A Brief History of ISO
The organization which today is known as ISO began in 1926 as theInternational Federation of the National Standardizing Associations(ISA). This organization focused heavily on mechanical engineering. Itwas disbanded in 1942 during the second World War but was re-organized under the current name, ISO, in 1946.
The name, "ISO" is not an acronym but was derived from the Greekword "isos" meaning "equal".
The bulk of the work of ISO is done by the 2700 technical committees, subcommittees and working groups. Each committee andsubcommittee is headed by a Secretariat from one of the memberorganizations. The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) is the
United States representative to ISO. The ANSI ASC Z-1/ASQ StandardsGroup coordinates the United States representation in the ISOTechnical Committees 176 and 207 which are concerned with the ISO9000 and ISO 14000 standards respectively.

Choosing a certification body
When choosing a certification body it is a good idea to:
Evaluate several certification bodies
Bear in mind that the cheapest could be more costly in the long run if its auditing is
below standard.
Ask whether the certification body implements ISO/IEC 17021:2011, Conformity
assessment Requirements for bodies providing audit and certification management
systems
Ask whether the body is accredited.. Accredited certification bodies can be
identified by contacting the national accreditation body in your country.

ISO does not perform certification
ISO develops International Standards,
including anagement system standards.
It is not involved in the certification to
any of the standards it develops.
Certification is performed by external
certification bodies, which are largely
private.
Some of them are Det Norske Veritas ,
Bureau Veritas Certification (India) Pvt.Ltd.,BSI India Pvt , QMS Certification

ISO 4217-Currency codes
ISO 4217 is the International Standard for currency codes. The most recent edition is ISO
4217:2008.
The purpose of ISO 4217:2008 is to establish internationally recognized codes for the
representation of currencies.
Currencies can be represented in the code in two ways:
Alphabetic code
The alphabetic code is based on another ISO standard, ISO 3166, which lists the codes
for country names. The first two letters of the ISO 4217 three-letter code are the same as
the code for the country name, and where possible the third letter corresponds to the first
letter of the currency name.

For example:
The Indian rupee is represented as-IN from India and R from Rupee :INR
The US dollar is represented as USD - the US coming from the ISO 3166 country
code and the D for dollar.
Three-digit numeric code:
The three-digit numeric code is useful when currency codes need to be understood
in countries that do not use Latin scripts and for computerized systems. Where
possible the 3 digit numeric code is the same as the numeric country code.

For government:
Expert opinion
Opening up world trade
ISO standards draw on international expertise and experience and are therefore a vital
resource for governments when developing regulations.
For Society:
ISO has over 19 500 standards touching almost all aspects of daily life.
When products and services conform to International Standards consumers can have
confidence that they are safe, reliable and of good quality. For example, ISO's standards on
road safety, and secure medical packaging are just a selection of those that help make the
world a safer place.
International Standards on air, water and soil quality, on emissions of gases and radiation
and environmental aspects of products contribute to efforts to preserve the environment and
the health of citizens.
