RING JOINT GASKETS
Ring Joint Gaskets are designed to seal by "initial line contact" or wedging action between
the mating flange and the gasket. By applying pressure on the seal interface through bolt
force, the softer metal of the gasket flows into the micro-fine structure of the harder flange
material, creating a very tight and efficient seal.
Scorpio Precisions Ring Joint gaskets are manufactured in accordance with API-6A and
ASME B16.20 specifications and come in four basic profile

R - SERIES GASKETS
Style R ring joint gaskets are manufactured in accordance with both API 6A and ASME
B16.20 size/ratings. The R-Type ring gasket can be ordered to two different profiles, oval or
octagonal in cross-sections. Both types have identical pitch diameter as the flange groove
they correspond to. These gaskets are used in pressures up to 5,000 PSI. The octagonal type
has a higher sealing coefficient than the oval, therefore being the better gasket of the two. The
oval type is the only gasket that will fit a bottom radius groove. Flanges with flat bottom v-
grooves will accept either style. Gaskets that have been torqued initiating a metal-to-metal
seal should be discarded and not reused. These Gaskets are used in Pressures up to 5,000 PSI
in API 6A Flanges, And up to 2,500 PSI in ASME/ANSI B16.5 Flanges.

RX - SERIES GASKETS
Style RX ring joint gaskets are a pressure-energized adaptation of the standard Style R
gasket. The RX is designed to fit the same groove design as a standard Style R, making the
joints interchangeable. The modified design uses a pressure-energized effect that improves
the efficiency of the seal as the internal pressure of the system increases.RX gaskets are
designed for pressures up to 5,000 PSI. RX type gaskets perform excellent in 6B flanged
blowout preventer stacks, which requires the additional mass of the RX gasket to support the
higher pressures with higher vibrations and heavier weights of these units. Gaskets that have
been torqued initiating a metal-to-metal seal should be discarded and not reused.

BX - SERIES GASKETS
Style BX ring joint pressure energized gaskets are manufactured in accordance with API 6A and
are designed for use on pressurized systems up to 20,000 PSI. When correctly fitted, the style BX
gasket allows virtual surface-to-surface contact of the flange faces, which means that the gasket is
fully trapped on both the inner and outer diameters. All BX gaskets incorporate a pressure
balance hole to ensure equalization of pressure that may be trapped in the grooves. Although
similar in style to the octagonal gaskets, the BX Series can only be used with 6BX flanges
and 16BX hubs. Pitch diameters on BX gaskets are slightly larger than the pitch diameter of
the flange. This forces the gasket to initially seal on its outside angles and secondly seal with
its inside angles as the flange is bolted down to respective torque settings. Gaskets that have
been torqued initiating a metal-to-metal seal should be discarded and not reused.

