What is “Island Mode” Operation?
• Two types of operation modes for on-site generator sets in terms of utility grid connection– Parallel With Utility
Applications like Base Load, Peak Shaving & Peak Sharing– Non-Parallel With Utility
Applications of any stand-alone power generation system. The unit(s) can be used in place of the utility grid, or operated when the utility grid is down, such as a standby unit(s).
• Island Mode Operation as defined by Caterpillar is any Gas Generator Set operation that is not paralleled to a public utility. (Refer to Product Update: G3500C Island Mode Transient Performance LEXE7567-02)

• The Island Mode feature tackles the major barriers for Distributed Generation (DG) in stand alone applications where: – no connection with a utility grid – the grid does not provide quality power
• Improved transient capability leading to more low emission gas generator sets being used in standby power applications.
• More options for customers to adopt clean energy to their electric power solutions.
