Objectives

The primary academic objective of the Al-Iman PreSchool is to introduce and instill the

main teachings of Islam into our students by the time they are ready to enter regular public

school school. We use a very structured approach to teach Islam as a religion, and not as a

set of cultural practices.

The aim of the Islamic Studies course is to build a Muslim Identiyt in students based on

Quran and the teachings of the Prophet Mohammed (PBUH). The Islamic Studies covers

three areas of the study:

1. Beliefs and Worship

Students learn about the six articles of faith, five pillars of islam, Islamic rights and obligations and how they are fulfilled.

2. Islamic History

Students learn stories of the prophets and other stories mentioned in Quran. Students study in detail the life of Prophet Mohammed (PBUH). Students also learn about different companions of prophet Mohammed (PBUH).

3. Manners and Morals

Students learn about the Islamic code of morals, manners and ethics. For instance, they are guided towards the right actions to be taken in the following cases: respect for parents, elders, teachers, kindness, cleanliness, eating habits, Islamic greetings, dressing code, manners in the mosque, good relations with people of other religions, forbidden food and drinks, and many others. Students are also instructed on wrong actions to be avoided, for example, backbiting, boasting, jealousy and miserliness. Reading and studying stories are an important component of this part of Islamic studies.

4. Duas (supplications) are also part of the curriculum: students memorize daily duas and recite them at the appropriate times.

A student who has attended 3 years of school is expected to have learned the following

subjects and topics. a) Recitation of Quran:

The objective of the school is to facilitate students in the reading of the Quran (not learning Arabic language). This however requires very active follow-up by parents at home. Children in KG are expected to be able to read verses from Quran with slight help from parents or independently.

b) Memorization:

I. Surahs - Memorize 20 – 30 Surahs (JuzAmma) II. Dua’s: Memorize dua’s related to Salaat and everyday affairs.

c) Qura’nic Studies:

Basic Qura’nic Teachings - Study about Quran (Uloom-ul Quran), Commentary on

selected Surahs from the Qura’n

Character Education:

Each month, students are exposed to a different value that is used as a springboard for discussion during assemblies and in classroom settings.

Teachers use the values of the month as a basis of spiritual and social awareness, while Religious Studies instructors use stories of the Prophets to exemplify those values. The spotlight is shown on the following ten values:

Responsibility - August

Honesty - September

Thankfulness - October

Self-Restraint and Control - November

Fairness and Justice - December

Commitment - January

Generosity – February

Respect - March

Citizenship – April

Kindness and Care – May

Students, who exemplify these values through their behavior or deeds, are recognized as recipients of the “Good Character Award” during next month assemblies and join the School Staff each month for lunch as part of the "Lunch Bunch".

Selected Themes for School Year

Education is a tollbooth on the road to success! A School Theme is an "idea in motion." School themes will be used to improve learning and create classroom excitement. We believe that every child deserves a chance to Excel! We selected themes related to an educational or character building concept. The main purpose of a theme is to promote school spirit... and one of the best ways to do this... is to UNIFY both staff and students. A good school spirit idea is all about being on the same team, and working toward a common goal. There's something else that lies at the very heart of every great school spirit idea...And it's good ol' fashion FUN! School spirit themes inspire and contribute to a very positive learning environment. We have selected the following themes that will be introduced and will be explored as we proceed.