SUBSEA SERIES GASKETS
The American Petroleum has standardized the underwater utilization of ring
gaskets with the SRX and the SBX series rings. There is no dimensional
difference between the standard RX and SRX or the BX and SBX. They will
fit into their appropriate flange designated numbers. The "S" prefix identifies
a gasket as having intersecting vent holes, allowing a pressure less metal-to-
metal initial contact between the gasket and flange groove, while made up
underwater. For pressure class ratings on these gaskets refer back to their non
"S" type standard gasket classification chart for the RX-Series and BX-Series.
Gaskets that have been torqued initiating a metal-to-metal seal should
be discarded and not reused.
COMBINATION RTJ GASKETS
Combination RTJ Gaskets are a combination of two different API Ring
Joint Gaskets, and are used to connect flanges with the same bolt circle
dimensions and number of bolt holes.
RUBBER COATED GASKETS
Rubber Coated Gaskets start with a precision machined Low
Carbon Steel (LCS) Gasket. We then add Rubber that is molded to
the Gasket in an electrically induced 300 ton press.
PTFE COATED GASKETS
Most standard sizes of RTJ Ring Type Joints can be supplied with PTFE Coating.
A PTFE Coating is used to eliminate gasket or flange erosion and is predominately
used in aggressive media applications.
PTFE Coating is typically used on R - Octagonal or R - Oval style RTJ's - Ring
Joint Gaskets.
They are available in a range of materials including 316 Stainless Steel, Soft Iron,
Carbon Steel, Low Mild Steel, F5 and Super Duplex.
The PTFE coating can be in various colors e.g. blue or green for ease of
identification on site for installation.
SPLIT GASKETS
Split Gaskets are used in applications where an API Flange is mated up to ANSI Flange,
Where typically a Low pressure Spiral Wound Gasket would be used
VALVE AND WELLHEAD GASKETS
Valve, Wellhead and Subsea Gaskets can be manufactured in any material and coating
combination. We can reverse engineer used gaskets to ensure obsolete or otherwise
unidentified connections have a proper se
BONNETT GASKETS
Typical bonnet seal ring is applicable to the flange faces formed by pair of small grooves.
Most of the small grooves have two angle faces and one flat bottom. Most of the gaskets have
an octagonal cross section, but in some gaskets the small grooves are oval-shaped. The gasket
can be fitted into the smasufficient size so that the ll groove, but the most are of two mating
flange faces are separated. If the flanges do not coincide, the pipeline will be leaked during
the feeding. Valve bonnet seal ring must be of full load and cannot touch the flange face,
which shall cause the front gasket deformation. In addition, if the valve bonnet seal ring is not
well aligned, it will occur that one face is sealed and the other face is leaked during the
feeding.Because the levels of both internal and external should be accordance with the design
requirements on both sides at the same time, prior art gaskets use face to face contact and
cannot provide the effective seal.
Features
Valve bonnet seal ring is used in 6B flanges with standard flanged connections, it has
the face seal with good seal performance, but it should have high accuracy.
Valve bonnet seal ring can be reused in the field in the case of the appearance with no
damage.
The hardness of valve bonnet seal ring must be15~20HBlower than the mating flange
face hardness.
The seal faces of valve bonnet seal ring, including the bevel faces, shouldn’t have
the scratches, knock marks, cracks and defects. Its surface roughness should not be larger
than Ra1.
IX SEALING RINGS
IX Seal Rings are designed and used where NORSOK
CFC(Compact Flange Connections) are in use.The rings come in
three different kinds of steel and are coated with PTFE in varying
colors in order to distinguish between them
(Standard identification NORSOK) The designed or materials
shall be selected, so that main sealing ares can not be subject to
corrosion.
Typical Seal Ring Materials:
Flange Material Service Temperature Ring Material Color
Carbon Steel - Carbon Steel CS360LT or Low Alloy Steels (AISI 4140)
Stainless Steel - 22Cr Duplex
Stainless Steel - 17.4PH
Stainless Steel - Nickel Alloys such as Inconel 625
Typical minimum yield stress and ultimate stress of the seal ring material shall at maximum
design temperature be 300MPa and 360MPa, respectively, in order to allow for reasonably
elastic spring-back. Lower strength may be used, but is not recommended.
The user is responsible for selecting a seal ring material which is suitable for the service
medium and the design temperature conditions. Seal ring materials are commonly chosen to
be compatible with the flange material
How IX Ring Seal Works
IX Seal Ring axial forces are exerted on the taper of the metal seal ring and translated into a
radial sealing force. Furthermore with increased pre-load, the bevel is closed and face to face
contact is achieved at the outer wedge while most of the bolt pre-load is transferred as
compressive forces between the flange faces at the heel. There are two independent seals. The
first seal is created by application of seal seating stress at the flange heel. The flange also
remains in contact along it`s outer circumference at the flange faces for all allowable load
levels. The main seal is the IX Seal Ring. The seal ring force is provided by the elastic stored
energy in the stressed seal ring. Any hell leakage will give internal pressure acting on the seal
ring inside intensifying the sealing action. The design aims at preventing exposure to oxygen
and other corrosive agents. Thus, this prevents corrosion of the flange faces, the stressed
length of the bolts and the seal ring

LENS RING
Lens Rings have a spherical surface and are used on flanges with conical faces. The gasket
material should be softer than the flange material, ensuring that the applied compressive load
leads to the elastic or plastic deformation of the gasket and not the flange sealing face. By
applying higher loads on the gasket the contact area between the gasket and the flange
increases. This prevents the gasket from being overstressed. As with all metallic joint’s, the
re- use of Lens Rings is not recommended.
Features
Lens ring is applicable for the pipe seal that the pressure isn’t lower than 10Mpa
Due to contact with flange cone face, it is easy to have the pressure mark & the interchangeability of
part is poor.
Lens ring is also pressure energized, as well as the double-cone gasket.
The hardness of the lens ring must be 15-20 HB lower than the mating flange face hardness
Application
The gaskets are primarily used in oil, gas & petrochemical, offshore industries. They are also
commonly used on valves, pipe line network & vessel joints. Also lens ring used to seal flanged
connection subject to high pressure & temperature.

