe in makingpeople happy, not with jokes but music.They confidently said that they were will-ing to go big and be seen by the wholeworld but it is hard for them to do so sincethey don’t have sponsors and a manager.

“We normally get people who say theywant tomanage our group but they end upusing us and leave us without anything,”Said Ntshothovu.

He said they heard their song playing onUkhozi FM Afternoon Drive show lastyear and they got a call asking them to goto the station but because of financialproblems they could not and they believethat if they could get a sponsor they couldmake Mbizana proud.

“We have passion and we are willing tomotivate the youth through music, makethe world a better place and create a socie-ty that is free of substance abuse anddrugs. But without support we won’t beable to spread our wings,” said Ntshotho-vu.

The OR Tambo District Municipality con-sists of five local municipalities, namely theMhlontlo, Port St Johns, Nyandeni, KingSabatha Dalindyebo and Ingquza Local Mu-nicipalities.In his recent media briefing, Nkompela

stressed that they wanted to create playerswho are hungry for success by being in-volved inMayoral tournaments in each localmunicipality and subsequently venture intodistrict leagues.“We now want to venture on bigger chal-

lenges in the district-mayoral tournaments.Teams will compete in their respective mu-nicipalities in a mayoral championship andsubsequently compete in the OT Tambo Dis-trict’s championship.

“We’ve had mayoral tournaments whichusually see a small number of teams partici-pating, but nowwewant themayoral tourna-ments to be part of a series andnot just a one-day event. The bigger the tournament, themore dedication will be shown by the play-ers and some may even have a chance of be-ing spotted by the PSL teams to play profes-sionally,” said Nkompela.He said after all the stadiums had been
