Alberga una biodiversidad rica, con muchas especies endémicas entre las que destacan plantas vasculares, moluscos, insectos, aves, reptiles y murciélagos. Contiene una amplia variedad de comunidades y hábitats de relevancia internacio- nal como bosques primarios tropicales. Located in the Gulf of Guinea, the biosphere reserve includes the entire sur- face of the Island of Principe and several islets, together with an extensive ma- rine area. It houses a rich biodiversity, with many endemic species among vas- cular plants, molluscs, insects, birds, reptiles and bats. It contains a wide range of communities and habitats of international importance as tropical primary forests. The Management Unit is responsible for the daily management and coordination. There are two consultative units: 1; the Participatory Council, gathering all lo- cal relevant stakeholders and sectors and 2; the scientific Council gathering in- dividuals, international and national entities that provide technical and scientif- ic support. Príncipe Island Biosphere Reserve is a member of several thematic and region- al networks such as REDBIOS, AfriMAB (currently member of the Bureau) and Sustainable International Small Islands. A Plan of Action and System of Indicators are being developed. There is an Observatory of indicators in preparation under the SmartBiosphere Initiative. La Unidad de Gestión es responsable de la gestión y coordinación diaria. Existen dos entes consultivos: 1: el consejo participativo, que recoge todos los participantes y sectores relevantes locales, y 2: el consejo científico, que eng- loba a particulares y a entidades nacionales e internacionales que aportan apo- yo técnico y científico. La Reserva de Biosfera de Isla de Príncipe es miembro de diversas redes te- máticas y regionales como REDBIOS, AfriMAB (actualmente miembro de la Agencia) y Pequeñas Islas Internacionales Sostenibles. Se está desarrollando un plan de acción y un sistema de indicadores. Existe un observatorio de indicadores en fase de preparación bajo la Iniciativa SmartBiosphere.