High Seal Integrity
Available in a variety of materials
Kammprofile Gaskets offered by us are available in three profiles. The components can be
produced from virtually any machinable material and can incorporate a variety of sealing
faces selected based on media and temperature compatibility.
Kammprofile Style L
Kammprofile Style L profiled gaskets are
commonly used for applications involving
gaseous materials and high temperature
differences in the inner and outer rings.
Kammprofile Style TG
Kammprofile Style TG profiled gaskets
are most often used with tongue and
groove and male and female flanges.
Kammprofile Style F
Kammprofile Style F profiled gaskets are
made for flat or raised face flanges and
designed with built in centering rings.
KAMMPROFILE GASKETS
Kammprofile Gaskets are manufactured utilizing a precision
machined serrated insert sealing element with V-like cut grooves
designed to entrap a sealing compound to create many individual
seals across the face of a flange. The sealing element can be used
stand alone in the case of a tongue and grove application or can
incorporate a centering ring, either fixed or loose depending on the
specific application.
SPIRAL WOUND GASKETS
Spiral Wound Gaskets are made of a preformed thin metallic strip combined
with a soft sealing composite material, wound together under pressure to
energize the sealing element to act like a spring when compressed between two
flange faces. The sealing element can be used stand-alone or in conjunction
with inner and/or outer rings depending on the application. Spiral wounds are
available in a full range of styles and materials and are manufactured in
accordance with ASME B16.20 for use in all industry Flanges, including
ASME/ANSI B16.5, ASME B 16.47, Series A & B.
Style S - Sealing Element
Designed for tongue and grove applications, the style S gasket is a
stand-alone sealing element where the ID is reinforced with several
layers of metal winding, filler material is then introduce to offer
greater sealing ability and the gasket is finished with several more
layers of
Style SI – Sealing Element with Inner Ring
The SI configuration is the same as the S except that a solid
inner ring is utilized to prevent over compression. This design is
also helpful in turbulent applications which are prone to cause
erosion of the flange faces.
Style CS - Centering Ring with Sealing Element
The CS gasket utilizes an external ring where the ID is
grooved to insert a sealing element. The external ring or
centering ring is designed to properly guide the gasket on a
bolted flange accurately centering gasket. The Centering also
provides additional radial strength to prevent gasket blowout
and acts as a compression limiter.
Style CSI - Centering Ring with Sealing Element and Inner Ring
The CSI gaskets is best suited where high pressure and temperature is a factor or in applications where
corrosive or toxic media maybe present. Like the CS profile, the CSI gasket includes an inner ring which has
proven to be very helpful to eliminate inward buckling of the sealing element.
ASME B16.20 requires the use of CSI gaskets when PTFE is used as the filler in all ANSI
B16.5 applications as well as:
Pressure Class 900, nominal pipe sizes 24” and larger
Pressure Class 1500, nominal pipe sizes 12” and larger
Pressure Class 2500, nominal pipe sizes 4” and larger
Flange Insulation Kits
Corrosion has long been nature’s most destructive element, but with Scorpio’s
flange insulation products this costly profit robbing item can all but be eliminated. Scorpio
engineered insulation products, of consistent high quality, can be used to control and confine
electrolytic corrosion in almost every piping system. Scorpio insulation products are
manufactured from materials with superior high dielectric strength, low water absorption
and chemical stability to maintain the high quality required in refinery and chemical plant
applications. Hydrocarbon exposure, weathering and salt water are no problem for Scorpio
insulating materials. Scorpio quality assurance and high production rate allow our customers
to economically protect and lengthen the service life of equipment with little or no down
time due to electrolysis.
Scorpio manufactures a full line of standard flange insulation sets including Type F (Ring)
gaskets, Type E (Full Face) gaskets and Type D (API Ring Joint) gaskets.
Scorpio Type F and E gaskets are manufactured from 1/8" thick fabric based phenolic (Nema
Grade CE) sheet with either no coating (plain faced) or a Nitrile rubber coating on both faces.
Type F & E gaskets are also available in Compressed Non- Asbestos with superior electrical
insulation qualities.
Insulation Kits
Flange insulating sets are packaged for one flanged joint, including gasket, sleeves and washers.
Each flange set is securely packaged in a cardboard box, clearly labelled as to size, ASA Rating,
style and material. Either polyethylene or phenolic sleeves are available with these insulating sets.
Polyethylene sleeves are standard and will be furnished unless otherwise specified.
Type D (API Ring Joint) - gaskets are insulating ring joint gaskets made to fit the ring groove of Ring Type Joint
flanges. The Type D central gasket is made of medium weave fabric-reinforced phenolic, manufactured
to ASA (ANSI) gasket dimensions. Properties are similar to those of phenolic flat central gaskets and are
available in the basic octagonal shapes. Oval shapes can be ordered by special request. When installing
Type D gaskets, it is also recommended that tape be wrapped around the outside of the flange to prevent
foreign material from lodging between the exposed portions and causing "shorting out" of the flanges.
Alignment pins should be used whenever possible to assure proper alignment of flanges when installing all
flange insulation sets. Pins should be a minimum of 3/32" (2.38mm) larger than the bolt size.
Type E (Full Face) - gaskets are designed for full protection of flanges and have the same outside diameter as the
flange. Each gasket has precision-located bolt holes. Upon installation, it is recommended that tape be
wrapped around the outside of the flange to prevent foreign material from lodging between the exposed
portions and causing "shorting out" of the flanges. All Type E gaskets are easily centered with the flange
inside diameter. Gaskets with slightly larger outside diameters are available on request.
Type F (Ring) - gaskets are designed to fit the raised face portion of flanges. The outside diameter of the gasket is
slightly smaller than the inside diameter of the bolt hole circle. The outside diameter is designed for
alignment by the insulating sleeves. The central gaskets are available in the same materials as Type E.
Upon installation, it is recommended that tape be wrapped around the outside of the flange to prevent
foreign material from lodging between the exposed portions and causing "shorting out" of the flanges.

