Code of ConductTake an active part in your child's

skating experience.

We hope yourLearn To Skate

experience is both Fun &

Rewarding!

The following list is a guide to help parents en-courage their skater to have a fun, rewarding, and exciting skating experience.

Code of Conduct• Have your skater arrive on time. Be sure bath-

room runs have been completed. Please have your skater(s) finish all food and dis-pose of gum prior to entering the ice surface.

• Check in each skater upon entering the arena. • Be supportive. Focus on effort, participation,

fun and skill building with your skater.• Show enthusiasm, interest and support for

your skater and other skaters.• Comparisons to other children can be detri-

mental to your skater. Keep your comments positive and reassuring to your own skater.

• Practice good sportsmanship at all times.• Remain a parent and allow the Instructors to

coach.• Take an active part in your child’s skating ex-

perience.• Parents of Preskaters during the first two les-

sons, view the lesson from the lobby to help the instructor gain your child's trust and at-tention. Please watch the class and the in-structor will signal if you are needed.

• Observation of your skater while in class is wel-

come. Please do so from the upstairs stands or lobby area. Standing in the doorways is prohibited.

• Parents need to remain on the premises at all times during all LTS classes.

• Parents are not allowed to step on the ice.• Questions and concerns should be directed to

the LTS Director. Please do not interrupt the LTS Class Instructor while teaching.

A positive experience is our goal for all skaters and families who participate in our LTS program.

We appreciate your cooperation in abiding in our Parent Code of Conduct.

It is very important for skaters to practi ce what

they have been taught in class. LTS parti cipants

have a practi ce ti me scheduled free of charge on

the day of their lesson.

Monday Classes practi ce ti me

3:45 - 5:15 PM (during public session)

Wednesday Classes practi ce ti me

6:30 - 8:15 PM (during public session)

Thursday Classes practi ce ti me

10:30 AM - 12:00 PM (during public session)

Saturday Classes practi ce ti mes

10:30 - 10:45 AM (during lessons - between levels)

11:45 AM - 1:45 PM (during public session)

The ribbon/badge test requirements are derived

from the weSKATE Recreati onal Ice Skati ng Pro-

gram of the Ice Skati ng Insti tute. Evaluati ons are

given on the last day of classes generally the 7 or

8th week of lessons to provide the skater with an

acknowledgement of their achievements in skat-

ing. Skaters will be given an evaluati on form along

with a ribbon or badge (as applicable) for the ac-

complishments as they pass their tests. This eval-

uati on form will also advise the skater of their next

class level of instructi on. The instructor will give

the evaluati on form to the skater. There will be

a table located in the lobby where the skater will

bring this form and receive their ribbon or badge.

Registrati on for the next series of lessons will be

available at that ti me.

If the skater knows they're going to miss this eval-

uati on, have them noti fy the instructor the week

prior and the skill achievement test will be given

during that class lesson.

Keep in mind that a child or adults rate of progress

will vary according to his or her age, motor skill de-

velopment, equipment, and self-moti vati on. They

will progress at their own pace under the guidance

of the Instructors and will enjoy their learning ex-

perience.

The Lakewood Winter Club (LWC) was established in 1939 and its principal purpose is to foster the sport of fi gure skat-ing in our community. Sprinker Recreati on Center is the home of the LWC. The LWC is a mem-ber of US Figure Skati ng which is the Nati onal Governing Body for Figure Skati ng in the United

States. It is the responsibility of this organizati on to provide a test and qualifying competi ti on structure that will select skaters to represent the United States in Internati onal, World and Olympic Competi ti on.

Private Lessons Some students fi nd that individual instructi on is the best to way to fi ne tune their skati ng skills. You can choose to use private lessons to supplement your LTS Lesson. Private Figure Skati ng instructi on is available by contacti ng our Figure Skati ng Director, Kathy Wainhouse, at 253-798-4042. If there is a parti cular instructor that you prefer, please feel free to approach them or pick up a Private Lesson Request Form from the front desk.

All of our Instructors are Professional Members of the Ice Skati ng Insti tute (ISI), Professionals Skater Associa-ti on (PSA) and US Figure Skati ng.

Private lesson fees are paid directly to the instructor and do not include ice ti me costs. Ice ti me is paid directly to Sprinker Recreati on center prior to the start of the lesson.

Competitions, Holiday Recital& Camp ShowtimeSprinker Recreati on Center hosts two ISI Competi ti ons every year. An In House Competi ti on in the fall, which in-volves only skaters from our LTS program and an Open Competi ti on in the spring, which involves skaters from other LTS programs throughout Washington and Oregon. We include several types of events to be sure everyone has a great ti me. Skaters perform with or without music, some skate with props and elaborate costumes. Skaters ages: 3-100 can parti cipate. Skaters must be taking private lessons before entering any competi ti on since a coach’s guid-ance is necessary to be sure that the rules are followed. If you are unsure if competi ti ons are appropriate for your skater, please contact our skati ng director.

ISI Competi ti onsCompeti ti ons are a great way for skaters to build self confi dence since they encourage skaters of all ages and levels of ability. They are also an integral part of the fi gure skat-ing experience.

ISI Programs and events truly off er something for anyone who wants to ice skate, regardless of their age, ability or goals.

Did you know that the vast majority of skaters simply enjoy ice skating as a recreational activ-ity? In fact, there are millions of people who visit local ice rinks each year to participate in skating just for the fun of it.

Figure skating is an elegant sport that helps you to develop balance, coordination and artistic abilities while becoming more physically fi t.

Adult skaters of all skating skill levels are eligible and encouraged to compete in all local, district and national ISI competitions - including the one created just for them, ISI Adult Championships.
