Physician Associate Ambassadors
North West PAAs
The North West of England has seen the biggest trajectory of physician associates in training. Two hundred and
ninety nine physician associates have graduated from NW universities in the last two years with a further one
hundred and sixty two pending graduation in January 2020. Given the scale and pace by which physician
associates have entered the North West healthcare system, in addition to the contractual changes in NHS service
commissioning and provision, there is a considerable need for the physician associate profession to be
'championed'. The North West community of physician associates need a sense of belonging, autonomy and
influence, a united politically impactful voice, and competence through upskilling and confidence to allow them to
take a suitable position in the forward NHS. This ambassador programme represents a unique opportunity for a
'team' of physician associates for work as 'champions' creating that community of practice.