BLIND FLANGES
A blind flange is a solid flange as shown below. The purpose of
these is to block off a section of pipe or a nozzle on a vessel that
is not used. (A nozzle is typically a pipe coming out of a vessel
and is usually flanged so it can be connected to valves or piping).
Many times a nozzle will be blanked off with a blind flange for
pressure tests in a plant, or simply because the customer does not need
all the nozzles that were supplied on the tank. The best practice is to
use a standard gasket for these blinds. Blind flanges, just like standard
pipe flanges, can be raised face (RF) or flat faced (FF). If the flange is
RF we would recommend a standard ring gasket that is appropriate for
the service and/or test. If it is FF we would TYPICALLY use a full
face gasket, because the most common reason the flange is FF is that it
is not designed to handle the bending forces that result when using a
ring gasket or a RF flange against the FF flange. Again, we treat a
blind flange just like any other pipe flange
We provide blind pipe flanges with a raised face, RTJ face, or flat face, as per your
needs. We manufactures blind flanges in all steel material grades, such as stainless
steel blind flanges, carbon blind pipe flanges, and alloy blind flanges. We deliver blind
flanges to all leading industries like pipe engineering businesses, public services and
governments, waterworks, shipbuilding, power generation, pharmaceutical plants, oil
refineries, and petrochemical sector.
SPRING ENERGIZED SEALS
Spring energized PTFE seals perform reliably in a variety of applications where conventional
elastomeric seals fail due to chemical attack, extreme heat or cold, friction, extrusion or
compression set.
PTFE seals have three basic design elements:
A pressure-actuated U-shaped jacket
A metal spring loading device
High performance polymeric seal materials
A spring Energized seal is a circumferential band of polymer material energized by a metal
spring energizer. The cross section of the Spring Energized seal configuration can be a
variety of symmetrical or asymmetrical shapes and these can be manufactured in different
sizes.
Spring Energized seals are normally comprised of a machined polymer material body (or
jacket), containing a spring energizer. The polymer most commonly used in PTFE, as this
provides excellent characteristics in terms of high and low temperature capability, low
friction, long life, and wide chemical resistance. Other materials can be used for the seal
jacket according to the application requirements.
The three main types of springs
1. Cantilever/V spring (Good dynamic performance, medium to high deflection, medium spring
force)
2. Helical spring (Good static performance, high spring force, low deflection)
3. Wire/Coil Spring (Good dynamic performance, high deflection, low/medium spring force and
easier for installation purposes).
