Isaiah 11:1-9
Shoot from stump = dynasty as previously known is over (cf. 10:33-34)
“Jesse” = new king will be a new David
Micah 5:2 But you, Bethlehem…from you shall come forth for me one who is to rule in Israel….
Spirit
Saul and David had spirit, but Solomon and his successors….
“wisdom and understanding” = judicial capacity
“counsel and might” = military strategy“knowledge” and “fear of Yahweh” =
obedience and faithfulness toward God
Social justice = the priority
Can’t be bought Impervious to flattery (not what the king sees or
hears) Smites the “arrogant” with the rod of his mouth
(cf. Rev 19:15) From the mouth of Jesus comes a sharp sword
with which to strike down the nations His uniform = righteousness and faithfulness
Transformation of Nature accompanies his ruleWild and domestic animals at peace;

v. 14 old military expansion of Davidvv. 15-16 new Exodus from Egypt and
Assyria
