Branches of Islam

Separate branches emerged over who should lead the faith after the Prophet’s death

1.Shi’ia (Shi’ite) -- Muslim leadership should stay in Muhammad’s family (10% of Muslims)

2.Sunni -- most qualified should be selected to lead (90% of Muslims)
